Kathryn A. Bedeau
Kathryn A. Bedeau died peacefully in her home on Oct. 23, 2001. Born on Sept. 13, 1906, in Janesville, she was 95.
…ation native Californian, she was the second daughter of four children who were born to Harry and Lilia Fitch. Kathryn lived on the family farm until the age of 13, when she went to Portola to work and attend high school.
She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1924. She then moved to Sacramento, where she graduated from and taught at Heald Business College.
Her first job was in the law firm of Henry and Bedeau as a legal secretary. In March 1933, she marriage Grover W. Bedeau, who was later appointed judge of the Superior Court of California by then-Gov. Earl Warren.
The Bedeaus raised two children, enjoyed their home in East Sacramento and spent their summers at Lake Tahoe. She was heavily involved with many community organizations, including the Sacramento Camp Fire Girls, the Legal Aide Society, the PTA and the American Red Cross.
Following the death of her husband in 1957, she returned to work in the Sacramento County clerk's office, then later as a legal secretary and finally as a court reporter to the state of California's 3rd Appellate Court.
After her retirement, she continued to serve the community with the Legal Aide Society and the Sacramento Children's Receiving Home, and was also a long-standing member and deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Sullivan; brother, Marion Fitch; daughter, Deanna Falge Pritchard and husband William Pritchard of Davis; son, Grover W. Bedeau Jr. and his wife Kay Bedeau; granddaughter Cynthia Falge Murnane, formerly of Davis; and other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dedicated caretakers.
A memorial took place on Saturday, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sacramento, followed by inurnment at East Lawn Memorial Park
BEEBOUT
Jo Ann Beebout
Jo Ann Beebout died July 20, 2001, at UC Davis Medical Center after a long illness. Born Sept. 4, 1932, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Margaret and Glen Beebout, she was 68.
She attended Gulf Park College in Gulfport, Miss., for a year before transferring to the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where she graduated in 1954. A medical technology internship at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City followed. In pursuit of her career, she worked in Iowa City; Turkey Creek, Ky.; Chicago; and Lakeport. She moved to Davis in 1979 and was employed by the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine department of genetics until her retirement in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward J. Beebout. She is survived by her sister-in-law Janet Beebout of Lakeport; nephew Edward J. Beebout Jr. and his wife Cynthia; niece Glenda Beebout-Depp and her husband Richard; nephews John R. Beebout and Stephen M. Beebout; niece Leslie Adams and her husband Gregg; and 12 great-nieces and nephews, all of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by her uncle, the Rev. John L. Beebout and his wife Ruth of Knoxville; stepmother Kathryn Beebout of Las Vegas; and several cousins in Iowa, Illinois and New York.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association or charity of choice.
Funeral and interment arrangements are being handled by the Chapel of the Lakes, Lakeport.
BEOSHANZ
Elizabeth 'Betty' Beoshanz
Beoshanz, Elizabeth "Betty" passed away on Dec. 28, 2003, in Woodland. She was born on June 2, 1920 in Arbuckle, Ca., the daughter of Neil and Gladys Dulin; the wife of the late Alvin Beoshanz. She lived in this area all of her life and was active in the Yolo Boating Club and auxiliary. She was a member of the Woodland Church of the Nazarene. She will be missed by her friends and church family.
Friends are invited to attend the viewing and funeral service Friday, Jan. 2, at the Church of the Nazarene, 100 Woodland Ave. Viewing 10-11:30 a.m. funeral service 1 p.m. A committal service will follow at the Arbuckle Cemetery. Arrangements by Lind Bros. Mortuary.
BERA
Matthew Bera
Matthew Bera of Cameron Park died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at age 36.
Mr. Bera was born Jan. 27, 1969 in Fairfield. He attended Capital Christian High School in Rocklin. He entered the fire service as a firefighter/paramedic with Sacramento City Fire Department in January 1995 and was promoted to apparatus operator in December 2003.
Survivors include Mr. Bera's wife of 16 years, Lauri; his children, Megan, Lauren and Nicolas; his parents, Linda Easterly and her husband Gary and James Bera; his father- and mother-in-law, Ray and Barbara Bryers; his grandparents, Ted and Mary Carrion, John and Mary Bera, Margaret Easterly and grandmother-in-law Edna Edgeman; and his siblings, Mindy Hertzell, Katie Easterly, Ryan Bera, Shane Bera, JR Bera, Monique Bera and Scott Taylor.
Flowers may be sent to Capital Christian Center for Friday's services. The family requests memorials in Mr. Bera's name be directed to the Firefighter Pacific Burn Institute, 3823 V St., Suite No. 4., Sacramento, 95817.
Services: A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Capital Christian Center, 9470 Micron Ave., Sacramento. Immediately following the church service a graveside memorial will be held at Fair Oaks Cemetery, 7780 Olive St., Fair Oaks. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life following all of the services at "Brew It Up" located at 801 14th St. in Sacramento.
BERDOLLT
Joseph Berdollt
Joseph Berdollt of Winters died on Feb. 20, 2000, following a brief illness. He was born October 18, 1934 in Brentwood, Missouri, the son of the late John J. Berdollt and Emma Petersdorf Berdollt.
Mr. Berdollt retired from Santa Fe Railroad in Richmond, where he had been employed as a switchman. He was a member of Word of Life Christian Center of Davis. He was also a licensed minister in the Good Shepherd International Fellowship. He had been active in teaching Bible study classes in various rest homes in Davis and Woodland, and was also active serving the Meals on Wheels program in Winters.
Mr. Berdollt was an Army veteran and a Korean Conflict Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary A. Belcher Berdollt; brothers, Lloyd Berdollt of Pittsburg, and Ken Berdollt of Sacramento; sisters, Gloria Levon of Morgan Hill, Rosemary Tiger of Cottonwood; nephew, Bob Alverson of Winters; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Marie Scroggins, Estelle Marie Poll, Geraldine Roark, Vernice Wiedner and Dorothy Ann Geavoniei; and brother, John Joseph Berdollt, Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Private burial services will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, in San Pablo, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, CA 95815 or to Yolo Hospice, P. O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617, or to other local charities.
BERDOLLT
Mary Anna Berdollt
Mary Anna Berdollt of Winters passed away on Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 in Vacaville, following a short illness. Born on May 17, 1938, in Oklahoma, she was 66 years old.
Graveside services for Mrs. Berdollt were held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in San Pablo.
Arrangements were handled by the Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road, in Vacaville.
BERES
Vilmos Beres
Vilmos Beres died Feb. 22, 2000, after a long illness. Born April 19, 1928, he was 71.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, at 9:30 a.m. at Putah Creek Lodge on the UC Davis campus.
In Hungary, Beres completed university and held the position of assistant professor of horticulture. Due to political reasons, he immigrated to the United States in 1956. With great determination, he taught himself English. With persistent application he gained employment as a laboratory technician at UC Davis under Luther Davis in 1957.
While working full time, he managed to attend English classes and later was accepted as a graduate student in plant physiology. He earned a master's degree in 1962 and a Ph.D. in 1972. Through those years at UCD, Beres worked himself up to the position of research assistant from which he retired from in 1991.
He was a loving father and husband. He is survived by his wife Marta of Guerneville; three daughters Teresa Upson of Vacaville, Anna Goligowski of Sacramento and Katie Hallee of Woodland; two sons-in-law; and four grandchildren.
"He lived life to the fullest with trust, honesty, integrity and belief in education, ' his family says.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to the Kidney Foundation, to a scholarship fund or to the donor's favorite charity.
BERKMAN
Elsie Berkman
Elsie Berkman died June 30, 2000, at the Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. Born Oct. 1, 1914, in New York to the late Meyer and Sarah (Cohen) Gerson, she was 85.
She was a resident of Connecticut until her move to Arizona in 1970, where she had been an active volunteer in the community.
She marriage Isaac Berkman on Oct. 10, 1937, in New York City. He survives her.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, survivors include one son, David Berkman of Tucson; three daughters, Paula Miller of Davis, Phyllis Genel of Woodbridge and Helen Berkman of St. David, Pa.; one brother, Nat Gerson of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Helen Samuels of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
MARQUEZ
Carolyn M. Marquez
Carolyn M. Marquez died in Woodland Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 70.
Mrs. Marquez was born Aug. 7, 1935 in El Paso, Texas. She was a lifelong Woodland resident. She was a Woodland High School graduate. She was a homemaker, a pink lady and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Survivors include Mrs. Marquez's husband of 51 years, David Marquez also of Woodland; her daughters, Rhonda Randolph and Mary Ann Jacobs and her husband Lance, all of Dixon; her son, Steven Marquez of Colusa; her grandchildren, David, Michael, Alex and Ashlyn; her sisters, Mary Martinez of Woodland and Eleanor Borquez of Watsonville; and her brother, Nash Casas of West Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Services: A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 21 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
