ROGERS

Phyllis Joan Rogers

Phyllis Joan Rogers died in Sacramento Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at age 71.

Born Sept. 15, 1932 in South Bend, Ind., she had been a resident of Woodland for 50 years. Mrs. Rogers was retired after 20 years of service from the Woodland School District, where she worked as a dispatcher/trainer in the Transportation Department.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Rogers Jr. Survivors also include sons Joseph Taylor Rogers and his wife Jennean, Robert William Rogers and his wife Cindy, William Joseph Rogers all of Woodland and Philip Roy Rogers and his wife Donna, of Mapleton, Ore. and grandchildren, Robert William Rogers, Emily Joan Riley, Timothy Joseph Rogers, Douglass Joseph Rogers, Elizabeth Joan Cox, Brandon Rogers, Sean Rogers and William Rogers and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rogers is also survived by her brother Robert Taylor Walter and his wife Joyce of Laughlin, Nev., and nieces Patty Briseno, Susan and Duane Waller and nephew William Robert Walter.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Clarence Walter.

Services: A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Rogers is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Girl Scout Cabin, 430 Grand Ave., Woodland. The Neptune Society is assisting the family with arrangements.

ROGERS

Sarah (Billie) M. Rogers

Sarah (Billie) M. Rogers died in Sheridan, Wyo. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at age 84.

Born Aug. 21, 1918 in Fayetteville, Ark., Mrs. Rogers was a long time resident of Woodland retiring from Woodland Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his sons, Charles Ball and wife Nora, Bill Ball and wife Herta, all of Woodland, and Don Ball and his wife Betty of Rio Linda; and daughters, Nadine Iott and husband Don of Sheridan, Wyo. and Mary Lee Van Dalsmen of Auburn; sister, Rosie Lee Clark of Fayetteville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Woodland Cemetery, 800 West St., Woodland.

ROGERS

Theodore Rogers

Theodore "Teddy" Rogers died Dec. 8, 2000, at Sutter Davis Hospital after a lengthy battle with an illness. Born Oct. 29, 1979, he was 21.

He was a lifelong resident of Dixon, except for living temporarily in Germany and New York while his father was serving in the U.S. Air Force.

A 1997 graduate of Dixon High School, he lettered in track and cross country. He was the recipient of a bowling scholarship and also played volleyball, as well as two musical instruments: the piano and the saxophone.

He is survived by his parents, Ted and Kathy Rogers of Dixon; his sister, Janine "January" Rogers of Dixon; his maternal grandparents, Lee and Marianne Tong of Fairfield; his paternal grandfather, Ted Rogers of Fairfield; his paternal grandmother, Betty Rogers of Mount Shasta; he maternal great-grandmother, Suey Tong of Fresno; his aunts, Vivienne Powell of Campbell, Lisa Tong of Suisun, Katie Tong of Suisun and Ginger Stuart of Santa Cruz; his uncles, Bob Powell of Campbell and John Tong of Suisun; his great aunt and uncle, Bill and Margie Rogers of San Lorenzo; and numerous cousins and extended family.

Visitation will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 105 S. Second St. in Dixon. A funeral will follow.

Memorial contributions should be made to the Theodore "Teddy" Rogers Fund, which cares for Wegener's granulomatosis patients. Contributions can be sent to Bank of America, Dixon Branch, 178 N. First St., Dixon, CA 95620.

ROGGEVEEN

F. William 'Bill' Roggeveen

F. William "Bill" Roggeveen died unexpectedly in Woodland Memorial Hospital Friday May 10, 2002 at age 59.

He was born Aug. 27, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended elementary and high school in Muscatine, Iowa, and obtained his undergraduate degree in business at the University of Iowa. He then went on to complete his law degree at Duke University in North Carolina, where he was elected class president, and was a practicing attorney in Woodland. He was a member of Yolo Fliers Club, California Trial Lawyers Association and American Legion. He also served his country in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant with the first Airborne Division at Fort Benning, Ga.

After completing Officer Candidate School, he completed parachute training and later became a U.S. Army sport parachuting instructor. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Parachutist Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the Expert Rifleman and Gunnery medals.

After completing service to his country, he continued sport skydiving, bungee jumping, and was an avid golfer who enjoyed the sport with his children. According to his family, "He loved improving his mind by reading historical and Vietnam-era novels and law-related texts and information. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as perfecting his passion for barbecuing."

Mr. Roggeveen is survived by daughter Lindsey Roggeveen; sons Mitch Roggeveen, both of Woodland, and Erik Roggeveen of Berkeley; and their mother Sally Roggeveen, also of Woodland.

Also surviving are his parents, Leonard and Marie (Gullekson) Roggeveen; brother Len Roggeveen, all of Toffen, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 23, at Calvary Baptist Church, 506 Cottonwood St., Woodland.

The family requests memorials be directed to Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors, 175 Second St., Woodland.

Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.

ROJAS

Joe M. Rojas

Joe Rojas died Oct. 3, 2004, at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael. He was 84.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. in Davis. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be said at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church, 200 W. 14th St. in Davis. Burial will follow the service at the Davis Cemetery.

Born on Dec. 25, 1919, in Mexico, he was a 40-year resident of Salinas before moving to Davis in 1987.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He trained with the U.S. Rangers and was part of the first invasion of Normandy on D-Day. He was wounded twice and received two Purple Heart medals, and became 60 percent disabled. He worked for Royal Packing and Bruce Church in Salinas for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores Rojas of Davis; and his children, Edward Rojas of Davis, Gene Rojas and his wife Gloria of Salinas, and Robert Rojas of Davis.

He is further survived by his grandchildren, Gene Rojas of Folsom, Diane Rojas of Salinas, Steven Rojas of Salinas, Monica Rojas of Davis and Jeannine Rojas of Davis; and his great-grandchildren, Noah Rojas and Andrew Rojas. He will be missed by his brother, Phillip Rojas of El Centro, and sisters Mary Alvarez, Carmen Aparicio and Choney Niebla, all of San Jose.

ROJAS

Thomas San Nicolas Rojas

Thomas Rojas died unexpectedly on Sunday July 18, 2004 in Sacramento, California. Born on July 27, 1961 in Guam, he was 42 years old.

Thomas has been a resident of Winters for the past 30 years. He is survived by his children Nikoli Perry and Makayla Lee Rojas, his brothers: Francisco Rojas and wife Brigette of Germany, Gerald Rojas and wife Josephine of Guam, Peter Rojas and wife Carmen of Hawaii, Anthony Rojas of Woodland, Raymond Rojas and wife Lena of Guam; sisters: Teresita Heston of Saipan, Margaret Brice and husband Carwin of Winters, Lourdes Palomo and husband Phil of Guam, Rosa Lucero and husband Frank of Winters, Maria Rojas and dear friend Jane of Vacaville. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Jose C. and Isabel S. N. Rojas, brother David Rojas and grandparents, Pedro and Neives Rojas, and Vincent and Consoli San Nicholas.

Viewing will be held on Monday, July 26, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 3rd and Main Street in Winters. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at the Winters Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.

ROJO

Carmen (Martin) Martinez Rojo

Carmen (Martin) Martinez Rojo died in her daughter's home in Sacramento Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at age 86.

Born Sept. 12, 1915, near Putah Creek about five miles east of the City of Winters, Mrs. Rojo was the daughter of the late Antonio Melendez Martin and Maria (Gomez) Martin.

She grew up on the family farm which was in the Olive District southwest of Winters in Solano County.

She attended Olive Elementary School and a 1934 Winters High School graduate.

After high school, the then Miss Martin, became the bookkeeper for and then assisted in operations of the Garcia and Company grocery store in Main Street in Winters.

In 1942, she marriage Manual Martinez and together they operated an almond ranch south west of Arbuckle.

Upon Mr. Martinez's death in 1944 she continued to operate the almond ranch until 1949 at which time she moved back to Winters and worked at Riley's Variety Store.

In 1954, she marriage Chris Rojo of Winters, and continued raising her daughter as well as three stepdaughters and one stepson.

She worked along side her husband at their grocery store, The Winters Food Center from 1954 until it was sold in 1972.

Later she worked for the Morgans in town at their candy factory and then at the Morgan ranch which was located where her parent's farm had been.

According to her family members, “she traveled with her husband throughout California and much of the United States.

They also traveled to parts of Europe including her heritage country, Spain.

In Spain she met many of her relatives and continued to correspond with them.

She participated in the family gatherings and functions.

She was an avid gardener setting the front yard ablaze in color during the spring, summer and fall, and as a nature lover could not be kept from the garden even during the winter. She was a playful with a great sense of humor.

She was quiet, wise and dignified, and was known for her loving and caring of others.

She always had a kind word and continuously observed and practiced the positives in life.”

Mrs. Rojo is survived by her husband, Chris Rojo of Winters; daughter, Carmen Parker and husband Dale of Sacramento; stepdaughters, Ann Fischer and husband Roger of Phoenix, Ariz., Isabel Leduc of Southbridge, Mass., and Mary Coleman and husband Ray of Sacramento; stepsons, Manual Martinez and wife Aileen of Sacramento,

and Fred Rojo of Woodland; and numerous stepgranchildren; stepgreat-greandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary M. Garcia; and brothers, Antonio G., Frank G., John G., Joe G., Emilio G. and Miguel G. Martin.

A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, at The Winters Pioneer Presbyterian Church.

Interment will be at the Winters Cemetery immediately following the ceremony.

Davis Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
