Alene Wann
Alene Wann funeral services Friday at Freewill Baptist
Funeral services will be held for Alene Wann on Friday, June 29, at the Freewill Baptist Church, 18 Haven Street, Winters, beginning at 10 a.m. Viewing will commence at the church one hour before the service time.
Mrs. Wann died on June 25, 1990 at Sutter Davis Hospital. She was born in Arkansas on April 27, 1921 and was 69 years of age.
She and her husband, Warren, had been marriage for 44 years. She had been a homemaker all of her adult life. The couple formerly lived in Wister, Oklahoma, and moved to Winters in 1956.
Survivors include her husband, Warren Wann of Winters; five children: Kathleen Lawrence of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jim Hamner of Williams, Philip Hamner of Newcastle, Oklahoma, Joyce Lowrie of Winters and Linda Hennagin of Dixon; a brother, H.L. Johnson of Poplar, California; and a sister, Margie McKinney of Heavner, Oklahoma. Thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith’s Colonial Chapel.
WARD
Alvin "Al" Ward
Alvin "Al" Ward died at Mather Veterans Hospital Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at age 44.
Mr. Ward was born Feb. 28, 1961 in Oakland to George Ward and Rose Rowe. He had been a Yolo County resident for most of his life. He attended Woodland area schools and San Diego State University. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a roofer and was a member of the Second Greater Baptist Church of Woodland.
Survivors include Mr. Ward's stepmother, Estella Ward of Woodland; his sisters, Wanda Ward, Danielle Ward Benson, Georgette Ward Sanders and Rula Ward Marzariego all of Sacramento, and Janelle Mitchell of San Francisco; his brothers, George Ward of Arbuckle, Jerry Mitchell, Stevie Mitchell, Charles Vance, all of San Francisco, and Lamar Vance of Arizona; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, George Ward and mother, Rose Rowe.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Ward's name be directed to Walter House or Cache Creek Lodge.
Services: A celebration of Mr. Ward's life is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at the Greater Second Baptist Church, 435 Second St., Woodland with Reverend Beard officiating. The Morgan Jones Funeral Home of Sacramento is assisting the family with arrangements.
DAWSON
Millard Dawson
Millard Dawson died of cancer with family by his side on Jan. 2, 2000, in Roseville. Born on Jan. 26, 1914, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Temple Chapman and Frank Dawson, he was 85.
He marriage Beatrice Duistermars on April 19, 1940, in Denver. He devoted his life to serving his country, church and family. He came of age during the Great Depression and served in both the National Guard and the Civilian Conservation Corp in his home state.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and saw combat aboard in LST during World War II, in both the European and Pacific theaters. After the war he joined the U.S. Postal Service, working his way up to and retiring as the assistant superintendent of Redwood City.
He also spent time in the Army Reserve.
He joined the Church of Latter-day Saints before his retirement and stayed committed to its principals.
He eventually retired to a life of golf at Lake of the Pines near Auburn and he and his wife of 59 years later lived at Covell Gardens in Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Dawson; four sons, Brian Dawson of Irvine, Steven Dawson of Santa Rosa, Robert Dawson who is stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and James Dawson of Davis; six grandchildren, Christy Winegar, Sheldon Dawson, Blaine Dawson, Spencer Dawson, Erin Dawson and Molly Dawson; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlen Richardson, Taylor Richardson, Zachary Winegar and Mckenzie Winegar.
His family will always love and miss him.
A memorial service was held on Saturday at Covell Gardens in Davis.
DE ANGELIS
Edward De Angelis & Judith Colleton
A memorial Mass celebrating the lives of Edward De Angelis and his daughter, Judith Colleton, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. in Davis. A reception immediately follows the Mass.
Edward De Angelis died Nov. 29, 2005. Judith Colleton died Jan. 17, 2006.
Survivors include Helen De Angelis, Ruth Ann Kinsella and Thomas Colleton.
DeBOLT
Walter Wayne DeBolt
Walter Wayne DeBolt passed away peacefully Feb. 26, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen DeBolt. He was born Aug. 25, 1913 to Amos and Nora DeBolt in Arbuckle. He survived his brothers, Claude, Vernon, Pinkie, and Lloyd and sisters, Thelma, Evelyn, and Eileen. He was the father of two children, Sharon Lukehart and the late Lynn DeBolt. Walter was the grandfather of eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He graduated from Arbuckle High School and worked as a warehouseman for most of his adult years. Family and friends are invited to attend a farewell to be held at the Arbuckle Golf Course Club House at 11 o'clock on Monday, March 6, 2006.
DE FER
Richard Arlon De Fer
Richard Arlon De Fer died at his home in Woodland Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005 at age 63.
Mr. De Fer was born June 3, 1942 to Estes and Maggie (Searls) De Fer in Cartwright, Okla. He was employed in the timber industry working as a professional tree trimmer for more than 20 years.
Survivors include Mr. De Fer's wife of 36 years, Lena De Fer of Woodland of Woodland; his daughter, Gerry Lynn Hamilton and her husband James of Bellflower; his sons, Curtis Osborne and Ken Osborne, both of Redding, Dennis Osborne and his wife Diana of Woodland, Joseph De Fer of Cheyenne, Wyo. and William De Fer of Buena Park; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Linda Steves of Trinidad and Dorothy Fredrickson of Salem, Ore.; and his brother, Robert De Fer of Mendocino. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy Osborne.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22, Woodland with Reverend Mark Gallego of Foursquare Church officiating. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
PAQUIN
William J. Paquin
William Joseph Paquin died on Sept. 6, 2002, at his home in Davis. Born Sept. 26, 1927, in Rice County, Minnesota, he was 74 years old.
He came to Davis in 1952 and worked at UC Davis as a plant pathologist for more than 28 years. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including designing and building boats and airplanes.
He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Davis Senior Center. He was also a past Scout Master with the Cub Scouts. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, spending most of his military assignment in China's Yellow Sea.
His wife, Evelyn Paquin, preceded him in death in May 1995.
He is survived by his son, Mark Paquin of Carson City; his brother, Henry Paquin of Minnesota; a sister, Florence Caron of Lancaster; and his grandson, Nicholas Paquin of Carson City.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 200 W. 14th St. in Davis. Inurnment will take place at the Davis Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.
