Leona E. Davis
Leona Ellen Davis died on Nov. 13, 2002. Born in Martinsville, Ohio, on Aug. 10, 1926, to Howard and Lura Worrell Hiatt, she was 76 years old.
She attended public school in Port William, Ohio, where she was president of her junior and senior classes. She attended Wilmington College where she was a member of Delta Omega Theta sorority. After college, she began working at Wright Patterson Airbase where she met and marriage George D. Davis in 1947. She traveled with George and their four children to his different duty stations stateside and also went to Spain.
After her husband's retirement from the Air Force in 1966, the family moved to California and settled in Davis where she lived and worked at UC Davis. She worked in UCD's equipment management department until her husband was transferred to the Panama Canal zone, where she lived until 1976. She then returned to her home and job in Davis. She worked at UCD until her retirement in 1991.
She was an ardent arts lover. She volunteered for UCD Present for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Davis, where she participated in choir and played piano for the children's choir. She sometimes served as pianist for the First Southern Baptist Church. She also sang occasionally with the choirs of First Southern Baptist and St. James Church. She loved to sing.
She was kind of heart and never turned anyone away. She was always there for anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, George G. Davis. She is survived by her daughter Georgia Morris and her husband Glen of Rio Linda; daughter Anita Garcia and her husband Rocky of Winters; sons Glenn and David, both of Davis; grandchildren Rick Caster, Kristin Sleuter and her husband Ron, all of Davis; Jayson, Logan and Marlaina Garcia, all of Winters; great-grandson Bradley Sleuter of Davis; sister Eleanor J. McKee of Xenia, Ohio; niece Kathy Erickson and her children, all of Orange; nephew Dana McKee and his wife Kathleen and their three sons of South Carolina.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church of Davis on Anderson Road.
ALLISON
Dorothy S. Allison
Dorothy S. Allison died Feb. 3, 2005, at Courtyard Healthcare in Davis. She was 78.
A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2005, at Davis Cemetery.
Born Nov. 22, 1926, in Weehawken, N.J., to John and Grace Simmons, she grew up in New Jersey. She earned her registered nurse degree from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, then her master's degree in nursing from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., before beginning a 20-year career in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.
She lived in Davis for 25 years, and was a longtime member of the Davis Women's Golf Club.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Jack Simmons.
She is survived by brothers Jack Simmons of Castaic and Fred Simmons of Palos Verdes, nephews Steve Simmons and his wife Elaine of Chehalis, Wash., Scott Simmons and his wife Diane of Pismo Beach, and partner Betty J. Lewis of Davis.
The family asks memorial donations be made to Yolo Hospice.
ALONSO
Lelia Alonso
Lelia Alonso passed away peacefully in her daughter's home surrounded by her family in Knights Landing, Ca., on Monday, Nov. 17, 2003. Lelia was born in Sacramento, Ca., on Nov. 7, 1918 to Anacleto and Erminia Lorenzetti.
Lelia is survived and deeply loved by her three children, Anita Ricci and husband Ron, Gerald Alonso and wife Mattie, and Elaine Lytle and husband Gary. She was loving Nonie to grandchildren Randy Ricci and wife Jane, Robert Ricci and wife Tracy, Jennifer Fitzer and husband Christian, Tanya Lytle, Christopher Alonso and wife Christina, Troy Lytle and wife Susie, and Tara Lytle, and Biz Nonie to her 10 great-grandchildren. Her extended family include sisters, Julia Cordoza and husband Manuel and Alma Alison, sisters-in-law Isabel Alonso, Maria Alonso, and Trini Bidegan, and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Her husband, Antonio Alonso in 1958, and sisters Fautina Lorenzetti and Lea Lovoi preceded Lelia in death.
Lelia attended school in the Yuba City area. She was a Sutter and Yolo County resident for 62 years where she farmed in Sutter Basin with her husband and children while taking care of her family and the family home. Lelia was active with the Saint Paul's Catholic Church, Italian Federation, and her Pedro and Bridge Clubs.
A viewing will be held at Kraft Brothers Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland, Monday, Nov. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer vigil following at 7 p.m. The Catholic Funeral Mass will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. officiated by Father Theodore Gabrielli, S.J., a friend of the family. The burial will immediately follow the mass at the Knights Landing Cemetery.
DAVIS
Mary Knight Davis
The spirit of Mary Davis passed into God's glory peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, while she was surrounded by her family who loved her. Born in Woodland to Clarence and Iris Knight of Yolo, Mary was a resident of Yolo County for nearly all her adult life. Mary was on the earth for nearly 88 years and spent most of her time serving others.
Mary was raised in Yolo and graduated from Woodland High School, going on to attend Chico State College, where she received her AB degree and teaching credential in 1939. She then taught elementary school for over 30 years, only taking time off to raise sons Pat and Mike. She retired in 1975 and spent the last 29 years of her life enjoying retirement with her husband, George, in Woodland and Forest Meadows.
Mary had an eternal impact on those who knew her, especially the hundreds of children whom she taught over the years. She was a dedicated wife, mother, teacher, and friend to her family, friends and students. She was always the most giving person, always offering of herself in countless ways and circumstances.
Mary volunteered as a Woodland Hospital Pink Lady and as a member of the Woodland Episcopal Guild and was a member of the Davis Golf Course and Forest Meadows ladies golf groups. She crocheted and needle-pointed hundreds of items, mostly gifts, for family and friends over several decades and enjoyed playing bridge with several ladies bridge groups.
Mary Davis is survived by her husband, George, and twin sons Pat and Mike and their children and grandchildren. A brief graveside service is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Mary's Cemetery in Yolo. The family requests that you please join us in remembering Mary's life at a celebration service in her honor on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 at 10 a.m., at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 515 Second St., Woodland. Memorials may be sent in Mary's name to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or to Yolo Hospice.
DAVIS
Ronald James Davis
Ronald James Davis was born to Larry Davis Sr. and Emma Louise (Brown) Davis on Feb. 27, 1944 in Porterville. He left us on Friday, April 23, 2004. He was 60 years of age.
Ronnie attended Arbuckle High School. He owned and operated Ronald J. Davis and Son Trucking. He loved fishing, camping, scuba diving, and boating with his loving family.
He is survived by his son Robbie J. Davis and fiancee Tristo Duboise of West Sacramento; daughter Shawna K. Paulson and husband Peter Paulson; grandchildren Kristen K. Paulson and Jens P.H. Paulson, all of Woodland; ex-wife Donna Rae Foster of Woodland; sisters Florence B (Tootsie) Holmes and husband John D. Holmes of Woodland, Mabelle Smith of Columbia, Mo. and numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Fred and Dorothy Martin; brothers, Larry Lee Davis Jr. and Ikie Joseph Davis.
The service will be held at McNary's Chapel on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 3 p.m.
DAVIS
Wanda Davis
Wanda Davis died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at age 82.
Born May 7, 1921, in Paris, Ark., Mrs. Davis had been a Yolo County residents for over 30 years. She was a member of Methodist Church in Knights Landing and Knights Landing Garden Club.
Survivors include his sons, Gary Davis and wife Judy of Knights Landing, and John Davis and wife Marie of Vacaville; grandchildren, Stacey Christison, Pamela Davis, and David Martin, all of Knights Landing, Catherine Ford of Sacramento, Vicky France of Smith River, Paula Davis of Vacaville and Gary Davis of Modesto; great-grandchildren, Addy Davis, Emily Christison, and Nicole Martin, also all of Knights Landing, Desiree, Danielle, Jared and Mariah France of Smith River; and Jackie Davis of Florida; and companion, Ted Superak.
The family requests memorials be directed to Community United Methodist Church, Knights Landing or the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, with a memorial service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church, Knights Landing.
WACKER
Linda Marie Wacker
Linda Marie Wacker died in Modesto on Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at age 47.
Born Sept. 21, 1955, in Sacramento, Ms. Wacker had been a Yolo County resident for 20 years. She was a Woodland resident for two years. She had a stained glass shop and gave lessons. When she moved to Sacramento she became a sales representative for lighting company. She grew up in Broderick.
Survivors include her daughter, Desiree Mazingo and husband Travis of Maui; granddaughter Nevaeh; sisters, Diana Pearson and husband Dean of Woodland, Kathy Shannon and husband Brian of Modesto and Joan Emrie and husband Steven of St. Louis; brothers, Mike Dowell and wife Edie of St. Louis and Roger Miller and wife Ann of Ozarks; five nieces and four nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today Wednesday, Feb. 12, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. Funeral service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove.
WAGERS
Gary Wagers
A public memorial service for Sgt. Gary Wagers of the California Highway Patrol is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Capital Christian Center, 9470 Micron Drive in Sacramento.
Wagers died on March 15, 2001, in the early morning hours. The 22-year veteran of the CHP died in an on-duty solo motor vehicle accident. He was born on Nov. 30, 1946, in Michigan.
Survivors included his wife, Linda, and three children: stepdaughter Carrie, 31; daughter Shelley, 28; and son Garhett, 31.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sacramento SPCA, 6201 Florin-Perkins Road, Sacramento, CA 95828.
