Thomas Ruggiero
Thomas Ruggiero died following an extended illness Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at age 84.
Born March 26, 1918, in New Haven, Conn., Mr. Ruggiero had been a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Woodland and Sacramento for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Army Engineering Corps and was a veteran of World War II. After his service, he became an engineering draftsman and worked for various companies and governmental agencies including the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Aerojet-General in Sacramento, General Electric in San Jose and as a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy in San Francisco and the Sacramento Army Depot. After his retirement, he worked for two years as a custodian at Holy Rosary School.
Mr. Ruggiero is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Ruggiero; sons, Frank Ruggiero and wife Amy of Issaquah, Wash., Stephen Ruggiero and wife Janet of Woodland, Michael Ruggiero and wife Patty of Santa Cruz; and daughter, Carmel John of San Jose.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Ruggiero and wife Meridy of Seattle, Jennifer Ruggiero of Seattle, Mark, Matthew, Barbara, and Joseph Ruggiero of Woodland, Elizabeth and David John of San Jose, and Daniel and Erin of Santa Cruz; and great-grandchildren, Josh and Zoe of Santa Cruz.
Mr. Ruggiero was preceded in death by his parents, Francesco and Carmela Ruggiero; and brothers, Anthony Ruggiero of New Jersey and Joseph Ruggiero of Pennsylvania.
A memorial service is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland.
Respecting the wishes of Mr. Ruggiero, his ashes will be scattered in the rural setting of the Northern California coastal town of Tomales.
The family requests memorials be directed to local library; or the charity of the donor's choice.

RUIZ
Louie Jordan Ruiz
Louie Jordan Ruiz died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 in his Woodland home at the age of 81.
Mr. Ruiz was born in El Paso, TX to Pedro and Belen (Jordan) Ruiz on Feb. 28, 1922. He had been a resident of Woodland for 44 years.
Mr. Ruiz was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific during the battles of Tarawa, Saipan, Guam and the Gilbert Islands. He was with the Second Marine Division and was awarded the presidential Unit Citation, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Victory Medal, the Sharpshooter Medal and the Good Conduct medal. After his discharge he met and marriage Mary Leyba Ruiz in Denver in 1945. Mr. Ruiz moved to Woodland in 1959 where he worked for Spreckels Sugar Company. He later owned and operated Louis Ruiz Trucking Co. in Woodland.
Mr. Ruiz is survived by his wife Mary Ruiz; his daughters, Louise Durgin and husband Bill, Belinda Gomez and husband Robert, Juanita Ruiz, Gerri Ruiz, Rebecca Marquez and Belle Lopez and husband Ricky, and sons, Louis Ruiz and wife Josie and Robert Ruiz and wife Maureen, all of Woodland.
Also surviving Mr. Ruiz is his sister Soledad Cordova of Los Angeles and 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ruiz was preceded in death by his brothers, Pete Ruiz, Jose Ruiz, Jesus Ruiz, Albert Ruiz and his daughter Belen Ruiz and also by his sisters Lola Sanchez and Socorro Trujillo.
Services: A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland with services to be conducted by Deacon Ed Kull. A burial will immediately follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22 where military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.

RUIZ
María Elena 'Nená' Ruiz
María Elená "Nena" Ruiz died in UC Davis Medical Center Sunday, June 27, 2004, at age 41.
Born Oct. 7, 1962, in Purépero, Michoacán, México, she had been a 41-year Woodland resident. She was a 1981 Woodland High School graduate. She was employed in the Tercero Dining Commons at UC Davis.
Survivors include her son, Héctor Ruiz; parents, Rafael and Guadalupe (Reyes) Ruiz, all of Woodland. Also surviving are her sisters, Lupe Lepe and husband Enrique of Madison, Rosario Dark and husband Christopher, Teresa Ruiz; brothers, Sergio Ruiz and wife María, Rafael Ruiz Jr. and wife Alejandra, all of Woodland; nieces, Ariana, Lisset and Jazmin Lepe, Angélica and Veronica Dark, and Cecilia Ruiz; and nephew, Ismael Ruiz.
McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at McNary's Chapel. A rosary is scheduled to be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A Mass is scheduled to be said at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
RUMBAUGH
Charles Lenord Rumbaugh
Charles Lenord Rumbaugh died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at age 73.
Born Sept. 26, 1930, in Pleasantville, Pa., Mr. Rumbaugh had been a Yolo County resident for the last six years. He spent four years in U.S. Air Force where was involved with microwave installation across France. For 40 years he was a machinist and parts coordinator, retiring from Rockwell International where he worked on the space shuttle program for NASA.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Rumbaugh of Woodland; daughter, Gaye David of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Eric and Carl David of Garland, Texas; stepchildren, Doreen Job of Anaheim, Michael Lugo of W. Sacramento, Toni Lugao of Parker, Colo., Rita Lugo-Irungo of Rochester Mn.; sister, Marion McNett of Santa Ana; brothers, Jimmy, Harry, Clarence and Larry Rumbaugh of Pleasantville, Pa.; and numerous step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Georgia Rumbaugh; and brother, George Rumbaugh.
The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside.
RUPE
Joshua Paul Rupe
Joshua Paul Rupe died in Woodland Friday, July 26, 2002, at age 18.
Born June 7, 1984, in Redding, Joshua attended school in Davis, Woodland, Lincoln and went to San Juan High School in Citrus Heights and graduated from El Sereno High School in 2002. He was employed by Westates for the past few months.
Joshua is survived by his sisters, Nicole Ramsey of Chico and Melissa Rupe who is serving in the Army at Ft. Lee, Va.; and grandparents, Alfred and Alice Garcia and Mary McClean, all of Woodland.
He is also survived by his nephew, Daniel Ramsey; and numerous aunts; uncles and cousins, of Woodland, Sacramento, Citrus Heights, Davis and the surrounding area.
Joshua was preceded in death by his mother, Natelie Garcia, in 1985.
A vigil service is scheduled at 8 p.m. today Thursday, Aug. 1, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland.
The funeral Mass is scheduled to be said at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2, also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

RUSSELL
Michael (Leo) Kevin Russell
Michael Kevin Russell died in Sacramento Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 at the age of 19.
Mr. Russell was born Oct. 1, 1984 in Porterville and had been a resident of Madison for the past two years. He was a student at Woodland Adult Education and planned to go into the United States Marine Corps upon his graduation.
Survivors include Mr. Russell's mother Felecita Velasquez, stepfather Steve Velasquez, sister Maricela Russell, niece Isis Harmon, nephew Kevin Harmon, grandfather Andre Valdez, grandmother Valdez, five uncles and five aunts.
Services: A funeral is scheduled for noon today, Friday, at El Sendero Del La Cruz Assemblies of God Church, 8275 Florin Road, Sacramento.
WARD
Norma L. Ward
Norma L. Ward died at Stollwood Convalescent Home in Woodland on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at age 85.
Mrs. Ward was born Sept. 18, 1920 in Mandan, N.D. She had been a Yolo County resident for 56 years. She was a high school graduate and worked for 23 years for the County of Yolo.
Survivors include Mrs. Ward's sons, David and Richard Ward; her grandchildren, Chris, Jedd, Caitlyn and Casey Ward, Kathleen Santiago, Emiley Simpson, Patrick Hague and Karen Holmes; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ed Daffinrude and his wife Rebecca. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William E. Ward and her sister, Marion Hayworth.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Ward's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
