Mr. Lloyd was a native of Berksville, Adair county, Kentucky, and was born on the 1st of February, 1836. He was therefore 72 years and 16 days old. He was the youngest of a family of sixteen children. All his surviving brothers and sisters are residents of either Kentucky or Illinois.
When he was but 8 years of age his parents removed to Springfield, Illinois, where he resided for 15 years.
On the 20th of March, 1859, Mr. Lloyd joined a party en route to California. He traveled by ox team and was six months in crossing the plains. On the 2?th of September, of the same year, he arrived in Susanville, Lassen county, where he remained until the following spring.
He next removed to Colusa county, where for a time he was a partner with his brother, Turner Johnson Lloyd, in the stock business. Later he, with George W. Packard, engaged in farming on an extensive scale.
For twenty years he operated in Colusa and Tehama Counties, and was quite active in farming and stock raising. In 1888 he removed to Oregon, where he continued in agricultural pursuits for five years. He arrived in Yolo County on the 7th of November, 1893, and located in Capay Valley, near Rumsey where he continued to reside until his death. He engaged in farming and fruit growing for some time, but during his last years he gave up the activities and responsibilities of a busy life and lived quietly and contentedly with his two sons.
Mr. Lloyd was marriage to Miss Katie Rantz in Marysville on the 27th of September, 1866. It proved to be a very happy union and their domestic relations were close, confiding and affectionate until the wife and mother died in Capay valley about five years ago.
Four children were born to them. The oldest, Fannie, [should be Hattie] is the wife of Charles Stone of Rumsey. The second, Lottie, died in infancy in 1871. Ben and George Lloyd, the two sons, are well known and highly respected residents of Capay Valley.
