Jose F. Bueno, Sr.
Jose F. Bueno Sr. died in Woodland Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at age 88. Born March 25, 1915, in San Angelo, Texas, Mr. Bueno was the son of Lucio and Eugenia Bueno. He served in the U.S. Army Engineer Corp during World War II as a sergeant. He was a prisoner of war for six months in Germany. He received two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 77 and a life member of the American Disabled Veterans. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was employed by Southern Pacific for 30 years, Deseret Farms for three years and by the County of Yolo for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary A. Bueno of Woodland; son, Jose Bueno Jr. of Woodland; daughters, Mary Gene Rodriguez and husband Pedro of Woodland, Diana Rios of Dixon, Ofelia Garza and husband Fred of Sacramento, Lydia Azevedo and husband Ben, Cindy Isler and husband Tom of Madera, and Rosita Michel of Woodland; Godchildren, Jose Bueno III and Camaron Navaretti; sister, Lillian Navarro of Palermo; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Marlon Bueno; and daughter, Irene Bueno.
Arrangements are under the direction of McNary’s Chapel of Woodland.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at McNary’s Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19 at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
BUENTELLO
Ramiro Buentello
Ramiro Buentello died at his home in Woodland Sunday, May 1, 2005 at age 50.
Mr. Buentello was born Dec. 31, 1954 to Faustino and Ernestina Trevino Buentello in Mission, Texas. He was employed as a carpenter within the construction industry for more than 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Vitalina Buentello of Woodland; his daughters, Maxine Black of Hanford, Cindy, Ruby and Denise Buentello and his son, Valentine Buentello, all of Woodland; five grandchildren; his mother, Ernestina Buentello of Mission, Texas; his sisters, Gloria Rios of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Arcelia Rosales of Dallas, Sylvia Cordero of Brownsville, Texas, Estella Lopez of La Joya, Texas and Irene Mercado of Mission, Texas; his brothers, Ruben Buentello of Mission, Texas, Roberto Buentello of Edinburg, Texas and Rojelio Buentello of Mississippi and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Faustino Buentello.
Services: A vigil will be held at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, May 5 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, on Sacramento Street in Yolo. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday, May 6 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. Interment will follow the service at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
BULLOCH
Stella Beatrice (Schwarz) Bulloch
Stella Beatrice (Schwarz) Bulloch died in Woodland’s Palm Gardens Residential Care Facility Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at age 99.
Born Nov. 13, 1903, at Clipper Gap, Mrs. Bulloch had been a Yolo County resident for the past 53 years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Flood and Caroline Estella (Hallicker) Schwarz. Her first employment was with the Wearever Company in Oakland. In 1949, she and her husband moved to Yolo County to operate Madison General Store, in partnership with her brother, Clifford Schwarz. They sold the business in 1956 and Mrs. Bulloch went to work for First American Title Company, retiring in 1965. She had been an active member of First Baptist Church of Woodland since 1949.
Mrs. Bulloch is survived by her nieces, Sharon L. Steele of Granite Bay and Theresa A. Richards of Amherst, Mass.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, W. Grant Bulloch; sister, Gladyes Schwarz Stewart; and brother, Clifford Schwarz.
Family members and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland, with Pastor Mel Beals officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Monument Hill Memorial Park.

BUNFILL
Darlene Marie Bunfill
Darlene Marie Bunfill, a 37-year resident of Davis, died July 30, 2005, at Sutter Davis Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 58.
She was born in Oroville on April 20, 1947. Her family describes her as a person who loved life and was very devoted to her family. She will be missed by all who knew her, they said.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert A. Bunfill of El Macero; her children, Kevin Bunfill and Madeline White, both of Davis; and her grandchildren, Alexandria White, Bryce White, Jacqueline White and Maggie White, all of Davis.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral at noon Friday at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. in Davis. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
MIKKELSEN
Duane S. Mikkelsen
Duane S. Mikkelsen died Nov. 13, 2004, at his Davis home after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He was 83.
A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 785 Elmwood Drive in Davis.
Born Nov. 1, 1921, he grew up in Provo, Utah, graduating from Brigham Young University. After serving in the Pacific as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he resumed his education at Rutgers University, receiving a doctorate degree in soil science.
He joined the faculty in the agronomy department at UC Davis in 1949 where he spent his professional career, retiring as a full professor after nearly 40 years of service. A keen desire to help farmers solve practical problems was a strong motivation in all his professional endeavors worldwide. He published hundred of articles relating to his particular interest, rice production and the chemistry of flooded soils.
He organized and served as the first president of the California Chapter of the American Society of Agronomy and was active in conducting research and teaching their practical application to farmers in California and throughout the world.
He conducted research and advised on agricultural problems in numerous developing countries, including Egypt, the Philippines, China, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Brazil, receiving many national and international awards in recognition of his work. He was a major professor to more than 100 master's and doctorate students.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving twice as bishop of the Davis Ward, providing leadership and counseling to hundreds of members.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; his daughter, Marcia Murphy of Williamsburg, Va.; three sons, D. Craig Mikkelsen of Canby, Ore., Kent Mikkelsen, who resides near Washington, D.C., and Robert Mikkelsen of Davis; his sister, Alice Anderson of Orem, Utah; and a brother, Mont Mikkelsen of Layton, Utah.
He is further survived by 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Citizens Who Care or Yolo Hospice.
MILES
Samuel Paul Miles
Samuel Paul Miles died in his Woodland home Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at age 48.
Born June 29, 1954, in The Dallas, Ore., Mr. Miles had been a resident of Woodland for the past five years and previously had resided in Orland for 34 years. He was the son of the late Sara Loretta (Watenberger) Miles.
According to his family, "he was a uniquely talented and very special person. He will be loved always and missed greatly by family and friends."
He had served with the 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejuene, North Carolina, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Rifle Expert Badge and t he USMC Good Conduct Medal before his discharge in 1974. Presentation of Military Honors will be conducted at the conclusion of his funeral service.
Mr. Miles is survived by his wife of 26 years, Becky (Phelps) Miles and son, Jacob Aaron Miles of Woodland; daughter, Sara Rachel Miles and fiancé David Gambrel of Modesto; granddaughters, Hannah Miles and Abigail Gambrel, also of Modesto; brother, Jim Miles and wife Penney; and nephew, Bobby Miles, all of Beaverton, Ore.
Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, at Kraft Bros. Funeral Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A funeral service is scheduled at the chapel, at 4 p.m. the same day with Pastor Steve Elwood of Oregon, officiating. Private interment will be scheduled at a later date.

MILLER
Charles R. ('Dick") Miller (1st of 2 obits.)
Charles R. ('Dick") Miller died on Aug. 18, 2004, at age 79. He was born on April 25, 1925, and was raised in Davis.
He graduated from Davis High School in 1943 and spent his working career in the agricultural engineering department at UC Davis.
His father had been the volunteer fire chief in Davis who also ran a small electrical repair and appliance store.
Miller most recently lived in Carmichael. He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Miller, and a sister, Helen Olmo.
He will be interred at the Davis Cemetery. At his request, no services will be held.
Charles Richard "Dick" Miller (2nd of 2 obits.)
Charles Richard "Dick" Miller died peacefully at his home on Aug. 18, 2004. He was 79.
Born April 25, 1925, he was born on the UC Davis campus on Picnic Day.
He was employed by UC Davis in the agricultural engineering department, and was a volunteer in the Davis Fire Department. He was the original owner and operator of the Davis Answering Service.
He was a resident of Davis until his second marriage in 1970, when he moved to Woodland.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Laurella "Lu" Alderson Miller, and his sister, Helen Frances (Miller) Olmo.
He is survived by his son, Charles Edward Miller of Nehalem, Ore.; daughters, Linda Ogner of Woodland and Rita Miller of West Sacramento; grandchildren, Margaret Gedeon and her husband John of San Diego, Blair Francisco and Emily Francisco of Sacramento; great-granddaughter Hannah Gedeon of San Diego; and several nieces and nephews.
He is further survived by his brother, John D. "Jack" Miller III of Davis.
Respecting his wishes, no services will be held. He will be interned with his parents at the Davis Cemetery.
