Thomas H. Jing
Thomas H. Jing died June 30, 2004, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. He was 65.
Born March 6, 1939, in China, Jing received his doctorate of dental surgery degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., where he practiced general dentistry for seven years before returning to the University of Florida in Gainesville for his specialty training in periodontics.
A desire to share his skill and knowledge with future dentists led him to teach periodontics at the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco and Southern Illinois part time. He taught two years full time at Loma Linda Dental School in periodontics before setting up a private periodontics office in Davis, where he practiced for 19 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lillian Jing of Davis. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends and patients, his family said.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to the UC Davis Cancer Center, 4501 X St., Room 3003, Sacramento, CA 95817.
JOCHIM
Sebastian Jochim
Born in Strausburg, North Dakota, January 23, 1913 peacefully passed into heaven on April 11, 2004 in Sacramento, California. He has been a resident of Rio Linda for 67 years. He is survived by his loving wife Julia of 62 years and children Terry Jochim, Grass Valley, Ca.; Dennis Jochim, Sacramento, Ca.; Robert Jochim, Dublin, Ca., and Mark Jochim, Coulterville, Ca.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; his sisters Genevieve Marques, Josephine Bolan, and Rose Ratikin. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine Jochim; brothers, George Jochim and Joe Jochim; sisters, Dorothy Unser and Elizabeth Schreiner.
Sebastian, with his family moved to Knights Landing, Ca. in 1937. Sebastian was employed at McClellan Air Force Base, Ca. from 1939 until he retired in 1973. He was a WW II Veteran in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. Sebastian and Julia settled in Rio Linda after building their home in 1947. He thoroughly enjoyed construction and remodeling after retirement. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rosary will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1951 North Ave., Sacramento, Ca. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 10 a.m., also at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, followed by graveside services at the Calvary Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento, Ca. Sebastian Jochim died in Sacramento Sunday, April 11, 2004, at age 91.

JOERGER
Norman Leavitt Joerger
Norman Leavitt Joerger died in Woodland on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at age 76.
He was born in Sacramento, Jan. 31, 1927 and his family moved to Woodland in 1929. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1945 and worked with his brothers in the Winwood Dairy business that was started by his father in 1929. Norman served a short term in the Merchant Marines from July 1953 to May 1955, and returned to Woodland to continue working with his family in the dairy business which was expanding under his brother Hank's management.
In 1958 the Joerger family purchased the A&W Drive-In on Main Street and operated it only seasonally until Norman bought out his family's share and went into business full time as the A&W's sole owner and operator in 1966 until the early 1980s. He ventured into a few other restaurant businesses during the early 1980's and worked for NorCal Petroleum from the late 1980's through the late 1990's.
He had been an active member of the Lions, Elks, Carlton and Fliers Clubs and was involved in fundraising for the March of Dimes, and umpiring youth baseball. His love of conversation and genuine interest of people made him admired by all who met him.
Beloved Norman is survived by his children and their mother, daughter Marcine Hobbs and her husband David of Marysville; daughter Kimberly Parker and her husband Dan Parker, son Timothy Joerger and his wife Carla all of Woodland; and Cecelia Finley of Marysville. Grandchildren Joseph, Jonathan and Daniel Hobbs all of Marysville; Lyndi Eimerl and her husband Adrian of Sacramento; Kristin Parker, Holten and Eric Joerger all of Woodland. Brother E.H. "Hank" Joerger of Davis; sister Phyllis Caroddo of Roseville and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Theo Joerger, brothers Ted and Donald Joerger and niece Peggy Joerger all of Woodland.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to March of Dimes, 1615 Fifth Street, Davis, Ca. 95627.

JOHNSON
Elmer I. Johnson
Elmer I. Johnson of Dixon died Aug. 13, 2004. He was 83.
Born Aug. 1, 1921, in Sturgis, S.D., to Maurice and Tillie Johnson, he grew up in South Dakota on a cattle ranch with his siblings, Frank, Howard, Helen and Leslie. He loved animals and riding the range.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Sept. 1, 1942, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He served during World War II on the USS Brooklyn, operating a 40mm anti-aircraft gun. He saw action during the invasion of North Africa and the Mediterranean area.
Following his discharge from the military on Dec. 7, 1945, at Camp Shoemaker in Pleasanton, he settled in San Pablo, where he met and later marriage Mayvis, his wife of 54 years.
He lived and worked in the Bay Area as an ironworker for 30 years, helping build some of the tallest buildings in San Francisco and the surrounding areas, as well as the "Tunnel Under the Bay."
He owned and trained ponies for show in halter, roadster and fine harness classes throughout the Western U.S. He also served as a show judge for Welsh, Shetland and Hackney ponies.
In 1972, he retired to own and operate a small ranch south of Dixon, where he raised cattle, sheep and pigs, and for a few years worked at the Dixon Auction Yard.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, Iron Worker's Local 377, the Sons of Norway, member and past president of the Northern California Shetland Pony Club and a past director of the National Shetland Pony Club.
His family says he was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, and had a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by hi brothers Frank and Howard Johnson; brothers-in-law Bob Schone and Seth Osborn; sister-in-law Elaine Klug and two nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Mayvis, of Dixon; daughter Leslie Anne Jacoby and her husband, George, of Citrus Heights; grandson Andrew Jacoby and his wife, Amber, of Citrus Heights; sister Helen Schone of Wall, S.D.; brother Leslie Johnson and his wife, Lorraine, of Helena, Mont.; sisters-in-law Lillian Johnson of Dixon, Eunice Johnson of Wall, S.D., Joyce Osborn of Burnsville, Minn.; Sharon Locke and her husband, Clay, of Kelsey; Lee Jacobson of LaCresent, Minn.; brother-in-law Lindley Jacobson and his wife, Muriel, of LaVista, Neb.; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and their respective families.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, 1701 Russell Blvd. The Rev. Allen Dunn will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Johnson, George Jacoby, Ralph VerLinden, Eric Warnken, Charles Johannessen, Lindley Jacobson, Gale Johnson and Les Wulf. JOHNSON
Gertie N. Johnson
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Pentecostal Church of God, Madison, for Mrs. Gertie Johnson, of 524 Plainfield Avenue, Esparto, who died Monday at Woodland Memorial Hospital. She was 89. Burial will follow at the family plot in Cottonwood Cemetery in Madison.
Mrs. Johnson was a Kansas native and homemaker who lived in Yolo County 30 years. She was a member of the Esparto Senior Citizen’s club. Her husband, Thomas Johnson, preceded her in death in 1959.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Grace Bair, of Esparto; Mrs. Bessie Pearson, of Orangevale; and Mrs. Phoebe Schmidt, of Topaz; a son, Oscar, of Burney; 10 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. McNary’s chapel is coordinating arrangements.
JOHNSON
Kenneth Edward Johnson
Kenneth Edward Johnson died in Woodland, Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at age 69.
Born Nov. 19, 1933, in Live Oak, Mr. Johnson was raised in Chico, Ca. and graduated from Chico High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and returned to Chico to attend Chico State College, where he met Yvonne Jean Jull and they were marriage in 1956. For 33 years he worked as a banker, retiring as a vice president of Sanwa Bank in Los Angeles. After retirement the couple returned to Woodland, where he was active in the Sylvan Sams R.V. Club and as a volunteer at the Woodland Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Jull Johnson; sons, David Jull Johnson and partner Stephen M. Patterson of San Francisco, and Michael E. Johnson and partner George Morgan of San Jose; sister, Ellen M. Johnson of Chico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Blanche and Herbert Edward Johnson; brother, Virgil Johnson; and sister, Donna Jean Morrow.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Diabetes Association, Sacramento Chapter. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery on Saturday, May 31, 2003.
JOHNSON
Mae Evelyn Johnson
Mae Evelyn Johnson, long time resident of Cupertino, passed away on April 23, 2001. She was 92 years old.
Born April 6, 1909 to Charles and Sadie Smith in Jamestown, North Dakota she was one of four children. After receiving her teaching degree from Jamestown College in 1932, she moved to Gilford Montana to teach English and History at Gilford High School. After three years, she moved to Stanford, Montana where she accepted employment as a teacher at Stanford High School in exchange for room and board. It was while teaching there she met her future husband and the "Prince of her life," Gunnard Ernest Johnson, who was a fellow colleague. They were marriage in her hometown June 10, 1939.
The two then set off for Billings, Montana where they began their family and remained until 1943. It was then that a better opportunity brought them to Winters. Mae worked part time for the Winters Express and became a member of the Eastern Star. In 1950, Mae took on the responsibility of conducting the 1950 Winters census. The family moved to Herlong in 1952 where she resumed her teaching career at the junior high level in the language arts. In 1957, the family moved to Cupertino and Mae taught until her retirement in 1971.
Mrs. Johnson had many passions in life. She had a tremendous love for literature, especially Shakespeare, which she could quote flawlessly up until her death. Also, she had a great love for gardening and of that which brought beauty and happiness into the world. She had a deep love and connection to family and friends, which brought her great joy and contentment throughout her life.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her two brothers, Glenn and Roy Smith, and sister Lois Wilson.
Her two daughters Lynne Garrison and her husband Terrence of Sonoma and Diane Lardelli and her husband Renzo of Davis survive her, as well as her grandchildren Mark, Scott and Ryan Garrison and Rea Lardelli.
The family wishes to express a deep gratitude to the staff of the "Turning Leaf Care Facility" for their devoted love and care of Mrs. Johnson in the last years of her life.
A memorial service for Mrs. Johnson is scheduled for Friday, May 11, at noon at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, located at 205 Russell Street in Winters. Remembrances may be made in Mrs. Johnson's name to the Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Foundation, 1084 Almaden Village Lane, San Jose, CA 95120-3365.
