Ralph “Rod” Cleland Scott, Jr.
"Rod" was born in Santiago, Chile, of American parents on Aug. 19, 1918. He spent his early years in Santiago and returned to the U.S. in 1925. He attended schools in Berkeley and graduated from University High School. After graduation, his love of the cowboy lifestyle led him to work on Nevada ranches.
With WWII looming, he joined the Army Air Corps and became a B-17 pilot. Shot down over Germany on his 8th mission, he was a POW for more than a year, and escaped twice. Tales of his wartime exploits awed his children and others throughout his life. Under the GI bill, he attended UC Davis Veterinary School and was a member of the first graduating class in 1952. While at UCD, he met and marriage his wife, Elaine. They settled in Woodland where Rod became a partner at the Yolo Veterinary Clinic for 27 years until his retirement in 1979. In retirement, he and Elaine traveled extensively, including several house exchanges in other countries.
He volunteered to help build needed facilities in a small village in Nicaragua. His many avocations included woodworking, stained glass, sculpture, gardening, photography and leather working. He was well known and loved for his engaging storytelling, his wit and humor, and his congenial spirit. Death occurred peacefully at home at age 87.
He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick, and sisters Helen Harman and Jean Coughlin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine; daughter Cindy and husband Alan of Corvallis, Ore.; son Eric and wife Debbie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister Sylvia Moore of Seattle, Wash.; grandson Matt, granddaughters Katie and Deanna, and great-granddaughter Alexa. Memorial service will be Monday, Feb. 6, 1 p.m., at St. John's Church, 434 Cleveland St. The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of their choice.

SCOTT
Walter E. Scott
Mr. Walter E. Scott, CM Sgt. USAF Retired, passed away at home in Dixon on December 26, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wenatchee, Washington on Oct. 17, 1932. He was 73.
Mr. Scott retired from the US Air Force in 1979 after 31 years of service to his country. He owned and operated the Dixon and Winters Travel Agency’s for 16 years finally closing the doors at the Dixon Agency in 2003 due to his illness. He loved to travel and had been all over the world. He also loved classical music, opera, stage plays and musicals. He liked working in the yard and home projects.
Mr. Scott belonged to several organizations including the Air Force Association, Air Force Sergeants Association (International President), Professional Loadmasters Association, Travis Air Museum. Aerospace Education Foundation (President and Chairman of the Board), Masonic Order (Athena Silveyville Lodge #201), Shriners (Afifi), Eastern Star (Golden Valley #60 - Davis Suisun #2 - Fairfield, National Sojourners, Inc. American Legion, He also served on SARB (School Attendance Review Board), Friends of Maine Prairie High School Faculty, and many other Civic organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca L., daughter Ruth Ann Scott Redmon, sons Walter E. Scott, Jr. and wife Hilda, and Robert Gordon Scott. brother Donald E. Scott, Three grandchildren, Stephen Robert Scott, Kenneth Ryan Scott, and Robert Edward Scott, and one great-granddaughter Shelby Scott. Walter will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family would prefer any contributions be made to Cancer Research or Heart Research.
A memorial service was held for Mr. Scott on Saturday, January 7, 2006, 1 p.m. at Dixon Community Church with Rev. Frank Salamone officiating. Inurnment will be at the VA National Cemetery, Dixon in June 2006.
SCHREINER
Joseph Daniel 'Danny' Schreiner
Joseph Daniel "Danny" Schreiner died in Knights Landing Saturday, March 20, 2004, at age 41.
Born April 25, 1962, a native of Woodland, Mr. Schreiner was a 1981 Woodland High School graduate. He attended Butte Junior College, and worked as a farmer in Sutter County for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Tracey Schreiner; daughter, Emily Schreiner; son, Keith Schreiner, all of Knights Landing; parents, Joe and Cleo Schreiner, also of Woodland; sisters, Beth Schreiner of Visalia, Joan Schreiner Abbott of Chico, and Anne Schreiner of Oakland.
The family requests memorials be directed to Robbins Elementary School, P.O. Box 237, Robbins, 95676; Robbins Fire Department, P.O. Box 68, Robbins; and to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: The rosary will be held Thursday, March 25, at 5 p.m. and the funeral will be Friday, March 26 at 10 a.m. both at Holy Rosary Church, Walnut Street in Woodland.
RAMOS
William E. Ramos
William E. Ramos passed away on Dec. 18, 2004. Born on Oct. 28, 1940, to Carmelo and Mary Ramos, he was 64 years old. Bill was a lifetime farmer in the Winters area, raising such tree crops as prunes, peaches, almonds and walnuts until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many falls hunting deer and elk in Southern Colorado with friends. He was a "crack" shot with both rifle and shotgun, spending much of his free time at Yolo Sportsman1s Association shooting trap and skeet. He was also a great fan of football as well as being an outstanding football player during his high school and junior college years at Winters and Yuba Jr. College in the late 1950s. Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his son, Jason; brothers Carl and Tom Ramos; sisters Lola Riolo and Ramona Marten; stepchildren, Shelley Pardi, Dawn Mayes, Shane McBurnett and Arnie McBurnett; numerous nieces and nephews and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, who passed away on Dec. 2, 2004, and by his parents. A visitation was held on Dec. 22, from 5-8 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, in Vacaville. Graveside services will be held for Bill at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2004 at the Winters Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association or to the Mary and Carmelo Ramos Scholarship Fund, c/o First Northern Bank, 48 Main Street, Winters, CA 95694. McCune Garden Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
RAMSEIER
Margaret Ramseier
Margaret Ramseier died March 14, 2001, after being hospitalized with pneumonia. Born Jan. 2, 1913, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Mildred and Frederick Ehlermann, she was 88.
At the University of Colorado in Boulder she met Wayne Ramseier and they were marriage March 3, 1945. They had one daughter, Carol.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband and her sister, Elizabeth Krall.
In 1964, Margaret and Carol moved to Davis. Margaret worked for UC Davis until 1981.
Throughout her life, music was her passion and, after retiring, she missed the contact with students and staff at UC Davis.
At her request, there will be no service. Davis Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
RANGEL
Frances Garcia Rangel
Frances Garcia Rangel died at Woodland Memorial Hospital on Monday, July 21, 2003, at age 81.
Born Oct. 4, 1921, in Douglas, Ariz., Mrs. Rangel was the daughter of the late Ramon and Domitila (Garcia) Rangel. She had been a Yolo County resident for 39 years. She worked for Contadina Cannery. She volunteered for Wayfarer Center, and past president of Hopes & Dreams. She was the public relations for Donnelly Circle.
Survivors include her sons, Anthony Rangel, Alfonso Rangel Jr. and Richard Rangel Sr., all of Woodland; daughter, Sandra Rangel-Casias of Woodland; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Torres, Joe Torres and Victor Rangel. The family requests memorials be directed to Frances Rangel Memorial Fund, Acct. No. 52409 at Yolo Federal Credit. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, July 25, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland, with a funeral service. Private interment is schedule at a later date.
RANSDELL
Catherine Lorraine (Frueh) Ransdell
Catherine Lorraine (Frueh) Ransdell died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at age 70.
Born April 12, 1931, in Maryville, Mo., Mrs. Ransdell was a long time resident of Woodland. She recently moved to Roseville.
Mrs. Ransdell is survived by her daughters, Jonette Griffith of Orangevale, and Lori MacDonald of Roseville; son, John L. Ransdell of Nortonville, Ky.; and grandchildren, Edward Griffith, 15, Richard Griffith, 12, Adam MacDonald, 9, and Camille MacDonald, 4.
She is also survived by her sisters, Maxine Ambrose of Springer, Okla., Berniece Schooler of Colorado Springs, Colo., Irene Meyer of Maryville, Mo., and Evelyn O'Riley of Graham, Mo.; brothers, Richard Frueh of Sheridan, Mo., Eugene Frueh of Maryville, Raymond Frueh of Pickering, Mo. and Bernard Frueh of Maryville, Mo.
Mrs. Ransdell was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, John Ransdell.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Valley Springs Presbyterian Church, 2401 Olympus Drive, Roseville.
