Ernest Peninou
Viticulturist Ernest Peninou, who with his nephew Michael Anderson and Dan Martinez, planted disease resistant rootstock for wine grapes in the Wolfskill District, died in San Francisco on Oct. 23, 2002.
He was a lifelong resident of the city. He was the son of Andre Peninou, founder and proprietor of A. Peninou French Laundry, one of San Francisco's great French laundries (Ernie was extremely distressed that the current owners of the business name elected to add "and Cleaners" to the title.). He was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and Stanford University and a javelin thrower. He was a veteran of World War II, USN Peridot. He studied Enology at U. C. Davis and played a major role in the redefining and refining of California wine making after World War II. He was a winemaker at Madrone, Almaden and Fountain Grove Vineyards, a colleague of Maynard Amerine, Louis Benoit, Frank Schoonmaker and Martin Ray. He later pioneered in the propagation of phyloxera resistant rootstock in California. He was an eminent historian of the history of winemaking in California. His published works include "A History of Orleans Hill Vineyard & Winery of Arpad Haraszthy & Company, " "Winemaking in California, "History of Winemaking in Sonoma County, " and the blockbuster, "Leland Stanford's Great Vina Ranch."
Ernie died without direct issue. His indirect issue includes his nephew, four grandnephews, one grand niece and seven great grand nephews and nieces. He gutted it out for 86 years.

PENN
Phyllis E. Penn
Phyllis E. Penn of Davis died June 1, 2004. She was 86.
Born Aug. 2, 1917, in Davis, she was the daughter of Charles Roos and Myrtle Fritz Roos. Raised in Davis, she attended local schools and graduated from Davis High School in 1935. She worked for California Western State Life Insurance in Sacramento for 40 years until her retirement.
She maintained her home on I Street in Davis for many years, and belonged to the Library Club, Tremont Society and Davis Community Church.
In 1988, she helped to organize an event celebrating the history of the old houses, such as Hunt House, in the historic East Davis neighborhood.
Despite having been ill for four years, she maintained her great smile and sense of humor throughout, a relative said.
At her request, there will be no service. A private interment service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Sacramento. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.
Remembrances in her name may be sent to Davis Community Church, 412 C St., Davis, CA 95616.
PERRY
Harriett Elizabeth Perry
Harriett Elizabeth Perry died at Sierra Healthcare, Davis, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at age 92.
Born May 1, 1911, a native of Woodland, Mrs. Perry was a lifelong resident of Woodland. She was a longtime member of the Woodland Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary, and supported the growth of the Fire Department and the projects undertaken by them.
Survivors include her daughters, Ilene Shuman of Citrus Heights and Barbara Perry of Vacaville; granddaughters, Beverly Bryant and Deborah Shuman of Sacramento, Brenda Reyes of Citrus Heights, Lorrain Rocha-Brownell and husband Jim, Denise Beegle and husband Brett, all of Davis, and Antionette Elliott and husband Scott of Ft. Meade, Md.; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Perry in 1998.
The family requests memorials be directed to Alderson Convalescent Hospital Patient Fund, Woodland. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: Visitation is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Kraft Bros. Funeral Chapel, 175, Second St., Woodland, with a service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow after the service at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Woodland.
PERRY
Lucille Perry
Lucille Perry died at her home Tuesday, Nov. 15 at age 92.
Mrs. Perry was born April 1, 1913 in Algarve, Portugal. She and her husband started what is now Perry Farms Garden Highway Gardens selling corn and tomatoes from the backyard of their Natomas home. Also she worked with her husband on the family farm.
Survivors include Mrs. Perry's daughter, Maria Cornelius and her husband Jack of Sacramento; her sons, Joe and Frank Perry of Sacramento, Joaquin Perry and his wife Margo of Crescent City and John Perry and his wife Colleen of Woodland; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Perry.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Perry, private services were held. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers of Sacramento assisted the family with arrangements.
PERRY
Sharon Lynn (Menees) Perry
Sharon Lynn (Menees) Perry died in her Woodland home Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at age 56.
Born Aug. 14, 1947, a native of Woodland, Ms. Perry was a certified nursing assistant for 20 years. She was employed for Woodland Skilled Nursing Facility for the last 12 years.
Survivors include her sons, Troy Bell and wife Teresa, and Eric Bell and wife Sarah Ortiz, all of Woodland; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eunice and Ed Menees; brother, Dan Menees; and sister, Lucille Menees.
The family requests memorials be directed to Eric Bell, 13 Freeman St., Woodland. Arrangements are under the direction of North Sacramento Funeral Home.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled at noon Saturday, Dec. 20, at Woodland Cemetery.
PERRY
Susan K. Perry
Susan K. Perry of Woodland died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at age 57.
Mrs. Perry was born June 10, 1948 in Fort Wayne, Ind. She had been a Yolo County resident for more than 20 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include Mrs. Perry's brothers, Charles Raugh and his wife Carol and Larry Raugh and his wife Barbara and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Roy Perry; her parents, Elmer and Bernice Raugh; and her brother, Don Raugh.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Perry's name be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at Idle Wheels Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 907 Bourn Drive, Woodland. The Neptune Society is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jesse Carroll Perse
Jesse Carroll Perse died in Sacramento Saturday, May 21, 2005 at age 60.
Mr. Perse was born May 21, 1945 in Little Rock, Ark. He had been a Yolo County resident for 48 years. He worked for Kobel Trucking of Woodland.
Survivors include Mr. Perse's daughter, Tina Byrd of Yuba City; his son, Perry Perse of Woodland; his grandchildren, Travis and Jonathan Perse and Donavan Byrd; his sister, Linda Clayton of Woodland and his brother, Charles Perse of Arkansas.
Services: Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Woodland Cemetery. Kraft Bros. Funeral Services of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
