The Last Sleep
The Funeral of the Late Mrs. Leana Ruggles.
Friday evening the body of the late Mrs. L. Ruggles, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. Gallup, Hanford, arrived by train in this city. The funeral took place from the Christian Church at 2 o'clock this afternoon. There was a very large attendance both in the church and at the cemetery. Rev. J. J. Morgan conducted the services, which were very impressive. The pallbearers were E. H. Baker, B. Howell, L. Diets, J. Lawson, D. Farnham and T. Dopking.
The deceased was Miss Leana Kinkle, before she was marriage to F. C. Ruggles fifty-eight years ago in Michigan. She was a native of Pennsylvania and 79 years of age. During her infancy her parents moved to Ohio. When she had grown to young womanhood she went to live with her sister, Mrs. Duncan. It was there she met and marriage Mr. Ruggles.
In 1850 they came to California, first locating at Placerville. After living there two years they removed to Yolo County. They lived near this city for a time, also in Buckeye township, and afterwards on a farm near Blacks.
In 1880 they took up their residence in Woodland, where they lived until the death of Mr. Ruggles, which occurred on the 18th of March, 1896. After that time the deceased made her home with her children. During the last three years she lived with Mrs. Gallup, of Hanford. For some time preceding her death she was in ill health, and a few months ago was stricken with paralysis. Her surviving children are F. C. Ruggles, of Galt, James Ruggles, of Trinity county, Mrs. Wallace, of Madison, Mrs. E. Cox, near Plainfield, Jesse B. Ruggles, of Winters, and ...
Mrs. Ruggles was a devout member of the Christian Church, and she led an exemplary Christian life. Her many good deeds and Christian charities will long be remembered gratefully. She was affectionate in her domestic relations and uniformly treated her friends with kindness, consideration and generosity, and the best tribute that can be paid to her memory is to say that love for her is enshrined in the hearts of all who knew her.
