VAUGHN

Minna B. Vaughn

Minna B. Vaughn died in Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, Woodland on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at age 91.

Born Feb. 8, 1912, in Brookport, Ill., Mrs. Vaughn had been a Yolo County resident for 67 years. She was an active member of the Woodland Christian Church. She was a past president of the P.E.O. Chapter HY. and she was also belonged to the Davis Flower Group.

Survivors include her son, Doug Vaughn; daughters, Mary Lynn Mezger and Jeanne Vaughn Arnold; grandchildren, Josh Mezger, John Mezger, Eric, Shelley, Mark and Sharel Vaughn; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice.

Her remains were donated to UC Davis Medical School.

Services: To be planned for future.

VENARD

Elisabeth Ann Venard

Elisabeth Ann Venard of Yuba City died Feb. 14, 2006, at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville. She was 75.

A service begins at 3 p.m. Friday at Lipp and Sullivan Chapel in Marysville.

Born July 3, 1930, in Mainz, Germany, she grew up in Germany during World War II. She met and marriage Thomas W. Venard, while he was serving in U.S. Army intelligence. The couple moved to the United States in 1955 and eventually settled in Vacaville in 1960 where they raised their family.

She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Thomas W. Venard of Yuba City; her sons, Thomas J. Venard of Kansas City, Mo., and William N. Venard and his fiancée, Judy Painter, of Vacaville; and her daughters, Blanche Venard McNaughton and her husband, Davis Enterprise Publisher R. Burt McNaughton, of El Macero; and Barbara Anne Venard of Yuba City.

She is further survived by nine grandchildren, including Jacquelyn and Berkeley McNaughton of El Macero.

VERMAZEN

Herbert Russell Vermazen

Herbert R. Vermazen, 80, of Woodland died Friday, June 21, 2002. He was born in Keokuk, Iowa, and was a carpenter by trade. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and flew 35 missions over Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Survivors are his wife, Marie Vermazen, Woodland; son, Dick Vermazen, and daughter-in-law, Diane, Woodland; and daughter, Dianna Hempen, San Diego. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Rusty Vermazen, Woodland; Deena Zeck, Palo Cedro; Michelle and Eric Hempen, San Diego; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 5 p.m., Saturday June 29, 2002 at the New Testament Church, 108 W. Woodland Ave. Woodland. Any memorials in Mr. Vermazen's memory can be made to the church.

BURLESON

Lavern "Tootsie"/"Vern" Burleson

Lavern "Tootsie" or "Vern" Burleson died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 at age 78.

Mrs. Burleson was born March 24, 1927 in Leachville, Ark. She had been a Yolo County resident for five years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include Mrs. Burleson’s sons, Rodney Bryce Higgins of Woodland; her stepsons, Michael Burleson of Michigan and Terry Burleson of Indiana; her grandchildren, Jude Croxford, Dawn Avalos and Krista Higgins; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, DanB Miller of Texas, Corabelle Brewer of Ohio and Myrl Leitz of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jack Burleson; her mother, Rosabelle Smith; her father, Dolph Smith; her sister, Irma Durbin and her brother, Roe Smith.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Burleson’s name be directed to The American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, 95815.

Services: A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Kraft Bros. Funeral Home, 175 Second St., Woodland with Reverend Elmer Prout officiating. Interment will follow the service at Woodland Cemetery. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

BURNS

Richard "Dick" Burns

Richard "Dick" Burns died Feb. 1, 2005, in Davis after a lengthy illness. He was 72.

A visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. A graveside service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Road.

Born July 14, 1932, in Huntington Park, he was known for his quick wit, warm heart and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Sandy Burns; his children, Susan Abrahams of Napa, Matthew Burns of Rancho Cucamonga and Michael Burns of Eldridge; his son-in-law Mark Abrahams; his daughter-in-law, Sonia Burns; and his grandchildren, Bailey Abrahams, Mason Abrahams and Mason Burns.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to the American Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.

BURRAGE

Linda Marcelle Burrage (1st of 2 obituaries)

Burrage, Linda Marcelle passed away at home Friday, March 26, 2004 following a long battle with cancer, age 59. Beloved wife of William (Bill) Burrage, marriage 37 years. Predeceased by her parents Herman and Violet Burkett. Loving mother of Sam (Sarah) Burrage of Windsor, Nancy Burrage of Santa Rosa, special stepmother of Becki Spiva of Esparto, Ca. and David Burrage and his former wife Mary Kennedy of Colorado. Also survived by her sisters, Barbara Burkett of San Jose and Janice Palagruti of Seattle, Wash. and her brother Dennis Burkett and his wife Susan of Novato. Grandmother of Alyson and Gavin and step-grandmother of Tristan, Nicole, Damon, Ashley and Davey. Linda was born in Vallejo, Ca. on Christmas Day 1944. She loved bowling in her earlier years and was the office manager and business partner at B & E Transmission in San Francisco for 37 years with her husband, Bill. Linda is remembered as a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She loved cooking for her family and was known as a private, quiet person who enjoyed music, quiet times sitting in the sun and giving of herself to all, a loving, generous and kind person. Linda especially loved spending time with her granddaughter and was looking forward to the arrival of her grandson. She was a beautiful, special person who will be missed by all she ever came in contact with.

A funeral service was held Sunday, March 28, 2004 in the Santa Rosa Memorial Park and Mortuary Chapel, 1900 Franklin Ave., Santa Rosa. Those desiring may make donations in Linda’s name to American Cancer Society, 1451 Guerneville Rd., Santa Rosa, Ca. 95403; or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The Presidio, P.O. Box 29316, Bldg. 36, Lincoln Blvd., Ste. 220, S.F. Ca. 94129. Arrangements under the care of Santa Rosa Memorial Park & Mortuary, (707) 542-3154.

Pansy Turold Burris

Pansy Turold Burris died at Alderson Convalescent Hospital, Woodland Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at age 94.

Born Jan. 1, 1909, in Arcata, Mrs. Burris had been a Yolo County resident for 75 years.

Survivors include her sons, William Turold and wife Jane of Woodland, Jack Turold and wife Sally of Davis, and Ron Goselin and wife Connie of Yuba City; and several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary’s Chapel of Woodland.

Services: A graveside service was conducted Friday, March 14, 2003, at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland.
