Lillian King Jennings Brown
Lillian King Jennings Brown passed away at her ranch, Acorn Acres, on Tuesday morning, Feb. 22, 2005. Born on Sept. 17, 1912 in Fort Benton, Montana, to Harry and Martha (O’Reilly) King, she was 92 years old.
Lillian’s death ends an entire generation. In recent years, a lifelong dream of a journey to Ireland was fulfilled. With courage and tenacity, she traveled through life, daring to forge new paths.
She is survived by two nieces, Regina King, of Sacramento, Jennifer Karsikas, of North Carolina, three great nieces Anne Alman, Michelle Loera and Melissa King, and one great nephew, Michael Karsikas. Additional survivors are step-granchildren Lori and Bill Jennings, cousins John and Diana Larkins, and beloved cousin, Rachele Klein.
Her parents, brother, John, her husband, John Brown, and a stepson, George Jennings, preceded her in death. Cremation was through Vaca Hills Chapel, in Vacaville. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7, at the Winters Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lillian’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice, preferably to benefit animals.
CABRERA
Arturo Cabrera, Sr. (1st of 2 obituaries)
Arturo Cabrera Sr. died on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, in Woodland at age 61.
Born June 19, 1944 in El Paso, Texas to Francisco and Esther Cabrera. Mr. Cabrera had been a Yolo County resident for 60 years. He was a 1962 graduate of Woodland High School. He worked as an animal resources supervisor with the UC Davis Primate Center.
Survivors include Mr Cabrera's wife of 38 years, Rachael Cabrera of Woodland; son, Arturo Cabrera Jr. of Woodland; daughter, Melissa and her husband Robert Jorgensen of Woodland; his mother, Esther Cabrera of Texas; and sisters, Martha Martinez, Carmen Lucchesi, Gloria Munoz all of Woodland; and brother Frank Cabrera of Roseville. Mr. Cabrera is also survived by grandchildren, Alyssa Cabrera, and Amanda and Samatha Jorgensen, all of Woodland.
Mr. Cabrera was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Cabrera; and grandparents, Jerry and Luz Rivera and Luz and Gregory Cabrera.
Services: A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Father Enrique will officiate. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery. McNary's Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Arturo Cabrera, Sr. (2nd of 2 obits.)
Arturo Cabrera Sr. died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005 at Woodland Memorial Hospital, after suffering from congestive heart failure. He was 61 years old.
Art, the son of Esther Cabrera, of El Paso, Texas, and the late Francisco Cabrera, was born in El Paso on June 19, 1944 and raised in Woodland. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1962 and enlisted in the Army in 1963. He was stationed at Fort Hamilton in New York and in Germany. He graduated from Sacramento City College with an associate of arts degree in business administration.
Art worked for the California National Primate Research Center at UC Davis for 37 years and retired as an animal resources supervisor in June 2004.
Art was a loving father and devoted husband, who enjoyed spending time with his family, including vacations to Hawaii and Disneyland. And he specially loved playing with and being around his three granddaughters, who brought laughter and light to his life.
Art was always generous with his time, helping out family members and friends without being asked. Always a joker, Art was known for his wit and fun-loving humor.
Art was an avid bowler, who passed many happy nights at Woodhaven Lanes. For 10 years, he owned Art's Pro Shop at the bowling alley, and he made many lasting friendships from that business. He loved to dance and listened to a wide variety of music. He also liked to golf and play softball and pool.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rachael; his two children, Arturo Jr. and Melissa Jorgensen; Robert Jorgensen, Melissa's husband; and grandchildren Alyssa Cabrera and Amanda and Samantha Jorgensen.
A vigil will be held today, Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. Mass will be said Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary with interment to follow. There will be a reception after the services at the Eagles Hall, 37650 State Highway 16.
CADENASSO
Nicholas Edmund Cadenasso
Nicholas Edmund Cadenasso of Esparto died at Lodi Memorial Hospital Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 at age 95.
Mr. Cadenasso was born May 8, 1910 on Cadenasso Ranch in Esparto. He was a life-long Yolo County resident. He attended Santa Clara Prep School and later Heald Business College. For more than 75 years he worked as a farmer. He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and of the Woodland Elks Club, where he was a past exalted ruler.
Survivors include Mr. Cadenasso's daughter, Barbara Nash and her husband Sam of Stockton; his sons, Silvio Cadenasso and his wife Judy of Los Osos and David Cadenasso and his wife Carmen of Fresno; his son-in-law, Robert McCarthy of Kenwood; his grandchildren, Steven Cadenasso, Catherine Williams, Jerome Cadenasso, Jeff and Brian Nash, Barry and Erin McCarthy and Joel and Nicole Cadenasso; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Josephine Cadenasso and his daughter, Virginia McCarthy.
Services: A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Esparto with Monsignor Andrew Coffey officiating. Interment will be at Capay Cemetery. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
CANEPA
Benny Phillip Canepa (1st of 2 obituaries)
Benny Canepa of Woodland passed away in his home on Sept. 11, 2005 at the age of 85. Born in Alameda on June 14, 1920, Benny has been a resident of Woodland for 53 years.
Benny worked in ranching when he first arrived in Woodland, and then co-owned the Woodland Garbage Company until he retired in the 1980s, when it was sold to Waste Management. In 1940, he marriage Norma Ferro, and they had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in May.
Benny is preceded in death by his sisters Marie and Benadetta, and his brothers, Joe, John and Anthony.
He is survived by his wife Norma, his children Ken Canepa and his wife Nancy of Georgetown, Texas, Marilyn Smith and her husband Lee of Woodland; grandchildren: Mark Canepa and his wife Annalisa of Round Rock, Texas, John Canepa and his wife Laurie of Round Rock, Texas, Ben Smith and his wife Jaime of Concord, and Amy Smith and her fiancŽ Shunon Hill of Lakeport; plus eight great-grandchildren: Cierra Hill, Kiele DeWitt, Kelsey DeWitt, Alyssa Hill, Kaytlin Smith, Andrew DeWitt, Brooke Hill and soon to be born Nicolas Canepa; his brother Lawrence Canepa and his wife Rena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
During Benny's lifetime, he was President of Babe Ruth, Exalted Ruler of the Elks from 1962-1963, he also was involved with Rotary and the American Legion. Benny also served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines.

Roberto Z. Carrillo
Roberto Z. Carrillo died in Sacramento Friday, July 29, 2005, at age 68.
Born June 7, 1937, in Villa Hidalgo, Durango, Mexico, Mr. Carrillo had been a Yolo County resident for 45 years. He was an elementary school graduate and was employed as a maintenance mechanic for Contadina Foods for
Mr. Carrillo is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lydia Carrillo; daughters, Letticia Melgoza and Araceli Wilcox; sons, Robert and Danny Carrillo and Larry Miranda; grandchildren, Sophia and Robin Wilcox, Vanessa and Juliana Miranda, Nataly and Laura Melgoza, and Christopher and Gabriela Carrillo; and great-grandchild, Little Ari Wilcox. Also surviving are his sisters, Gumercinda Franco, Narcisa Angel and Juanita Angel; brothers, Jesus and Rodrigo Carrillo, and Francisco and Benjamin Angel; stepsisters, Rosa and Aurelia Carrillo; and stepbrothers, Polo, Jose and Teo Carrillo.
Mr. Carrillo was preceded in death by his parents, Macario and Josefina (Zaragoza) Carrillo; and sister, Amalia Saucedo.
Services: A vigil was held Wednesday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A Mass is scheduled to be celebrated at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 4, with burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel.
CAIRNS
Kenneth E. Cairns
Kenneth E. Cairns died in his home Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at age 74.
Born March 15, 1929, in Pottsville, Pa., Mr. Cairns had been a Woodland resident for the past 20 years. He was a retired postman from Netcong, N.J.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Connie Cairns; children, Stephen Cairns of Woodland, Gary Cairns and wife Cindy of Rocklin; grandchildren, Crissi Cairns of Woodland and Austin Cairns of Rocklin; and sister, Edit Van Normal of Henderson, Nev.
