Jennie Judd
Jennie Eileen Mackey Judd died Dec. 27, 2000. Born in Petajavesi, Finland, on April 20, 1903, she was 97.
At the age of 6, she emigrated to the United States with her family, eventually settling in Helena, Mont., where she attended school and graduated from Helena High School. Family needs then caused her to become self-supporting at age 10 as an au pair, or companion, and she maintained her financial independence all her life.
After high school, she worked first as a clerk, then secretary, then insurance and bond underwriter for the USF&G Co. in Helena until she retired in 1966.
She marriage Clifford C. Judd on May 28, 1927. They had two daughters, JoAnn Judd Buley and Donna Judd Hands. Her husband died in 1985, and in 1987 she moved to Davis to be near Donna and her family. She lived at Covell Gardens for several years, and in 1994, she moved to Lake Oswego, Ore., to be near JoAnn and her family. She lived at Carman Oaks until her death.
For many years of their marriage, she and her husband hunted, fished and camped in Montana. They were both involved in Masonic Orders - he in Masons and Shriners, she in Eastern Star. They were both avid bowlers and she was still teaching people to dance the Charleston when she was in her 80s.
She was preceded in death by her daughter JoAnn. She is survived by JoAnn's husband, Joe Buley, and their three children, Jane Buley Baird, Anne Buley Prince and J.J. Buley. She is also survived by her daughter, Donna and her husband, Richard Hands, as well as their two children, Mark and Barry, and three grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances to a Shriners Hospital.
YAMADA
Henry Y. Yamada
After a stubborn fight against lung cancer, retired Davis farmer Henry Y. Yamada died on Aug. 23, 2002. He was 68 years old.
Born Jan. 24, 1934, in Sacramento to Joe and Haru Yamada, he grew up at his father's bait shop until World War II when he and his family were forced to relocate to the Tule Lake Internment Camp. When the war ended, they returned to Sacramento to start over.
After graduating from McClatchy High School in 1952, Yamada went to UC Davis to study agriculture. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army and spent two years overseas in Korea. After returning to the United States, Henry went into farming with his father and brother. They had many prosperous years farming corn and tomatoes in Davis.
Yamada loved life. He enjoyed the great outdoors. After retiring from farming in 1989, he spent time each year salmon fishing in Alaska, traveling to Europe and driving his trademark Ford Bronco to San Jose to visit his three grandchildren.
He enjoyed eating at Cindy's Restaurant with his breakfast club, something he had been doing for the past 30 years.
He loved his family -- his wife of 39 years, Kumiko; his children, Phyllis (and John) Louie of San Francisco, Joyce (and Emmanuel) Gjee of San Jose and his son Dean Yamada of Los Angeles; and his three grandchildren, Elisabeth, Annalicia and Stephen Gjee.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Davis Community Church, 412 C St. in Davis.
YAMAMOTO
Shunta Yamamoto
Shunta Yamamoto, whose vision and early financial support were integral in the creation of International House, Davis, died June 29, 2002, in Gainesville, Fla. He was 78.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, he moved to Gainesville from Davis nine years ago.
Although he no longer lived in Davis, Yamamoto remained honorary chairman of the I-House board of directors.
He is survived by his wife, Chizuko Yamamoto of Gainesville, and two daughters, Eleanor Yamamoto of Davis and Janet Yamamoto of Gainesville.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Williams-Thomas funeral Home in Gainesville. There will be no local services. Interment will be in Tokyo.
YANCI
Lita Martinez Yanci
Lita Martinez Yanci died April 9, 2001, in her Winters home. Born in Oakley on April 24, 1918, to Fernando and Antonia Rojo, she was 82.
She was a member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Winters, Esparto Study Club and Soroptimist International of Winters and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an 80-year resident of Winters.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dick Rojo; sisters, Mary Martin, Antoinette Barranco and Isabel Martin; and her first husband, John Martinez Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Ramon Yanci of Winters; son, John A. Martinez and wife, Robin of Benicia; daughters Betty Ann Biasi; Patti Gottlieb and husband Greg of Winters; grandchildren Sam Biasi and wife Anne of Petaluma; Lori Fellows and husband Turk of Esparto; John F. Martinez of Happy Camp; Jennifer Martinez of Walnut Creek; Paul and Ann Gottlieb of Roseville. Also, great-grandchildren, Anthony, Sarah, Tyler and Tanner; her brother, Chris Rojo and wife Carmen of Winters; sisters Josephine Mermod and husband Jack of San Lorenzo; and Dolores Gregg and husband, Bill of Sacramento; sisters and brothers-in-law, Isabel Snow and husband Phil of Winters; Dan Martinez and wife Joan of Winters; Marie Yanci of Woodland; and Joe Yanci and wife, Pat of Woodland.
Visitation will be today from 5 and 8 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 205 Russell St., Winters. The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pioneer Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private at Winters Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in her name to Winters Health Care Foundation, 23 Main St., Winters, CA 95694, or to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.
YASSERI
Anoushiravan (Andy) Yasseri
Anoushiravan (Andy) Yasseri died in his Woodland home on Monday, April 29, 2002.
Born in Iran on June 16, 1938, he was 64 years old. Mr. Yasseri was a resident of Yolo County for nine years.
Mr. Yasseri was a franchise owner of Subway restaurant in Woodland. He received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and a master's degree from J.O. Physica in London, England.
Mr. Yasseri is survived by his wife, Flora Yasseri; his son Ahi Yasseri and his daughter Tala Yasseri.
A service is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. for Saturday, May, 4, at 933 Silverado Drive in Woodland.
YEAGER
Lee Arthur Yeager
Lee Arthur Yeager died in Woodland on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at age 46.
Mr. Yeager was born March 26, 1958 in Sacramento to Harry and June McKinney Yeager. Mr. Yeager had been a Yolo County resident for three years. He graduated from Hiram W. Johnson High School and Sacramento City College and was previously employed by the California State Railroad Museum as a restoration consultant of locomotives. He was also well known as a train modeler and artist.
Survivors include Mr. Yeager's wife, Tammy Fitts Yeager, sons Jacob and Joshua Campos, all of West Sacramento, his daughter, Jennifer Campos of Sacramento and his parents, Harry and June McKinney Yeager of Sacramento. He is also survived by his brother Robert Yeager and his wife Susan of Sacramento, his sister Christine Yeager of Seattle, and his mother-in-law Rose Fitts of Woodland.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Yeager's name may be directed to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, or the State Railroad Museum, Sacramento, 95814.
Services: A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20 at Calvary Chapel, at the corner of East Main and Pioneer Ave., Woodland with Pastor John Withem officiating. In keeping with Mr. Yeager's wishes, interment at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland, will be private. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
YEARY
Sidney Frank Yeary
Sidney Frank Yeary died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Monday, April 11, 2005 at age 91.
Mr. Yeary was born Aug. 31, 1913 in Crowder, Okla. He had been a Yolo County resident for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the Seabees Construction Battalion in the Asia-Pacific Theater. After the war, he worked for the San Francisco Water Department as a surveyor and then for the Operating Engineers for 27 years. He belonged to many civic organizations, including the Clearlake Elks Club.
Survivors include his nephew, Robert Yeary and his wife Carolyn of Daly City; his sister-in-law, Nola Yeary of Red Bluff and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Yeary.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Yeary's name be directed to the Woodland Senior Center, 630 Lincoln St., Woodland, 95695.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mr. Yeary, no services are scheduled. Private inurnment will be scheduled at a later date for family members. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.
