WILSON

Robert "Bob" Wilson Sr.

Robert "Bob" Wilson Sr. died in Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, Woodland following a lengthy illness Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at age 67.

Born March 13, 1935, in Racine, Wis., Mr. Wilson moved to Woodland in the 1950s, where he marriage Louise Wilson in 1959. In 1991 he went into semi-retirement and moved to Coos Bay, Ore., where he and his wife ran a mom and pop grocery store until they fully retired in 2000 and returned to Woodland.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise Wilson of Woodland; son, Robert Wilson Jr. and wife Julie of Woodland; daughter, Kathy Duzan and friend of Taft; grandchildren, Shelli Villamor of Bakersfield; step grandchild, Heather Ely of Woodland; and great-grandchild, Kady Feliz of Taft.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at McNary's Chapel.

The family requests memorials be directed to Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, Woodland.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

WILSON

Steven E. Wilson

Steven E. Wilson, a 30-year Davis resident, died on Feb. 21, 2000, at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis. Born on Dec. 14, 1951, in Lodi, he was 49 years old.

Steven was raised in Lodi and graduated from Lodi High School. He attended UC Davis and graduated with a bachelor's degree. He worked for the Yolo County Health Department for several years before opening Splash Pool Care Co. in Davis, which he had operated for the past several years.

He is survived by his parents, Francis and Virginia Wilson of Lodi. He also leaves his brother, Larry Wilson of Sacramento and his wife Rhonda; and nephews, Blair Wilson of Colorado and Benjamin Wilson of Germany.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. Burial will follow the service at the Davis Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made in Steven's name to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

WINBERG

Dorothy Ursula Winberg

Dorothy Ursula Winberg died Feb. 18, 2005, at Sierra Health Care Convalescent Hospital in Davis. She was 90 years old.

A celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sacramento.

Born Sept. 4, 1914, in New York City, she was the fourth child of James and Nora (O'Connor) Neeson, both Irish immigrants. Her family moved to the Baychester section of then-rural Bronx when she was 9 years old.

In 1932, she marriage her neighborhood sweetheart, Milton "Mitt" Winberg. She lived with her husband and four children in the same Baychester area for 20 years before moving to Yonkers, N.Y., where they remained until her husband's retirement in 1972.

Although she accepted several different part-time jobs to help with expenses, she was primarily a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She was also a championship league bowler. After retiring to Modesto, she and her husband learned to play golf and enjoyed many hours and rewarding friendships centered on that game. They moved to Davis in September of 2000 to be near family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mitt in May 2004, just short of their 72nd wedding anniversary; two of her children, Christopher Winberg and Frances Winberg; her sisters, Loretta Baggott and Elizabeth Tohsweg; and her brother, Charles Neeson.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ross and her husband Bill of Davis; her son, Charles Winberg and his wife Judithanne of Davis; and her son James Winberg and his wife Barbara, of Geneva, Switzerland.

She is further survived by 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

MELTON

Evadne Melton

Evadne Melton died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 in Woodland at age 78.

Born on May 20, 1925 in Pryor, Mo., Mrs. Melton had been a resident of Yolo County for 20 years. She was a member of the Foothills Assembly of God in Yuma, Ariz. She was a beautician until her retirement in 1969.

Survivors include her daughter, Victoria Melton of Brooks; sister Verlene Akers of Maryland; brothers, Carl Smith of Citrus Heights, Roy Smith of Amador County and Jerry Smith of Missouri and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Melton.

The family requests memorials be directed to Diabetes Foundation; or to Yolo Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

MENDOZA

Antonia 'Toni' Mendoza

Antonia "Toni" Mendoza died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Woodland Memorial Hospital at age 82.

Toni was born April 22, 1922 in Gallup, N.M.

She had been a Yolo County resident for 42 years.

She attended schools in San Diego.

Toni worked as a riveter on planes during World War II, was a housekeeper at Yolo General Hospital in the 60s and a homemaker.

In the late 60s, she was the first woman Little League manager for the minor league team, the Solons, who took first place.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She enjoyed trips to the Cache Creek and Colusa casinos, playing bingo where she resided and gardening.

At the age of 82, our Heavenly Father called upon her, where she will always be happy, healthy and smiling down on her family, who will always love her, miss her and will one day see her again.

Survivors include her daughters, Toni Salazar and Ysabel Flores and her husband Frank; her sons, Gilbert Barrios all of Woodland, Victor Mena and his companion Cathy of Sacramento, Mike and Shirley Mena of El Cajon and Ramon and Rosalie Mendoza of Temecula; her sister, Virginia Sculley and her husband Bob of Vancouver, Wash.; her grandchildren, Joe, Rhea, Sonya, Mike Jr., Robert, Michelle, Michael, Diana, Gaylene, Mark, Toby, Tanya, Tina, Ramon, Anthony and Mariah; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Toribio and Trinidad Deras; her sister, Lupe Thompson; her brother, David Deras; her son-in-law, Sal Salazar; her great-granddaughter, Vanessa Navarrette and her good friends, Janette Samuels and Octavio Navarrette.

Services: A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. today, , Jan. 6 at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland.

Interment will follow the service at St. Joseph Cemetery.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MERALA

Marjan Merala

Marjan Merala, a 46-year resident of Davis, died peacefully on Dec. 2, 2005, with his children present. He was 83.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. in Davis.

Born on Aug. 28, 1922, he was the second of three children of Ferdinand and Marija Merala of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He studied law at the University of Ljubljana until the occupiers closed the school in 1943.

He became part of the local resistance protecting the civilian populace from the Communist Partisans as well as the occupiers. After the war, he fled Slovenia and studied veterinary medicine at the University of Madrid, receiving his license in 1951.

After immigrating to the United States, he studied at the University of Illinois where he earned a master's degree in library science. While living in Chicago he met his wife, Marija. They were marriage in 1956 and had five children.

In 1959 the family moved to Davis where Marjan became librarian at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He loved books and became an associate university librarian for UCD. His primary responsibility was to administer the health sciences library. He was consulted in the design of numerous medical libraries, including Gainesville, Fla., and Vera Cruz, Mexico.

After his retirement in 1986, he continued to receive requests from the World Health Organization to help other schools.

He was fluent in nine languages, which allowed him to translate many medical research articles into English for the UCD faculty.

His life's focus was his family. He loved the outdoors and taught all of his children how to ski. Most family vacations were camping trips where everyone climbed the mountains and swam the lakes. He was the leader of Cub Scout Pack 194 and conducted many 50-mile hikes for his sons' Boy Scout troop.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Marija Merala; and his brother, Raymond (Rajko.)

He is survived by his children, Raymond Merala and his wife Laura Perani of San Carlos; Mark Merala and his wife Sylvie Pontbriand of Cupertino; Mariann Huso and her husband Tony of Clancy, Mont.; Anita Carte and her husband Jeff, of Clancy, Mont.; and Thomas Merala and his wife Lisa of Rocklin; and his sister, Marija Kuk, of Scarborough, Ontario.

He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Daniel, Kristen, Shannon, Gabriel, Kalli, Kerri and Marija.

The family asks that gifts in his memory be sent to: Marjan and Marija Merala Health Sciences Libraries Endowment Fund, Library Administration, Shields Library, UCD, Davis, CA, 95616-5292; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

MERCADO

Jesus (Jesse) Mercado

Jesus (Jesse) Mercado died following a lengthy illness in Woodland Memorial Hospital Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at age 56.

Born Sept. 19, 1945, in Mezquitic, Mexico, Mr. Mercado came to Woodland in the early 1960s and had been a resident since. He was employed by Yolo County Housing Authority for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1999. According to his family members, "he enjoyed traveling to Mexico to visit his family and spending time with his two grandsons."

Mr. Mercado is survived by his children, Sonia Mercado and Sophia Mercado, both of Sacramento; and grandsons, Anthony Mercado and Mateo Ramirez.

He is also survived by his mother, Enriqueta Macias Mercado of Guadalajara, Mexico; sisters, Rosa of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Yolanda of Long Beach; and companion, Anna Olmedo.

Mr. Mercado was preceded in death by his father, Baltazar Mercado of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, with a vigil to follow at 7 p.m., at McNary's Chapel, Woodland.

Respecting the wishes of Mr. Mercado, burial services will be in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The family requests memorials be directed to Woodland Healthcare Foundation.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
