Benny Cannon
Benny Cannon of Woodland died on Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in Kaiser Hospital Roseville, following a brief illness. He was born in Bengal, Oklahoma on Feb. 27, 1938. He moved to Davis in 1954, where he worked in the construction business. In 1977 he created his own construction firm, Cannon and Sons. Mr. Cannon specialized in residential construction, mainly in Yolo County.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife Sue and son Gary, and grandsons Cody and Craig Cannon, all of Woodland. In addition he is survived by two brothers, Delbert and James Cannon, and a sister, Margaret Ann Hamner, all of Oklahoma and also numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his older son, Michael Cannon in 1982, and his parents, George and Dorothy Cannon, both of Oklahoma.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 29, at the Woodland Christian Church. Interment will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
CANO
Timmy Alfred Cano, Jr.
Timmy Alfred Cano Jr. died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Sunday, July 3, 2005 at age 19.
Mr. Cano was born Oct. 26, 1985 in Woodland. He had been a life-long Woodland resident. He was a 2004 graduate of Woodland Christian School. He was a music producer and attended Woodland Church of Christ and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include Mr. Cano's mother, P. Shimada and her husband Mitch of Woodland; his father, Tim A. Cano of Woodland; his sisters, Sydni Shimada, Onor R. Cano, Marissa Hart and Tanna Dixon, all of Woodland; his brothers, Quest L. Cano and Malachie T. Cano of Woodland; his grandparents, Sharon and Jimmy Roberts and Al and Ruby Cano, all of Woodland and his great-grandfather, Mel Oglivie of Woodland.
Services: A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, July 8 at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland with pastors Jon Wilkerson and Floyd officiating. Interment will follow the service at Monument Hill Memorial Park. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
CANSLER
Rojer J. Cansler
Roger James Cansler died suddenly on Jan. 7, 2001, in Tokyo, Japan. Born Sept. 29, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was 38.
He was an adventurous soul who enjoyed the outdoor life of hiking, kayaking, skiing, fishing and climbing. He worked as a quality engineer in Japan and Korea for Southwall Technologies, of Sunnyvale. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family in the United States and Japan.
He is survived by his wife, Chigusa Kobayahi Cansler of Chita City, Japan; his sons, Kai Harrison and Graeme Evan; his parents, Harvey and Janet Peck of Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Cansler of Denver; his sisters, Jennifer Schwind and her husband Robert of Napa, Lani Peck of Phoenix, and Heidi Vermeil and her husband Michael of Fort Thomas, Ky.; and his brothers, Jonathan Cansler of San Jose and Chad Peck and his wife Denise of Gilbert, Ariz.
A funeral will be held Friday at the Nagoya-Seibo Catholic Church in Chita City, Japan.
CAPPELL
Erna Elizabeth Cappell
Erna Elizabeth Cappell of Davis died Feb. 11, 2002. She was 83.
She was born June 21, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., and was the third of four children in her family. As a child, she helped her parents run the boarding houses they owned. She was a nurse from 1937 to 1941 and a steel inspector at U.S. Steel from 1941 to 1958. She met her husband, Anthony Cappell, a spark tester, at U.S. Steel.
They had one son in 1958 and one daughter in 1960. She devoted the remainder of her life to the care of her children and grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1982.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret Cadoret; her son, Anthony Joseph Cappell; her daughter, Erna Louise Kessell; and her granddaughters, Evyn and Whitney Kessell.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Davis Lutheran Church.
Davis Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
BROWN
M. Maynard Brown
M. Maynard Brown passed from this life on Jan 20, 2006, in Carmichael, at 91 years.
He is the beloved husband of Marian Meister Brown and loving father of Christine Brown VanderPol; dear father-in-law of Ronald VanderPol; cherished papa (grandfather) of Andrew Roger Cartozian and Elizabeth Ann Cartozian; dear cousin of Joan Churches, Lynn Jones, Ward Murray, and numerous other loving cousins.
His devoted wife of 55 years Janet Moynihan Brown and parents Caswell Clarence and Roxie Armstrong Brown preceded him in death.
Maynard’s maternal and paternal grandparents came to CA in the 1850’s and settled in Yolo County where both sets were pioneer farmers – one along Oat Creek and one in Capay Valley.
Born in Woodland May 28, 1914, at age 3 Maynard and family moved to Sacramento where he lived the remainder of his life.
He attended Newton Booth School (class of 1928), Sacramento High School (class of 1932), and Sacramento Junior College.
When WWII broke out, Maynard enlisted in the army and served in Atlantic City and Tacoma as a medic.
Upon returning to Sacramento he began a career with SMUD that spanned 42 years.
Maynard was a member of Del Paso CC, The Grandfather’s Club, “Over the Hill” Gang, and a founding member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Carmichael.
A strong believer in giving back to the community, Maynard served on many boards, foundations, and charity event committees.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church 2140 Mission Ave, Carmichael, on Monday Jan 30 at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Maynard’s name to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, The Sharing Place, 5105 F St, Sacramento, CA 95819, or the charity of your choice. Private interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Aegis of Carmichael and Vitas Hospice for the kind, compassionate, and loving care that Maynard received. BROWN
Margaret Severn Brown
Margaret Severn Brown died Jan. 30, 2006, in Bellingham, Wash. She was 80 years old.
She was born April 6, 1925, in Forth Worth, Texas, to Allene and Lynn Reece.
She is survived by two sons, Sheffield Ford of Dunningham and Tom Buck of San Bernardino; and two daughters, Linda Ashton of Maple Falls, Wash., and Lisa Brown of Acme, Wash.
Burial and a memorial service will be in Davis. Arrangements are pending.
BROWN
Margery L. Brown
Margery L. Brown of Sacramento died Aug. 11, 2004, in Sarasota, Fla. She was 67.
Born Jan. 5, 1937, in Laguna Beach, she was a Yolo County resident for 30 years.
She graduated from San Jose State in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She became a Woodland resident in 1962. In 1972, she moved to Davis, where she resided until 1992, when she moved to Sacramento.
She was a longtime employee in the radiology department at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. She was a member of the Sacramento Vorlage Ski Club.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Monica Strong and her husband Glenn of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kimberly Lawlor and her husband Dave from Sarasota, Fla.; brother Richard Saunders and his family of Laguna Beach; grandchildren Kelsey and Nicholas Strong, and Matthew and Brandon Lawlor; and loving companion Gerald Rohlfes of Sacramento.
A graveside service will be held today in Corona del Mar. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 625 Florin Road in Sacramento.
