Jose Blas Ortega
Jose Blas Ortega died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 at age 86.
Mr. Ortega was born in Worland, Wyo. Sept. 2, 1918 to Blas and Marcelina Lopez Ortega. He had been a Yolo County resident for one year. He worked in the agriculture industry and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in central Europe and north Africa. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, World War II Victory Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the European, African and Middle Eastern campaign medals as well as the Good Conduct Medal. After the war he moved to Los Angeles and eventually was employed in the private security business.
Survivors include Mr. Ortega's wife, Elodia Dora Cruz Ortega, also of Woodland; his sons, Jose A. Ortega and his wife Mary of Sacramento and Lorenzo W. Ortega and his wife Donna of Corona; his grandchildren, Christopher, Joseph, Vanessa and Nicole and his great-grandchildren, Sergio, Samuel, Joseph and Matthew.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Ortega's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services: A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24 at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland with Father Juan Perez officiating. A private burial with military honors will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.
ORTEGA
Manuel A. Ortega
Manuel A. Ortega died of natural causes at his home in Knights Landing Sunday, Nov. 20, 2004 at age 66.
Manuel was born in Chihuahua, Mexico May 25, 1939. He worked as a truck driving instructor and lived most of his life in Woodland. He was a proud father, grandfather, friend and devout Christian.
He will be remembered by his wife of 42 years, Esmerlinda Ortega; his children Nancy Goyet and her husband Anthony, Maria Delia Barkwill and her husband Bruce and Eulalio Ortega and his wife Cristina; his grandchildren, Casey and Justin Barkwill; Jaimee and Kailee Goyet and Helio Manuel Ortega. He will be remembered by his brothers, Ignacio, Ernaldo and Moncerate; his sister, Marina and his extended family. Also his many friends and students who he considered to be his family as well.
Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church at 506 Cottonwood St., on Friday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. A burial will follow the service at Monument Hill Memorial Park. ORTH
Edna Alma Orth
Edna Alma Orth died in Woodland on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at age 88.
Mrs. Orth was born in Selby, South Dakota on Aug. 28, 1915 to Christoph and Margaretha (Pleinis) Nusz. She was a resident of Yolo County for 68 years. She came to California in 1935 where she worked at the Robert Stuhlmiller Ranch as a cook. On Oct. 20, 1937 she marriage Jacob P. Orth who she met on a blind date in South Dakota. She was a homemaker all of her adult life.
Mrs. Orth was a charter member of the American Lutheran Church and a member of the Knights Landing Garden Club. She volunteered her time at Travis Air Force Base Hospital writing letters and reading to the servicemen. She also made trips to the Weimar Sanitarium.
She was affectionately known as "Granny" to her grandchildren, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jake Orth; grandsons Kenneth and Steven Hawley; parents Christoph and Margaretha Nusz; sisters Esther Banek, Engelena Stuhlmiller, Elise Stadel, and Hulda Berreth; brothers Ferdinand, Albert, Theodore, and Donald Nusz.
She is survived by her daughter Marlyn Knudson and husband Dennis; grandchildren Michael Hawley of Sparks, Nevada, Brenda Stewart and husband Scott, Janene Scoonover and husband Shawn, Denise Prigge and husband Tim of Woodland; great-grandchildren Elena Hawley of Sparks, Nevada, Stephanie and Holly Stewart, Sara and Justin Scoonover; sister Lillian Giese; brother Walter Nusz of Woodland; aunt Emily Pleinis of Herried, South Dakota; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In her later years Edna enjoyed knitting and crocheting dishcloths and potholders sharing them with family, friends, and anyone she met from her doctor and nurse to the checker at the grocery store. She is also known for her homemade goodies which she shared with many.
Visitation will be held at McNary's Chapel on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the American Lutheran Church Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m., with interment to follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
The family requests memorials be directed to American Lutheran Church; or to Kidney Foundation.

Antonia Viramontes Ortiz
Antonia Viramontes Ortiz died at her Woodland home Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at age 83.
Born June 13, 1919, Mrs. Ortiz had been a resident of Woodland since 1947.
She marriage Jess A. Ortiz in June 1937 and was a homemaker. She worked during the season with Contadina cannery until 1966.
She enjoyed spending time with family members and participating with Grupo de Oracian de Espirito Santo.
Mrs. Ortiz is survived by a sister Maria Moreno of Tijuana, Mexico; brother Jesus Viramontes; daughters Connie Macias and husband Terry of Woodland, Mary Levario and husband Jose of Woodland, and Irene Ortiz of Sacramento; sons David Ortiz and wife Petra of Sacramento, Richard Ortiz of Sacramento, Jesse Ortiz, Jr. and wife Cruz of Woodland, and Danny and Tony Ortiz of Woodland.
She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
A visitation is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, at McNary's Chapel with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Woodland.
A funeral mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Holy Rosary Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cleo L. Ortiz
Cleo L. Ortiz died in Sacramento Sunday, May 25, 2003, at age 85.
Born Aug. 20, 1917, in Capulin, Colo., Mrs. Ortiz had been a Yolo County resident for 13 years. She attended Capulin schools. She was a member of St. Felicitas Church, Altar Guild, Choir, and Bible Study group of San Leandro. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jose S. Ortiz; children, Norma Jean Ross and husband Bob of El Dorado Hills, Jerry Ortiz and wife Dixie of Orem, Utah, Wayne S. Ortiz and wife Darcy of Woodland, Cindy James and husband Bob of Boise, Idaho, and Randy Ortiz and wife Judy of Woodland; grandchildren, Cheryl Ross Stefani, Robert Ross, Christy Ortiz Tousley, Jill Ortiz Murdock, Gregory Ross, Michael Ross and wife Stefani, and Ryan, Todd, Chelsea and Kayla Ortiz; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Maestas Johnson of Adair, Okla.; and brother, Joe Maestas of Diablo, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents Jose Sylvestre and Trinidad Maestas; and brothers, Adrian, Willie and Raymond Maestas.
The family requests memorials be directed to National Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan, Ste. 1700, Chicago, Ill. 60601. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Woodland, with a Mass to follow. Burial will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

Jacob Gabriel Ortiz
Jacob Gabriel Ortiz of Dixon died on Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Woodland Memorial Hospital at age 6.
Jacob was born July 7, 1999 in Woodland to Raul Ortiz and Sarah Bell. He was a Yolo County resident for four years. He was in first grade at the time of his death.
Survivors include Jacob's mother, Sarah Bell of Woodland; his father, Raul Ortiz and his wife Carmen Guzman of Dixon; his sisters, Samantha and Stephanie Ortiz of Woodland; his brother, Jose Luis Ortiz of Dixon; his stepsisters, Vanessa and Lizzette Larios; his stepbrother, Anthony Larios, all of Dixon; his grandmother, Rosalie Miller of Sacramento as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services: A vigil service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at Holy Rosary Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, with interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
ORTIZ
Tony Ortiz
Tony Ortiz died in Woodland on June 13, 2003, at age 48.
Born June 13, 1955, in Woodland, Mr. Ortiz attended Woodland schools.
Survivors include his son, Raymond Ortiz; brothers, Daniel and Jesse Ortiz Jr., all of Woodland; David and Richard Ortiz of Sacramento; sisters, Mary Levario and Connie Macias, also of Woodland; Irene Ortiz of Sacramento; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: Vigil is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at Holy Rosary Church, Woodland. Funeral mass is scheduled to be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, also at Holy Rosary Church, with a burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Woodland.
