Carl Duane Teuscher
Carl Duane Teuscher died at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 at age 73.
Mr. Teuscher was born May 15, 1931 in Twin Falls, Idaho and had been a Yolo County resident for 69 years. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1950 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S. Boxer from 1951 to 1955. He was also a life member of Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 1299 in Woodland.
Survivors include Mr. Teuscher's wife of 51 years, Loretta Teuscher of Woodland, his daughters, Sandy Sevall of Kingman, Ariz. and Sara Martinez of Woodland; his sons, Scott Teuscher and his wife Melissa, Samuel Teuscher, and Stuart Teuscher and his girlfriend Keli Garcia, all of Woodland; his grandchildren, David Martinez, Amber and Kristina Sevall, Kaylee, Bradley, Spencer, Jack, Dakota and Alyssa Teuscher, Tessa Teuscher-Montoya, Amy, Samantha and Danielle "Sissy" Murray and Andrew Tayborne, his great-grandchildren Trinity and Jaiden Wendland and Paige Booth and his sister LaNeve Ochoa and her husband Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl A. and Pearl Teuscher.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Teuscher's name be directed to the charity of donor's choice.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mr. Teuscher no services are scheduled. A private interment will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
THEILE
Carl Frederick Theile, Sr.
Carl Frederick Theile Sr. was surrounded by his family when he died peacefully on Feb. 1, 2004, at his Woodland home of complications from a long illness. Born Nov. 28, 1915, in Oakland, he was 88 years old.
Theile served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he dedicated his life to fire service.
He got his first taste of firefighting as a Boy Scout during the 1925 Berkeley fire. At the age of 16, he joined the Castro Valley Volunteer Fire Department while still a student at Hayward Union High School. He spent the next 50-plus years as a firefighter, with the last 25 years of his career as chief of Springlake Fire Department in Woodland. He retired in 1981.
He was a resident of Yolo County for 46 years.
Theile was an inventor and invented several pieces of fire equipment and became nationally known for his invention of the tilting training tower. The training tower became a well-known tool for training firefighters across the United States and Taiwan.
He spent 15 years as deputy fire marshal and belonged to numerous firefighting organizations. He was also an active member of Disabled American Veterans Post 131. He was an avid writer and authored many articles that were published in several professional magazines.
In addition to writing professionally, Theile also loved to write as a hobby. The witty, humorous and beautiful stories he wrote for and about his family, his history, his experiences, his grandchildren and his joys in life will be treasured forever, his family said.
He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Theile of Woodland; his son, Carl F. Theile Jr. and his wife Rose of Livermore; his daughter, Dottie Garrison and her husband Bill of West Plains, Mo.; two brothers, Ross Theile and his wife Pat of Modesto and Lloyd Thiele of Fremont; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many friends and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Theile and Robert L. Pease; a brother, Edward Theile Jr.; a sister, Emelie Foust; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Woodland Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland. A reception following the services will be held at the John Rogers Hall at the Yolo County Fairgrounds on Gum Avenue in Woodland.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Davis, 1620 Anderson Road. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.
THIERS
Alberta E.M. Thiers
Alberta E.M. Thiers died at her home in Santa Rosa Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at age 96.
Mrs. Thiers was born Feb. 21, 1908 in Shiner, Texas. She had her own catering business in Woodland for several years and was Past Madame President of the Eagles Auxiliary of Woodland. She was a 90-year member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Woodland.
Survivors include Mrs. Thiers' daughters, Barbara Ruff and her husband John of Santa Rosa, Bonnie Scheffler and her husband Waldie of Santa Rosa and Ramona Rich of Reedsport, Ore.; her son, Gerald Thiers and his wife Rosalee of Seaside, Ore.; her grandchildren, Spencer and Derek Wallace, Dinah Farrington, Naomi and Paul Thiers, Brenda Ruff, Peggy and Bill Scheffler; her great-grandchildren, Deborah and Matthew Farrington, Susanna Lui, Callen and Elizabeth Scheffler, Amiee and Ariana Wallace and Morgan Thiers; her sisters, Elorine Matson and Betsy Baccei, both of Woodland; her sisters-in-law, Etta Marks, Alpha Huebert and Ida Wedin and her brother-in-law, Frank Heard. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Henry "Curly" Thiers and her son-in-law, Gary Wallace.

Services: A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Woodland.
THIGPEN
Lacy Thigpen
Lacy Thigpen passed away on July 7, 2003 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Born on Jan. 15, 1915 in Mississippi, he was 88 years old.
As a child, Lacy became a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Heidelberg, Mississippi. He left Heidelberg as a young man and enlisted in the United States Army, ultimately attaining the rank of corporal. He served in World War II in Australia and Papua, New Guinea and later in Korea during that conflict.
He worked for the Southern Pacific railroad company in Nevada where he learned to hunt deer with native American Indians. He also worked various jobs in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Lacy arrived in Winters around 1963 and did orchard farm work for Walter Turkovich and Anthony Lopina. He worked with apricots, peaches, prunes, almonds and walnuts. He was known as an accomplished storyteller and would pass the time telling friends of his past exploits. When he first came to the farm, he didn't own a wristwatch, so instead carried a large bedroom clock in his bib overalls. The kids working in the apricot cutting shed enjoyed asking Lacy for the time, just to watch him pull out the big clock.
Around 1974 he became the full-time foreman at the Lopina prune ranch and also helped out with the Lopina family pear harvest in the Suisun Valley. He always gave his dogs the same name, "Bookie." He was a hard worker, generous, courteous and well-liked. He lived on the farm until his retirement in 1994.
He moved to Ellisville, Mississippi to be with his niece Annie Joyce Kelly. There, he continued to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes, fishing. He was known to most people there as "Uncle Lacy." He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends, both here and in Mississippi. Services were held on July 11, 2003 at the Chapel of angels Funeral Home in Laurel, Mississippi.
THOMAS
Eula Virena McIntyre Thomas
Virena was born June 29, 1920 in Oden, Ark., the first child of Pearl and Hamp Huddleston. She died Dec. 20, 2004 in Woodland surrounded by her loving family.
Virena grew up on a farm in Arkansas, moved to Live Oak, Calif. in 1955 to be near her family and care for her first husband, William Orvin McIntyre. After his death, in 1955 Virena put herself through school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was a dedicated and caring nurse throughout her 25 year career working at Rideout Hospital in Marysville and Fremont Hospital in Yuba City.
Virena marriage Marvin Lee Thomas in 1960 and they were marriage for more than 25 years before his death.
Virena had a strong spirit and an easy laugh and was much loved by all that knew her. She is survived by her son Charles McIntyre, her daughter Judy Howard, and her son Michael Thomas. She is also leaving a loving sister, Ann Hurlbut, and aunt Mellora Padgett, and their respective families. Virena is survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband William Orvin McIntyre, her second husband Marvin Lee Thomas, her mother Pearl Huddleston, father Hamp Huddleston, her brother Jerry Huddleston, and her brother Rex Huddleston.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kraft Brothers Funeral Home in Woodland, phone: 662-4658. Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services at Live Oak Cemetery in Live Oak. Thursday, Dec. 23 at 1 p.m.
THOMAS
Gene Thomas
Gene Thomas died Sept. 19, 2001, at his home in West Sacramento after a long illness. Born on Feb. 10, 1931, in McCrory, Ark., he was 70 years old. He was a resident of West Sacramento for 18 years. His prior residences were in Dixon, Fairfield and Davis.
Thomas graduated from high school in McCrory in 1948. He attended Henderson College in Arkadelphia, Ark., for two years. College was interrupted when he enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served in the Korean conflict as an Aerographer on a troop ship. After his discharge, he continued in the naval reserves for 22 years, retiring as a commander. In 1955, he returned to Arkansas A&M in Monticello, Ark., and received a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1957.
From 1957 to 1991 he was a teacher, football coach and principal of high school and elementary schools in both Dixon and Fairfield. While coaching in Dixon, he had an undefeated football season in 1963, a feat he was very proud to have accomplished. In 1989, while principal of Tolenas Elementary in Fairfield, the school received the California Distinguished School award. He was dedicated to education, and although he retired as a principal in 1991, he continued to substitute until his illness. He was loved and appreciated by students and teachers, as well as fellow administrators.
His love of boating was well-known. He was a longtime member of the Northern California Power Cruiser Association and served as vice commodore and commodore in that organization. He was also commodore of both Spindrift and Delta Marina yacht clubs on the Sacramento Delta. He was a member of the Dixon Lions Club for many years and served as president in 1966. During the early 1980s he volunteered as head coach for the Solano County Pig Bowls, enjoying his association with the Department of Public Safety.
After retiring in 1991, he enjoyed traveling with his wife from coast to coast in their RV. He also loved playing golf and was a staunch fan of the San Diego Chargers, staying at an RV park for the entire football season to attend the games of his favorite team.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Thomas of Arkansas and Billy Mack Thomas of Tennessee.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nadine; his daughter Alana Thomas and her fiance Karl Kamper of Sacramento; son Michael Thomas of Davis; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Elizabeth Thomas of Vacaville and two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Ellen Thomas of Vacaville. He also leaves behind his sisters Wade Holder and Ruby Sanders of Arkansas; his brothers James Thomas of Arkansas, Van and Vance Thomas of Texas and many friends.
A private, family service will be at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento or to the Yolo County Hospice in Davis.
THOMAS
Huston Eugene Thomas
Huston Eugene Thomas died in Alderson's Convalescent Hospital, Woodland, on Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at age 89.
Born on Feb. 18, 1914 in Dover, Kan., Mr. Huston had been a Yolo County resident for 58 years, and worked at the Contadina Cannery for 34 years as a supervising mechanic before retiring.
Survivors include his wife Ova Mae (Jones) Thomas; son, Harold Thomas of Woodland; daughter, Shirley Henson of Houston, Texas; grandsons, Greg Thomas and wife Jennifer of El Dorado Hills, David Henson of Ohio; granddaughter, Traci Henson of Texas; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Lucille Botts of Oklahoma. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
The family requests memories be directed ot the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 29, at Woodland Cemetery.
