Diana Smith
Friends and family deeply mourn the loss of Diana Smith, who died from cancer on Jan. 3, 2003, at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
Born on May 5, 1955, she was 47 years old. She was a longtime Santa Rosa resident who worked as an admissions counselor at Sonoma State University where she received her bachelor's degree in 1986.
She loved hiking and spending time on the Northern California coast with her friends and family. Her lifelong passion for horses and her commitment to community service led her, in recent years, to volunteer at Giant Steps in Petaluma, an equestrian center that provides horseback riding lessons to disabled children.
In the last few weeks of her life, she was cared for by her sister, Vicki Smith; her brother-in-law, Steve McMahon; her niece, Molly McMahon; and by many friends whom she had come to know in Davis, including the families of Chris and Poh Wee and Cindi and Andy Kerr.
She also leaves behind two brothers, Steve Smith and his wife Judi of Victorville, and Roger Smith and his children of Hawaii. In addition, she leaves a wonderful community of friends and co-workers in Santa Rosa where services will be held.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Giant Steps, 595 Deer Creek Lane, Petaluma, CA 94952.
