Elsie Louise Gysbers
Elsie Louise Gysbers died following a severe stroke on May 3, 2005, at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield. She was 84.
Born in Phoenix, Ariz., on Oct. 18, 1920, to William and Louise Gough, she grew up in the San Diego and El Cajon areas. After completing her elementary and high school education, she entered Pomona College where she majored in mathematics and graduated in 1942. She then attended the University of Michigan Graduate School where she earned her master's degree in actuarial science.
Following her formal education, she went to work for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City. Later, on the West Coast, she worked for several other insurance companies. During this time she successfully passed the series of examinations that elevated her to become a Fellow in the American Academy of Actuaries. She was one of the first women in the United States to achieve the status of an actuary.
Her family said she loved the wonder and beauty of nature, including gardening, flowers and trees. She hiked, camped, traveled and was a member of the Sierra Club for many decades. Her other passions were cooking, reading, sewing and television mysteries.
She was a fervent believer and participant in the League of Women Voters for more than 40 years where, among other roles, she used her mathematical skills to serve as treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tor; and by her brother, Bill Gough, who was killed in World War II.
She is survived her husband of 53 years, Derk Gysbers of Davis; her daughters, Barbara Kennedy Williams of Boise, Idaho; Diane Gysbers and her husband Jon Ewing of Venice; and Bonni Gysbers of Los Angeles; her sister, Dorothy Bigley; four nieces and two nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
No memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Davis League of Women Voters.
GEDATUS
Evelyn "Nana" Gedatus
Evelyn "Nana" Gedatus died in her Woodland home Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at age 78.
Born April 25, 1924, in Belcourt, N.D., Mrs. Gedatus was the daughter of the late William and Viola Lynch. She moved to California in 1961 with her husband and children. She worked for 30 years in nursing field. She started her career at Alderson's Convalescent Hospital and also worked at Hacienda Convalescent Hospital. She was also employed as a night nurse for the Contadina Cannery for 20 years. According to her family members, "she enjoyed sewing, camping, boating and spending time with her grandchildren."
Mrs. Gedatus is survived by her sons, Don Brown of Holdenville, Okla., Jerry Gedatus and wife Peggy and Terry Gedatus and wife Denise, all of Woodland; and daughter, Valerie Caldwell and husband Russell of Woodland.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Jesse Brown and Paige Brown, all of Holdenville, Okla., Tony Gedatus, Aaron Gedatus, Russell Caldwell Jr., Filica Caldwell, Cody Caldwell, all of Woodland; and her sister, Margie Peterson, also of Woodland.
Mrs. Gedatus was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gedatus; and sister, Dorothy Schuler.
The family invites all friends and acquaintances to attend the memorial gathering at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 24, at 148 Lassen Place, Woodland.
The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95616; or the Diabetes Foundation.

GEDDES
Junior "Jerry" D. Geddes
Junior "Jerry" D. Geddes died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at age 82.
Born Oct. 5, 1921, in Jewel City, Kan., Mr. Geddes had been a Yolo County resident for 62 years. He served as a chief in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a naval aviator, piloting PBY's and was involved in the successful search and recovery of Lt. John F. Kennedy and his patrol boat PT 109. He worked for Epperson's as an outside parts salesman for 25 years. He also worked for Quality Supply until his retirement in August 2003. At the Woodland Moose Lodge he was a past governor, and past Commander of the Woodland Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbara Geddes of Woodland; daughters, Sandi Joerger and husband Tom, Chris Evans-Dull and husband Bill, and Patricia Harris and husband Bob, all of Woodland; son, Jerry Geddes and wife Debbie of Grants Pass, Ore.; and sister, June Hutchison of Woodland; grandchildren, Teri Morrison of Crescent City, Debbie Zimmerman of Woodland, Jim Herzig of Cookville, Tenn., Martin Herzig of Hildebran, N.C., Hiedi Herzig of Woodland, Andy Evans of Cookville, Tenn., Robert Evans of Norfolk, Va., Timothy Collins and David Collins, both of Woodland, and Ashley, Jackie, and Emy Geddes, all of Grants Pass, Ore.; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and cousins.
The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland, with military honors by the U.S. Navy.

Lucy Gee
Lucy Gee died Aug. 26, 2004, in Sacramento. She was 73.
A native of El Paso, Texas, she lived in Sacramento for the past 52 years. She and her family opened State Market in Davis in 1928 and operated the popular grocery at five sites in town. State Market closed in January 2003, making way for Cost Plus World Market.
Her family described her as a wonderful wife, loving mom, caring grandmother and good friend. She always gave her best in everything she did, and made everyone feel special by giving them her time, they said.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bert Gee of Sacramento; three sons, Brian and his wife Kathy of Arbuckle, Derrick and his wife Rochelle of Rocklin, and Curtis and his wife Marj of Sacramento; six brothers, Baho Asheavai and his wife Mary of Los Angeles, Harry Woo and his wife Florence of Los Angeles, Jack Woo and his wife Bernice of Fair Oaks, Frank Woo and his wife Diane of Alhambra, Richard Low and his wife Susie of Arcadia, and David Woo of Monterey Park; a sister, Joyce Woo of Monterey Park; and grandchildren Kimberly, Timothy, Stephen, Austin, Jennelle, Ellee and Casee Gee.
Friends are invited to the visitation at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Liberty Towers Church of the Nazarene, 5132 Elkhorn Blvd., Sacramento. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Private entombment will follow.

GEE
Oliver H. Gee
Oliver Harry Gee died on Nov. 11, 1999. Born on Nov. 11, 1969, he died in an accident near Davis while celebrating his 30th birthday.
A native of Britain, he had been a post-doctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Kent Bradford in the department of vegetable crops at UC Davis since May 1998. He was valued as a highly competent and creative plant geneticist and molecular biologist and as a positive, active and generous person.
In 1997, he received his doctorate at Kings College in London, in association with the Seed Conservation Section, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in England.
He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his friends and colleagues from California. His friends and family will remember him with love.
He is survived by his mother, Julianne Gee; brother, Pippin Gee; and sister, Hermione Gee; all of Britain.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Unitarian Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road in Davis.
Memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
GEERTS
Margaret Esther Walker Geerts
Margaret Esther Walker Geerts of Winters died on Friday, Dec. 16, 2005 at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital. She was 92 years old. Born in Colorado on July 24, 1913, Mrs. Geerts spent 75 years living in Winters. She had been a homemaker for 73 of those years and was a member of the Calvary Baptist church. Mrs. Geerts is survived by her son, Albert Lester Geerts and his wife Patricia of Winters; sisters, Marie Taylor of El Sobrante, Evelyn Drawborn of Texas; Esma Estrada and her husband Alex of Winters; and a brother, Ernest (Bud) Walker and his wife Jimmie of Sacramento.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Cindy Cole, Ben Geerts and his wife Debbie of Winters, Tim Geerts and his wife Jennifer of Woodland and great-grandchildren, Jenny Antrim and Chris Cole both of Woodland; Travis Janel and Justin Geerts of Woodland, and Keith, Aaron and Skyler Geerts. Mrs. Geerts was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Geerts, parents Arthur and Flossie Walker, sisters Violet Davis, Ruth Wagnon, Mildred ayborn and Louise Fields.
A private burial was held in the Winters cemetery. McNary’s Funeral Chapel of Woodland is in charge of the arrangements.
GERONIMO
Isabel Geronimo
A funeral for Isabel Geronimo, 70, was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Dixon.
The Rev. Maurice O'Brien of St. Peter's Catholic Church officiated. Burial was in Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon.
Mrs. Geronimo died April 5, 2002, in her home in Dixon of lymphoma.
Born Jan. 8, 1932, in Winters, she lived in Dixon for 46 years. She graduated from Winters High School in 1949 and then attended secretarial school.
Mrs. Geronimo was a construction secretary at W. M. Lynch Company for more than 25 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of Soroptimist of Dixon. She loved gardening, reading, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon, with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Geronimo is survived by her husband of 46 years, Anthony Geronimo Jr. of Dixon; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Jim Humphrey of San Luis Obispo and Cynthia and Clifford Contreras of Dixon; sister, Katherine Djubek of Sacramento; grandchildren, Chase Contreras of Dixon and Riley and Victoria Humphrey of San Luis Obispo; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Yluminada Fernandez, and brother, Sam Fernandez, all of Winters.
