John Archie Hubert
John Archie Hubert passed away in Gualala on Dec. 5, 2003. Born on Sept. 2, 1911 in Winters, he was 92 years old.
Mr. Hubert grew up in the Winters area, and was the third of five children who are all deceased with the exception of an older brother, Bud, who lives on the family ranch in Pleasant Valley.
Mr. Hubert made war ships at the Napa Ship Yard during World War II before moving to Gualala to work in the lumber industry. He owned and operated the Alder Mill for several years. He was a member of the NRA and the AARP.
In addition to his brother, Mr. Hubert is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including James and Judy Hubert of Gualala, Gail Gage and family of Pleasant Valley, and Vicki Hayes and family of Washington state. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruby Hubert. They did not have children.
At Mr. Hubert's request, no services will be held. His ashes will be scattered at sea, as were his wife's.
HUDDLESTON
Allen J. Huddleston
Allen J. Huddleston, 68, loving husband and father, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000 at the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, New Mexico.
Mr. Huddleston was born in Fresno, California on Dec. 28, 1931 to Floyd and Marion Huddleston. During his school years he was active in music, playing the trombone with the band and later with a dance band. After graduating from Los Banos High School in 1950 he began a 33 year career as a surveyor for the US Bureau of Reclamation.
Later in Winters he met and marriage Elsie Griffin, which began a life together that would last over 46 years. Al’s job took the family from California to Chester, Montana, Riverdale and Harvey, North Dakota, and in 1978 to Farmington, New Mexico.
Mr. Huddleston was active in the Cub Scouts helping to form one of the largest packs in Los Banos. He and his wife were also active in the Methodist Church as leaders in the Methodist Youth Fellowship while in Harvey, North Dakota.
Mr. Huddleston is survived by his wife Elsie; sons, Allen Jr. of California, Ron and his wife, Carla, of Colorado and Stephen of Maryland; grandchildren, Casey and Jason; sister, Janice Jackson of Los Banos, California.

The Funeral Services Were Held This Afternoon
The body of the late Mrs. Catherine Hudson arrived from Napa Thursday evening and was taken to the residence of her son, Andrew Jackson, on Cleveland.
The funeral services were held at the same place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. They were brief but impressive, and were witnessed by a large number of old friends of the deceased. Rev. J.A, Van Anda officiated. A still larger congregation witnessed the closing services at the cemetery. Many friends brought floral offerings, and the little mound was covered with fragrant flowers.
The pallbearers were Judge Ruggles, Judge Grant, Theodore Dopking, Daniel Farnbam, J. Abbott and Louie Frazee.

HUERTA
Maria Anita Huerta
Maria Anita Huerta died on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Cottonwood Healthcare Center in Woodland. She was 50.
Born on July 25, 1954, in Buena Vista, Michoacan, Mexico, she resided in Colusa County for the past 30 years. She worked as a laborer in agriculture in Yolo and Colusa counties for 25 years, and was employed for Cache Creek Casino for two years.
Preceding her death were her father Alejandro Mora, who died in 1976, and brother, Migual Mora, in 1994.
She is survived by daughter Olivia and her husband Jose Luis Figueroa II of Esparto; sons Armando and Israel Bernal of Arbuckle; mother Birginia Mora of West Chicago, Ill.; brothers Alejandro Mora of Elk Grove and Manuel Mora of Arbuckle; and sisters Leticia Lopez and Celia Perez of West Chicago and Refugio Huerta of Arbuckle; and grandson Jose Luis Figueroa III of Esparto.
An evening vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 575 California St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with interment at Arbuckle Cemetery.
Arrangements have been made under the direction of the Evergreen Funeral Service in Woodland.
HUFF
Mary Lou Huff
Mary Lou Huff passed away at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at age 66.
Mary was born Aug. 10, 1938 in Nebraska. She was a Yolo County resident for 30 years. She was a graduate of Marshall High School in West Sacramento. She was employed for 24 years with the State of California.
Survivors include Mary's husband of 35 years, Charles R. Huff; her son, Ron Eck; her stepchildren, B. John Huff, Susan C. Huff, Paul Huff and Billy Huff and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Ballew.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
HUGGINS
Myrle Evelyn "Edmonds" Huggins
Myrle Evelyn (Edmonds) Huggins died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Palomar Hospital, Escondido, of complications from heart surgery performed on Oct. 26, 2001, at age 85.
Born June 12, 1916, and a native of Texas, Mrs. Huggins was the daughter of the late William Virgil Edmonds and Sadie Barnes (Honea) Edmonds. She graduated with honors from East Texas State University, Commerce, Texas, in 1967. She was a member of the Registry of Medical Technologists of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She lived in Woodland from 1967 to 1985. She worked for Woodland Memorial Hospital Clinic, now Woodland Healthcare from 1967 to 1979. She was with Yolo Diagnostic Labs in Davis from 1979 until 1981, and retired to San Diego in 1985 after a 28-year career as a registered medical technologist in Texas and Woodland.
Mrs. Huggins enjoyed many hobbies and was active in Woodland area business and professional clubs, and in San Diego genealogy, cactus and succulent, stamp, coin, postcard, and travel clubs. She traveled extensively throughout Texas, U.S., Mexico and Europe. She loved life and trying new experiences. She even visited the Casbah in Morocco during her travels to Europe. While traveling in Mexico, she was in a train crash, where her medical training was invaluable as she assisted the many injured and dying. She spent a month in Austria on a home exchange, making many friends and also visiting Germany and Switzerland. She enjoyed many Elderhostel educational programs throughout the Western United States and Alaska. On her 80th birthday, she took a chartered helicopter ride over Washington, D.C. She also had a private tour of the White House, including the Oval Office and the Executive Office Building.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Wilson of Marysville, Jay Bibbens of Temecula, and Ann Edmonds of Turlock; brother, Raymond Edmonds of Redwood City; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Huggins was preceded in death by her brother, Col. Melvin T. Edmonds (USAF) of San Antonio, Texas.
Humphrey Mortuary of Chula Vista assisted the family with arrangements.
HUGHES
Doran Hughes
Doran Hughes of Santa Maria died Oct. 1, 2004, from complications of cancer. He was 73.
A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Bruce McClain from Pine Grove Baptist Church officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Hughes was born in the tiny farming village of Belknap, La., in 1931 to Hazel and J.A. Hughes. He was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, La., in 1949. In 1951, he volunteered for the draft and was stationed in Osaka, Japan, where he met and marriage Utako Hirano in 1953.
A year later, they moved back to Iowa where he graduated from Parsons College in Bloomfield with a bachelor's degree in biology. He proceeded to Iowa State University and earned a master's degree in plant physiology in 1958.
He then moved to California with his wife, where he became a laboratory technician at the School of Agriculture at UC Davis. It was there that he completed his doctorate degree in plant physiology.
After experiencing stomach cancer in 1975, his doctors gave him five years to live. It was then that he had a revelation that drew him closer to the Lord. He began attending a local Southern Baptist church. He began to realize that this was his calling and he came to pastor the first Southern Baptist Church in West Sacramento in 1985. His family says being a pastor brought him so much joy and he said that it was "what he had been created for."
In 1993, the family moved to Santa Maria where they felt they were home. He continued to work in the ministry as pastor for Tanglewood Baptist Church and also at Clark Avenue Baptist Church. He continued touching many people in the community through his involvement with the Meals-on-Wheels program at the Oasis Senior Center in Orcutt.
He also served as president of the Lifelong Learning Institute and taught memory courses at Allan Hancock College. He was also named Senior Citizen of the Year in 2001 by the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his daughter, Janice Hughes Gunnells of Llano, Calif.; a brother, Dave Hughes of Ottumwa, La.; and a nephew, Teiichi Hirano of Sacramento.
