BROWN

Shirley Jeanne Cannon Brown

Shirley Jeanne Cannon Brown died at home in Woodland Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at age 67.

Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 1, 1937 in Vacaville to the late Edith and William Cannon. She had been a Yolo County resident for 65 years and was an artist specializing in canvas oil and tole painting She was also an award-winning cake decorator and a member of the Cabrillo Club.

Survivors include Mrs. Brown’s husband of 43 years, Raymond and her daughters Terri Chapin and her husband Dean all of Woodland; Susan Lemos and her husband Ed of Washington; grandchildren Cody Whitman and Christopher Chapin; and Cameron and Courtney Lemos; her sisters Edie Sosa and her husband Robert; Pattie Sandum and her husband David; and Debbie Ventura and her husband Albert; her brother George Cannon and his wife Phyllis; her Auntie Lover; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers William and Robert "Tate" Cannon.

Memorials in Mrs. Brown’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society, Yolo County Unit, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, 95815.

Services: A celebration of Mrs. Brown’s life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at McNary’s Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A graveside service at Monument Hill Memorial Park will follow. McNary’s Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

BROWNE

Crystal (Schaad) Browne

Crystal Schaad Browne died in Portland, Ore. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at age 95.

Mrs. Browne was born July 3, 1910 to Albert and Lillie (Ossenbriiggen) Schaad in Williams. She grew up on the family ranch in Dunnigan and graduated from Pierce High School in College City in 1928. After high school she attended Armstrong Business College in Berkeley. She marriage Donald S. Browne on Aug. 31, 1935. She worked as a financial secretary for the Columbia Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Portland, Ore., retiring after 26 years.

Survivors include Mrs. Browne’s daughter, Diane Beauchamp and her husband Venne of Camano Island, Wash.; her son, Kingston Browne and his wife Wanda of Hillsboro, Ore.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her nephew, Gary Schaad of Dunnigan and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Browne; her parents, Albert and Lillie Schaad; her granddaughter, Carol Beauchamp and her brother, Elbert Schaad.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Browne’s name be directed to the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 2145 SW Naito Parkway, Portland, Ore. 97201.

Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Browne, no services are scheduled. Interment was at Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Portland Memorial Funeral Home and Mausoleum assisted the family with arrangements.

BRUGGMAN

Norman Harrison Bruggman

Norman Harrison Bruggman died in Alderson’s Convalescent Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at age 83.

Born in Napa, Mr. Bruggman was a longtime Sutter County resident. He worked as an accountant for Sutter Basin Corp. in Robbins for 53 years.

Mr. Bruggman graduated from Maxwell High School in 1937 and attended Heald’s Business College.

Mr. Bruggman served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of the Robbins Lions Club and the Traditional Jazz Society of Sacramento.

Surviving him are his wife of 55 years, Marjorie R. Bruggman of Robbins; daughters, Barbara Curtis and husband, Charles, of Yuba City, and Norma Palmer and husband, Wesley, of Robbins; son, Neil Bruggman of Robbins; grandchildren, Robert Miller and wife, Diane, of Tigard, Ore., Heather Minard and husband, Sean, of Yuba City, Kimberly Curtis of Yuba City, Donald Curtis and wife, Courtney, and Michael Palmer, all of Chico, David Palmer of Cedar City, Utah, Joshua Bruggman and wife, Sandra, of Woodland and Shaun Bruggman and companion, Jennifer, of Edna, Kan. Also surviving him are five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bruggman was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Henry and Anne "Reese" Bruggman, his brothers, Robert, Darwin and Ruben Bruggman and a daughter, Patricia Miller.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. today, Dec. 13, at the Williams Cemetery in Williams.

McNary’s Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

BRUGH

Norris Ivan Brugh

Norris Ivan Brugh of Roseville died Dec. 25, 2002, in Roseville. Born Jan. 13, 1925, in Holmesville, Neb., he was 76.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ninah; his sons, Ron Brugh and his wife Stella of Roseville, and Mike Brugh and his wife Sue of Davis; and daughters, Joan Rott and her husband Dan of Dixon and Cindy Kirchubel and her husband Keith of El Dorado Hills; his sister, Grace Maw of Aurora, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Reichert’s Funeral Home, 7320 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights. Family and friends are welcome to the memorial service and reception at 1 p.m. Monday at Liberty Towers Church, 5132 Elkhorn Blvd., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norris Brugh Memorial Fund; contact Mike Brugh.

BRUHN

Gordon Bruhn

Mr. Gordon Bruhn passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 in Sacramento. Born on March 1, 1925 in Winters, he was 78 years old.

Mr. Bruhn came from a Winters pioneer family. He was raised in Winters and worked for over 40 years in the family business of manufacturing and selling agricultural pumps. He has been a resident of Sacramento for the past 15 years.

He is survived by his son, Kurtis Bruhn of Vacaville and a sister, Reva Stafford of Sacramento.

Mr. Bruhn was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberlyn Bruhn and a brother, Meredith Bruhn.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 20, at Smith’s Colonial Chapel in Winters. Pastor Frank Anderson officiated the service. Burial followed at the Winters Cemetery.

BRUKNIS

Anne M. Bruknis

Anne M. Bruknis died unexpectedly on Sept. 28, 2004, at Sutter Davis Hospital. She was 87.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Knollcrest Funeral Home in Lombard, Ill. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the Knollcrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, Ill.

Born Nov. 1, 1916, in Chicago, Bruknis graduated from Linbloom High School. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She moved to Davis in October 2003 to be near her son.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno J. Bruknis, on Sept. 4, 2000, and her brothers, Sam and Charles Ralis.

She is survived by her children, William Bruknis and finace Rose Cholewinski of Davis, and Barbara Anne Scalzitti and husband Joseph of Downers Grove, Ill. She also is survived by grandchildren Lisa, Mary and Michael Scalzitti, all of Downers Grove, and Krysten Cholewinski of Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.

BRUNER

Katherine "Kit" R. Bruner

Kit Bruner, 55, died on Nov. 7, 2002, at her home in Davis after an 18-month battle against a rare form of uterine cancer.

She was born on Feb. 7, 1947, in San Francisco and raised in Tiburon by her parents, Jim and Sybil Reynolds.

She had lived in Village Homes since moving from Lake Tahoe to Davis with her family in 1984.

A naturalist, artist and outdoor enthusiast, she enjoyed horses and exploring the mountains with her family and friends and was particularly interested in the wildlife of the Sierra and the Cascades. She enjoyed her homes near Mount Lassen and at Lake Tahoe during the summer. She also enjoyed cooking and travel, including recent trips to Southeast Asia.

She was a 1969 graduate of Cal State Chico and a member of the Alpha Chi sorority. A native of Tiburon, she graduated from Redwood High School in Marin County in 1964.

While living in Lake Tahoe from 1972 to 1984, she and her husband Jim had their two children, Jonathan in 1976 and Sarah in 1981. She was a teacher’s aide at Bijou Elementary School and active as a parent volunteer at the Tahoe Parent Nursery School. She also worked as a biologist sampling Lake Tahoe streams for the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board. She was also active in the League to Save Tahoe, where her husband was the executive director.

At home in Davis, she and her husband raised Jonathan, a 26-year-old commercial real estate broker in Sacramento, and Sarah, a 21-year-old senior at UC Berkeley. She was a homemaker, a teacher’s aide and a parent volunteer at the Davis Parents Nursery School and at Fairfield Elementary School.

She was also a volunteer for Yolo County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

She was a tireless supporter of Jonathan and Sarah’s interests and activities, including their youth, high school and collegiate athletic teams.

She has been a member of the UC Berkeley Cal Parents organization since 1995 and was a member of Davis Community Church.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, James W. Bruner Jr. of Davis; son, Jonathan Crow Bruner of Davis; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Bruner of Berkeley; mother, Sybil Reynolds of Greenbrae; sisters, Julia Weber of Palo Alto and Alison Reynolds Trezise of Geneva, Switzerland; and brother, James Reynolds Jr. of San Rafael.

She is further survived by nieces and nephews, Nick and Toby Weber of Palo Alto; Calvin, Ted and Christine Trezise of Geneva; Charlie McLeod of Seattle; and Jamie McLeod of Berkeley.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. at Davis Community Church, 412 C St.

Remembrances may be made in her name to either Davis Community Church, 412 C St., Davis, CA 95616; Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95616; or UC Berkeley Foundation-Cal Parents Fund, 2440 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA 94720-4200.
