Rites held for Gerald Mentink
Memorial services were held in the Davis Community Church Tuesday morning for Gerald Dana “Jerry” Mentink, 51, who died in the Yolo General Hospital Saturday, December 19, 1987.
McNary’s Chapel, of Woodland, was in charge of arrangements.
Mentink, a member of Woodland Elks Lodge, the Woodland Masonic Lodge and the Yolo Sportsman’s Club, was a native of Richfield, California.
He is survived by his father, Victor Mentink Sr., of Calistoga; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kevin Belcher of Woodland; a daughter, Wendi Mentink of Sacramento; six brothers, Sterling Mentink of Yuba City, Roger Mentink of Palo Alto, Stanley Mentink of Eureka, Wesley Mentink of San Jose, and Tommy Mentink and Victor Mentink Jr., both of Davis; his former wife, Janice Mentink, and one grandchild, Ashley Belcher of Woodland.
BARNETT
Ronald Fred Barnett
Ronald Fred Barnett died on Jan. 22, 2005, at Woodland Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 75.
Born Dec. 2, 1929, in Lebanon, Neb., to the late Fed and Mabel (Shewmake) Ebert, he served in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1946 to 1950. He owned his own business in Bullhead City, Ariz., as a home maintenance worker in the construction industry for 31 years. He resided in Madison for the last year.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lavonne Barnett, in 1958; brother, Delmar Ebert; and grandson, Robert John Barnett.
He is survived by his sons, Danny Barnett and his wife Sherrie of Madison, Robert Barnett and his wife Starr, and David Barnett, all of Crossville, Tenn.; a sister, Lavonna Barnhart of Newton, Kan.; and his brothers, John Whitford of Bullhead City, Ariz., Jim Whitford of Fairfield and Richard Whitford of Centennial, Colo.
He is further survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice in his memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.
BARR
Lorraine Kathleen (Hiatt) Barr
Lorraine Kathleen (Hiatt) Barr died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at age 84.
Born May 26, 1918, in Knights Landing, Mrs. Barr had been a Pollock Pines resident for 22 years. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1936.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Charles H. Barr; sons, John T. Glasgow and wife Sheila of Elk Grove, and Stephen B. Glasgow of Pinole; daughter, Linda Rouk and husband Tom of Auburn; brother-in-law, Carl L. Lindheimer of Columbia; sister-in-law, Marie Gravink of Woodland; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy Hiatt, Catherine Lehman Dozier; sister, Norval Lindheimer; and grandson, Michael Glasgow.
The family requests memorials be directed to American Cancer Society; or the American Lung Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Green Valley Mortuary.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, at Knutsson residence, 1408 West St., Woodland.
BARRETT
Beth Lockhart Barrett
Former Davis resident Beth Lockhart Barrett died Dec. 31, 2002, in Medford, Ore. Born on Dec. 11, 1917, in Ogden, Utah, to Oliver and Elizabeth Lockhart, she was 85 years old.
She attended Weber College in Ogden, Utah, Utah State University and Washington State University. On Jan. 1, 1942, she marriage Edward L. Barrett Jr. in Ogden, Utah. She was a homemaker and enjoyed genealogy. She and her husband moved from Davis to Medford, Ore., in 1992. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include her husband, Edward L. Barrett, Jr. of Medford, Ore.; daughter, Sue Lemmon of Salt Lake City, Utah; and sons, Douglas Barrett of Gardnerville, Nev., and Kent Barrett of Keokuk, Iowa. She is also survived by brother, Eldon Lockhart of Ogden, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Barrett.
A funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford First Ward, on Juanipero Way in Medford, Ore. Friends may pay their respects one hour prior to services at the church.

MERCADO
Vidal David "Tata" Mercado
Vidal David "Tata" Mercado died at his home in Woodland on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at age 77.
Mr. Mercado was born April 28, 1928 in Tenamaztlan, Jalisco, Mexico to Jose Mercado and Guadalupe M. Gomez. He had been a Yolo County resident for 55 years. He worked for the Woodland Garbage Company for 22 years.
Survivors include Mr. Mercado's wife of 55 years, Sally Mercado; his daughter, Lydia Cabrera and her husband Gilbert; his sons, Robert Mercado, Joseph Mercado and his wife Paulette and Gerald Mercado and his wife Cyndi; his grandchildren, David Barrigan, Aurora Joven, Damien, Vanessa, Omar and Christian Cabrera, Marissa, Nitysh, Camille, Anthony, Brianna and Daniel Mercado; six great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Esperanza and Dometila Mercado. He was preceded in death by his sons, David and Danny Mercado; his parents; and his sister, Elisa Mercado.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 20 at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A funeral will follow at 7 p.m. at McNary's. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21 at St. Joseph's Cemetery. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
MERCHANT
Ann Elena Merchant
Elena Merchant services held Tuesday
Memorial services for Ann Elena Merchant, 87, were held Tuesday morning in the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Winters.
Rev. John Reimers and Rev. Sue Fleenor officiated at the services.
Mrs. Merchant, a 65-year resident of Winters, died in a Sacramento hospital on January 13, 1984.
She and her husband owned a ranch in the Buckeye district, where they resided until ill health necessitated the move to Sacramento.
Survivors are her husband, George Elmer; daughters, Barbara Jean McMurray, Beverly Leggett and Carol Johnson; son, George E. Jr.; brothers, Harold and Leslie Waggoner; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any remembrances be made to Pioneer Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
BARMETTLER
Hubert Emil Barmettler
Hubert Emil Barmettler died Aug. 31, 2001, at the UC Davis Medical Center, after falling from a ladder while working on a job. Born in Hergisvil, Switzerland, on March 12, 1923, he was 78 years old.
He came from Switzerland to the United States at the age of 7, and worked on his family ranches in the Imperial Valley and Napa. He went to school in the Imperial Valley and Napa, and was a longtime student of the Theocratic Ministry School.
He worked for the Basalt Rock Co. in Napa for 20 years. In 1969 he moved to Montpelier, Idaho, and started Barmettler Construction with his four children. In 1989 he moved back to Woodland and began working with his sons in their construction business. He was well known as a gifted builder on a broad scope of projects.
He became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1947. He considered the ministry his true vocation. For 54 years he tirelessly spent his time preaching about the Bible, giving Bible sermons on a weekly basis and serving as a spiritual adviser to those in need.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Barmettler of Woodland; his brothers, Dr. Edmund Barmettler and his wife Sandy of Reno, Nev., and Lt. Col. Robert Barmettler and his wife Jeanne of Montgomery, Ala.; his sisters, Hildagard Buckette Graves of Elk, Johanna Black of Victoria Island, British Columbia, Canada, and Dr. Dorlesa Barmettler-Ewing of San Leandro; his children, Carole and Don Weins of Winters, Stephen and Kathy Barmettler of Lincoln, Demetrius and Paula Barmettler of Sacramento, Mark and Patricia Barmettler of Napa, Pat Church of Woodland and Geneva and John Bowen of Roseburg, Ore.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today at 5:30 p.m. at the Heidrick Ag History Center, 1962 Hays Lane in Woodland. Memorials may be sent to the Heidrick Ag History Center.
