Paul C. Thompson
Paul C. Thompson died in Sacramento unexpectedly following a heart attack Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at age 45.
Mr. Thompson was an emergency medical technician/paramedic for over 20 years in Northern California. He was responsible for saving countless lives. He also served as a potent force in employee advocacy for the American Medical Response (AMR) union members of Local 250 and played an essential role in educating the next generation of paramedics. "Paul Thompson was a warm, dedicated, and kind-hearted person who cared deeply about his friends, family and those he saved every day on the job. He has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him and will be greatly missed, " stated Doug Petrick, Director of Operations for AMR.
He began his career as an emergency medical technician in 1982 and became an EMT-II in 1987 working for Bi-County Ambulance. In 1989, he became a Paramedic and began working for Davis Ambulance, now named AMR. After graduating from McKinleyville High School in 1975, he served in the U.S. Air Force for six years. He then worked for The Army National Guard for several y ears.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his children, Sabrina, Angela and James.
A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. today, Friday, at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 4148 Madison Ave. near Hillsdale in Sacramento County.
He will be honored through a special burial procession with ambulances, fire engines, and a helicopter along with many emergency service workers in attendance.
THOMSEN
Wanita V. Thomsen
Wanita V. Thomsen died at Alderson Convalescent Hospital, Woodland Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at age 77.
Born Aug. 5, 1925, in Bisbee, Ariz., Mrs. Thomsen had been a Yolo County resident for 15 years.
Survivors include her sons, Austin Norman of Colton, Daniel Hunsucker of Zamora, Terry Hunsucker of Fontana, and David Hunsucker of New Castle, Wyo.; daughter, Pamela Prentice of Zamora; sister, Irene Montez of Zamora; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled at 12:30 Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Calvary Chapel of Woodland. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Riverside.
THOMSON
Barbara M. Thomson
Barbara May Thomson died Sept. 23, 2001, in the Alderson's Convalescent Facility in Woodland. Born in Marysville on May 16, 1916, to the late Alec and Lillian Woods, she was 85 years old.
She was a resident of Yolo County for 83 years. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the Winters Garden Club, Beaus and Belles Square Dance group and the Woodland Organ Club. She was a lifetime member of the Senior Club and a member of the Senior Center Reno Club.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold Thomson of Woodland; her son, Tom Thomson and his wife Claire of Fresno; her grandchildren, Lori Lamphere and her husband Mark of Clovis, Gordon Thomson and his wife Brenda of Paradise, Matt Thomson and his wife Lucy of Columbus, Ohio, Virginia Orr of Livermore and Catherine Picard of Santa Rosa; her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Sean, Shelby, Jonathan, Justin, Danielle and Jacob; and her sister, Lillian Pudy of San Jose.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Thomson.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St. in Woodland, with interment to follow at Monument Memorial Park. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
THORBURN
Marjorie M. Thorburn
Marjorie M. Thorburn died at Woodland Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003.
Born in E. Burnaby, B.C., Canada, Mrs. Thorburn had been a Yolo County resident for 42 years.
Survivors include her husband, William Thorburn of Woodland; sister-in-law, Margaret Parker and husband Larry, also of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: A private family service is scheduled.
THORN
Margaret (Gable) Thorn
Margaret Gable Thorn passed away on Jan. 5, 2006 in Woodland. Mrs. Thorn was 95. Born on Dec. 11, 1910, she was the daughter of Hayes Harvey Gable and Frances Farish Gable of the Diamond G Ranch in Hungry Hollow (now home of the R.H. Phillips Winery). A member of a pioneering Yolo County family, Mrs. Thorn's grandfather, Amos Gable, built the Gable Mansion located on the northeast corner of First and Cross streets in Woodland. The home is now owned by Starr and Jeff Barrow, and is an historical monument.
From the Diamond G Ranch, Mrs. Thorn and her siblings rode their ponies, Dot and Dash, to Fairview School before attending and graduating from Esparto High School. Mrs. Thorn later graduated with a B.A. degree from Mills College in the Bay Area. She then taught elementary school in Zamora, Esparto and at Canyon School in Capay Valley. In 1952, Mrs. Thorn began work at Cal-Western Life Insurance Co. as an accountant in the Group Health Claims Dept. and later advanced to Group Claims Examiner where she remained as such until retirement in 1976.
Upon retirement, Mrs. Thorn found a new life as an artist, excelling in her studies with area artist James Estey. Her paintings have won several awards and are cherished by her family. In addition to her art work, Mrs. Thorn enjoyed traveling to many destinations around the world, including Fiji, Tahiti and South America. Her last trip, at age 76, was highlighted by a mule ride to the top of Machu Picchu in Peru.
Mrs. Thorn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hayes Gable, Jr., and sister Kathryn Gable Gordon, as well as her niece, Sara Gordon Carr. She is survived by sister-in-law Margaret Lovdal Gable of West Sacramento, nieces Rebecca Gordon Jenness of Woodland, Kennalee Gable of West Sacramento, Georgiana Gable Gordon of Yankton, Oregon, Kathryn Gordon Griffin of Arbuckle, and nephews Charles Milford Gordon of Capay Valley, and Hayes Harvey Gable III of Roseville. She is also survived by 12 grand nieces and nephews and 10 great-grand nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Mrs. Thorn's wishes, there will be no services. The family requests remembrances to St. John's Retirement Village/Stollwood, 135 Woodland Avenue, Woodland, 95695.
THORNBURG
Johnnie C. Thornburg
Johnnie C. Thornburg died in Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at age 83.
Born July 17, 1919, in Turlock, Mr. Thornburg was son of Glen and Lula (Borden) Thornburg. At an early age he worked on the family farm and was an all around athlete in high school, participating in Track and Field and shot put, breaking several school records at Turlock High School. He was also involved in baseball, as pitcher and basketball as well as football, alternating between fullback and blocking halfback. He was nicknamed the "Accordion Boy" because his girlfriend, who would later become his wife played the accordion.
In 1940, Mr. Thornburg went to UC Davis and was the first freshman to play varsity football. In the spring of 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force and served in the Pacific Theater as a Staff Sergeant and mechanic crew chief for P 38 & P51's. In 1945, Mr. Thornburg was included in the first fighter group to land on Iwo Jima.
In October 1946, after serving 42 months of service Mr. Thornburg came to Woodland, where his family had relocated. He participated with his father and brother in the family farm and dairy business before retiring from farming to become a butcher in Dixon until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Thornburg became a member of the Turlock Masonic Lodge in the 1950s and later became a member of Ben Ali, participating in the clown unit, where he was known as "Blue." He was also a member of the Bedouins RV Group and enjoyed traveling several weeks a year. He was very active in his children's sports as they went through school, being a baseball coach for the two boys and teaching his daughter also how to play the game.
He is survived by his wife, Urma-Gayl "Bobbi" Thornburg of Woodland; children, Michal Thornburg of Woodland, Greg Thornburg and wife Phyllis of Vernonia, Ore. and daughter Glenda Zafra and her husband Richard of Woodland; sister, La Verne Stage of Fresno; grandchildren, Regina Valdez and Jessica Thornburg of Vernonia, Ore., Christopher Kinser and wife Tara of Layton, Utah, Timothy Kinser and wife Angel of Woodland and Daniel Zafra of Woodland; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Thornburg was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merle Thornburg; and great-granddaughter, Cameron Reese Kinser.
Friends are invited to attend the graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
The family requests memorials be directed to Shriners Children's Hospital.

THULIN
Judy Marie (Fessel) Thulin
Judy Marie (Fessel) Thulin of Sacramento died at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento Monday, Jan. 24, 2005 at age 52.
Mrs. Thulin was born July 7, 1952 in New Albany, Ind. She had been a Yolo County resident for 21 years and a Sacramento County resident for the past 20 years. She attended Holy Rosary Elementary School, a year at St. Francis High School and three years at Woodland High School.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Thulin; her daughters, Amy Michele Younger, Heather Nicole Younger and Sara Melissa Younger, all of Sacramento; her granddaughter, Samantha; her grandsons, Jaykob and Max; her stepdaughter, Ashley Thulin; her stepson, Ian Thulin; her father, Glenn Fessel and his wife Lucille and her sisters, Susan Lopez of Litchfield Park, Ariz., Mary Kelly of San Diego and Theresa Vaughn of Kaiserslautern, Germany. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Fessel.
