Willis Yoder
Willis Yoder died Nov. 11, 2001. Born on Dec. 31, 1919, in Aurora, Ore., he was 81 years old.
Even though his upbringing was Mennonite, he served in the Army during World War II as a medical and surgical technician. His love of music was expressed through singing in the church choir and the barbershop chorus. Other loves included the outdoors and traveling. He was a truck driver for many years for Crown Zellerbach in Oregon. One of his proudest moments was receiving an award for driving more than 1 million accident-free miles.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris; his daughters, Mary Wright and her husband Walt of Medford, Ore., and Julia Jolly and her husband Desmond of Davis; and his grandchildren, D. Anthony Jolly, Katherine Jolly, Valerie Wright Session and Gabrielle Wright. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to national parks.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 23, at noon at the home of Desmond and Julia Jolly, 101 W. Eighth St. in Davis.
YEOMAN
Hugh E. Yeoman Jr.
Hugh Yeoman Jr., a 31-year resident of Davis, died on Feb. 14, 2003, at his home. Born on Aug. 27, 1923, in Mount Ayr, Ind., he was 79 years old.
He graduated from Remington High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from October 1942 to March 1946. He worked as a PBX repairman for Pacific Bell for more than 30 years. While living in Davis, he was a member of the Davis Volunteer Fire Department and the Davis Police Reserve.
His wife, Nelva Behnky Yeoman, preceded him in death in 1987.
He is survived by son, Thomas Yeoman of For Myers, Fla.; stepson, David Fairbrother of Mill Valley; and stepdaughters, Patricia Fairbrother of Pleasant Hill and Gale Fairbrother of San Rafael. He also leaves six brothers, two sisters and five grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service was today at the Davis Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
IRBY
Mary Carolyn (Buchholz) Irby
Mary Carolyn (Buchholz) Irby died in her Woodland home Sunday, July 21, 2002, at age 85.
Born Nov. 16, 1916, in Enid, Okla., Mrs. Irby had been a Yolo County resident for 66 years. She was one of eight children born to the late Walter and Laura (Claypole) Buchholz. She was marriage, in 1933, before she and her husband came to California. They arrived in Yolo County in 1936 where they made their home and reared five children. Mrs. Irby was employed by the local Woodland cannery for 33 years and continued her work as the union representative of Cannery Workers Local Union until her retirement in 1978.
Mrs. Irby is survived by her children Robert "Bob" Irby and wife Carolyn of Rio Linda, Katherine Kelley and husband Dale of Canyonville, Ore., Walter "Sonny"' Irby and wife Sharon of Woodland, and Velma "Sis" Irby of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her brothers, John and Ronald Buchholz.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Noble P. Irby, in May 1969; and daughter, Delores Faye Irby, in November 1942.
Family and friends are invited to attend the remembrance of her life at a graveside funeral service scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, July 26, in Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland, with Chaplain Scott Montgomery officiating. No visitation is scheduled prior to the graveside service.
The family requests memorials be directed, in her name, to: Cancer Society of Northern California, 1765 Challenge Way, Sacramento, 95815; or American Heart Association, 2007 "O" St., Sacramento, 95814.

IRELAND
Eugene Lester Ireland
Eugene Lester Ireland passed away on April 25, 2003. Born in Winters on July 7, 1920 to Lester and May Ireland, he was 83 years old.
Mr. Ireland graduated from Winters High School in 1937 and attended UC Berkeley, where he received his degree in medicine. He marriage Rene Rossi on December 14, 1941. Drafted into the U. S. Navy, he served in the Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Ireland was awarded his residency in pediatrics from UC San Francisco. In 1948, the family moved to Santa Monica where he established a very prominent practice, was on the staff of St. John's Hospital and was Chief of Pediatrics at Santa Monica Hospital. Upon his retirement in 1996, he and Rene moved to Redding.
Mr. Ireland leaves five children, Christine Franklin of Redding, John Ireland of San Diego, Tom Ireland of Folsom, Eric Ireland of Lakeside and Anthony Ireland of Santee; nine grandchildren, Jeff Franklin, Kelly VanDyke, Genie Ireland, Bryan Ireland, Russell Ireland, Jillian Ireland, Bonnie Ireland, Scott Ireland and Matthew Ireland; seven great grandchildren, Kaleb Franklin, Nicholas Franklin, Andrew Franklin, Jesse Franklin, Katherine VanDyke, Joshua VanDyke and Kristina VanDyke.
Mr. Ireland was preceded in death by his wife Rene in 2002, his brother Wayne in 1993, and two children, Eugenie in 1978 and an unnamed infant boy in 1945.
Graveside services were held at the Winters Cemetery on May 1 with Reverend Frank Anderson officiating.
GAINES
Vivian Holmes Cordray Gaines
Vivian Holmes Cordray Gaines died in her Woodland home on Monday, April 28, 2003. She was 84.
Born in Harrisburg, Illinois, she moved to Los Angeles in 1948 to marry her first husband, William Cordray, and began teaching for the Los Angeles Unified School District that same year. An accomplished musician and vocalist, Ms. Gaines taught music and third-grade. She taught for almost 25 years at Morningside Elementary School in San Fernando and retired in 1978. After her first husband's death, she marriage John F. Gaines and later moved to Woodland, Ca. Ms. Gaines is survived by her husband, John Gaines, her daughter, Janie Cordray, stepchildren John and Judith Gaines, daughter-in-law, Michele Gaines, and three grandchildren, Taylor, Brendon, and Erin Gaines.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at Noble Chapel at 1231 First Street in San Fernando. As a teacher, Ms. Gaines believed strongly in education, and counseled her students and young women about the importance of higher education and the availability of scholarships and grants. For that reason, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the PEO Educational Loan Fund, California State Chapter P.E.O., P.O. Box 1099, Alhambra, Ca. 91802.
GALABASA
Celestino Gorgulis Galabasa
Celestino Gorgulis Galabasa passed away on May 21, 2004, in Vacaville, He was 88 years old. Born in the Philippines on April 16, 1916, he served in the Army in World War II and came to the United States when he was 25.
Mr. Galabasa is survived by five children: David H. Galabasa; Tina M. Anguiano, Frances A. Perez, Celestino V. Galabasa, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, and Paul A. Galabasa. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, Latisha M. Brewer, Joshua D. Fritch, David P. Anguiano, Adam Anguiano, Jennifer Rodriguez, Jessica Rodriguez, Edward B. Perez, III, Vanessa D. Perez, Klarice K. Galabasa, Celestino D. Galabasa and Beau A. Galabasa, and two great-grandchildren, Morgan T. Galabasa and Peyton S. Brewer.
We love you and will miss you always, until we see you again.
GALBRAITH
Fred Galbraith
Fred Galbraith died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at age 73.
Born June 19, 1928, in Bakersfield, Mo., Mr. Galbraith was a farmer. He was a member o Crossroads Full Gospel Church of God.
Mr. Galbraith is survived by his wife, La Von Galbraith of Woodland; sons, Gary Galbraith and wife Rebecca and Terry Lee Galbraith; daughter-in-law, Michelle Galbraith of Citrus Heights; grandchildren, Chanda Galbraith of Fresno, Jennifer, Sarah, Rochelle and Jason of Woodland, David of Yuba City and Joseph of San Luis Obispo; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Faith of Fresno, and Brian of Woodland.
He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Riddles and husband Ray of Visalia; brothers, Aubrey Galbraith and wife Dorothy of Camp Nelson, and Mitchell Galbraith and wife Margie of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Galbraith was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Fred Galbraith, on Jan. 4, 1993; and great-grandson, Nathaniel Wayne Galbraith on May 15, 1997.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at Crossroads Full Gospel Church, 386 W. Beamer, Woodland, with a burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
