Clemente Amaya Ramirez
Clemente Amaya Ramirez died at Courtyard Healthcare in Davis on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at age 92.
He was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico, to C. Saturnino and Hilaria (Maya) Ramirez, who predecease him. When Clemente was 2 years old, devastated by war, the Ramirez family decided to leave Mexico, crossing the river into a new land, never to return.
Mr. Clemente worked most of his life as a migrant farm worker, traveling throughout California and as far as Washington state. In 1937, he settled in Yolo County and raised his family, living in places like Capay, Knights Landing, Zamora and lastly Woodland. He worked in the sugar beets, almond, prune and apricot orchards and ran tractors in the tomato fields. Some of his former employers were Melvin March, Contadina Foods and Lloyd Levland.
He was preceded in death by four of his sons, Ralph, Tomas, Jessie and George, on Nov. 13, 1954, and his wife, Teresa Trejo Ramirez, on Dec. 2, 1977. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Refujio Ramirez, and sisters, Maria Cruz and Rita Cital.
He is survived by his son, Clemente Kenneth Ramirez and wife Marina of Woodland; and daughters, Hope Hernandez and husband John of Woodland, Elaria Macias and husband Tony, and Lupe Steele and husband Fred, all of Sacramento.
He has two surviving sisters, Saturnina Cabrera of Palermo and Rosa Lara of Knights Landing.
His 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews carry on his memory.
Mr. Ramirez was a member of the Comite Mexicano No. 2 of Knights Landing for the past 40 years. He liked to take walks up and down the driveway of his home, enjoyed working with his grandchildren on their cars and enjoyed drinking coffee and eating pan dulce.
His hobbies included playing with cards and anything to do with repairing machines. He especially loved living in the country, raising farm animals, listening and dancing to Mexican Ranchera music and took pleasure in watching his grandchildren perform cultural dances from his homeland. According to his extended family, "he was proud to watch his family grow."
Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A rosary service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Kraft Bros. Chapel. A funeral mass will take place at noon Thursday, Dec. 5, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut Street, Woodland, with the Rev. Francisco Velazquez officiating. Interment will follow immediately at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland.

Esteban Joseph Ramirez
Esteban Joseph Ramirez passed away at Woodland Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at the age of 73.
A native of Knights Landing, Mr. Ramirez resided in Yolo County since birth, and attended area schools. He served three years in the United States Air Force, from 1950-1953. His employment consisted of labor-oriented positions, working for Spreckles Sugar and Contadina Foods both of Woodland.
He is survived by his sisters, Rosie and Dolores Ramirez of Woodland; Juanita Ramirez of Sacramento; and brothers, Julio and Mike Ramirez both of Woodland.
Preceding him in death was his father, Esteban Ramirez in 1977; his mother, Pilar Ramirez in 1993; brother Frank Ramirez in 1992; sisters, Helen Salinas in 1993, Nita Kihara in 1998, and Margaret Ramirez in 2002.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10 a.m., on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Church of Christ located at 470 Kentucky Avenue in Woodland. Officiating will be John Hill of Church of Christ.
Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Services of Woodland.

Jose M. Ramirez passed away peacefully, on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 at Alderson Convalescent Hospital in Woodland, at the age of 93. Mr. Ramirez was born on July 9, 1912 in Palo Blanco, Guanajuato, Mexico to Leandro Ramirez and Guadalupe Martinez. He had been a resident of Yolo County for 46 years.
Mr. Ramirez was retired from the University of California at Davis, Radiobiology Laboratory where he worked as a animal caretaker. After retiring, Jose continued with his passion for the land, working with various growers on their farms. In addition, he was an avid gardener at his home in Knights Landing and enjoyed teaching others the joys of agriculture. He also enjoyed fishing, playing poker and his trips to Reno, Nevada. Jose was very proud to have become an American citizen. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he spent many joyous hours with his children and his extended family, sharing his passions in life and passing on his skills and knowledge. Mr. Ramirez was active member of the Comite Mexicano de Beneficencia, Sucursal No. 3 of Yolo County.
Jose is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rita E. Ramirez of Knights Landing; sons, Jose Martin Ramirez Jr. and wife Roxanna, Peter Ramirez and Jesus Manuel Ramirez and wife Renee all of Woodland, Patricio Nevarez Estrada of Knights Landing, Francisco Ramirez and wife Angela of Southern California, Augustin Ramirez of Cuernavaca, Guanajuato, Mexico and Miguel Ramirez and wife Elizabeth of El Paso, Texas; and daughters, Guadalupe Ramirez, Josephine Ramirez and Maria Rita Ramirez all of Woodland, and Elvira Ramirez and husband Jose of Cuernavaca, Guanajuato, Mexico. Also surviving are 47 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A rosary will begin after the visitation, at 7 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Knights Landing, with Father Joe Huang officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Knights Landing Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations in his memory be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dallas Luella Ness Ramos
Dallas Luella Ness Ramos died on Dec. 29, 2003, at Sierra Health Care in Davis. She was 96.
She was born on March 23, 1907, to Magnus and Caspara Ness, in Maddock, N.D. After graduating high school, she attended college for a year. Then she and her sister, Bonnie, studied cosmetology in Minot, N.D. She worked for many years as a hair stylist, both in North Dakota and California.
She and her brother and four sisters all moved west. She worked as a hair stylist at the Senator Hotel in Sacramento from the 1920s through the 1940s.
In 1949 she marriage her beloved husband, Victor Ramos, and they bought a home in North Hollywood, close to where her husband was employed in the film industry. She never learned to drive a car, but she loved to walk - she walked every day until she passed her 96th birthday.
She loved people and people loved her, said her family, who called her "a bright and shining spirit" who was always kind, friendly and had a wonderful sense of humor. She adored wearing bright clothing and colorful jewelry, and there was nothing she liked more than getting a good purchase at a thrift shop. She was a hard worker, one who loved to be busy and to help others in any way she could.
After her husband's death in 1977, she traveled extensively. She took tours and cruises, and enjoyed seeing the world and meeting interesting people along the way. She always said that she never regretted her travels, and lived very frugally so that she was able to see the world.
She remained active all of her life, and took great pleasure in her friends and family. She was an avid scrapbooker, leaving a treasure trove of scrapbooks and photo albums for her family to enjoy.
In 1999 she moved from her house to Evergreen Retirement facility in Burbank. She continued to take her daily walks as well as play bingo. She was loved by everyone there, her family said.
After suffering a stroke in May 2003, she moved to Sierra Health Care to be near the families of her nephews, Richard Hayes and James Murphy. In the short time she lived in Davis, family members said she brightened their hearts as well as those of her friends and caregivers at Sierra Health Care.
She is survived by her stepson, Vic Ramos Jr., her nephew, Richard Hayes and his wife, Kathy, all of Davis, and three other nephews, James Murphy of Sacramento, Kenneth Murphy of Mexico, and Eugene Lang of South Dakota. She is also survived by many great nephews, nieces and cousins.
A private celebration of her life was planned for family and close friends.

Loretta Ramos
Loretta Ramos, of Winters, passed away at her home after a courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 2, 2004. Born April 27, 1938, in Newfoundland, she was 66 years old. Loretta was marriage to Billy Ramos for 32 years, and was a homemaker for 42 years. She enjoyed her occasional trip to Cache Creek, loved to sing, laugh and spend time with her friends and family; especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Billy; daughters Shelly Pardi, Dawn Mayes and Shane McBurnett, all of Winters; sons, Arnie McBurnett, of Woodland and Jason Ramos, of San Diego; grandchildren, Andrea Mayes, Leah Mayes, Jonathon Pardi, Jenna Mayes, Ashley Pardi, Taylor Mayes and Chris (Bubba) Mayes; longtime friend, Jessie MacKinney and best friend and sister, Barb. Loretta was one of 11 children by her parents, John and Agnes Mitchell, who preceded her in death. Donations can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1652 West Texas Street, Ste. 110, Fairfield, CA 94533. Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 6, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Winters. Interment will follow at the Winters Cemetery. Arrangements were made under the direction of Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Maria Teresa Ramos
Maria Teresa Ramos dies March 2, 1991 at age 78.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered yesterday, Wednesday, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Maria Teresa Ramos who died in an Arbuckle rest home on March 2. Burial followed in the Winters Cemetery. The rosary was recited at Smith’s Colonial Chapel on Tuesday evening. She was born in Marchal, Spain, on July 29, 1912, and was 78 years of age.
Mrs. Ramos was a homemaker for the last 63 years and came from Spain to Winters in 1948, living in Winters for 40 years until 1988 when she moved to Arbuckle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Ramos Lopez, who died in Davis on Oct. 24, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, John R. Ramos, who died in Winters on Oct. 27, 1986, and a grandson, Bobby Martinez, who died in Fort Bragg on June 25, 1979.
She is survived by two children: Joe L. Ramos of El Grove and Isabel Martinez of Arbuckle; one brother Jose Ramos of Marchal, Spain; and two sisters Beatrice Ramos and Natila Ramos both of Marchal, Spain. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral of Maria Terea Ramos, held March 6, were Jim Ramos, Jason Martinez, Steve Martinez, Gene Martinez, John Ramos and Frank Carrion.
Father Eugene Lucas conducted the rosary and Father Jorge Moreno officiated at the Mass.

Pamela S. Ramos
Pamela S. Ramos died in her Woodland home on Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at age 48.
Born in Woodland on July 12, 1954, Mrs. Ramos attended local schools and graduated from Woodland High School. She worked for the Yolo County Sheriff's Office for several years and was last employed with the Yolo County Family Support Division.
Mrs. Ramos is survived by her husband Ruben Ramos; sons, Rolando Ramos and his wife Kay, Robert Villarreal and his wife Diana, Adam Villarreal and his wife Jessica, Victor Villarreal, Aaron Villarreal, and Francisco Ramos; daughters, Lucy and her husband Gustavo Rivas, Cha Cha and her husband Antonio Gasca, and Heather Villarreal; parents, Alfred and Bess Contreras; brothers, Alfred Contreras Jr. and his wife Vicki, Rudy Contreras Jr. and his wife Elvia, Gary Contreras and Craig Contreras and his wife Autumn; grandmothers, Mary Gomez and Otilia Contreras; and 11 grandchildren, all of Woodland. She was preceded in death by her son, Roque Villarreal Jr.; granddaughter, Angel Villarreal; nephew, Joey Contreras; and grandfathers, Melchor Contreras and Felix Gomez.
The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: A rosary is scheduled at 6 p.m., today, Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Holy Rosary Church. A mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, also at Holy Rosary Church followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Woodland.
