Robert Henry "Bob" Scadden
Robert Henry "Bob" Scadden passed away on Dec. 23, 2004. He was born on May 31, 1941 in Burro Canyon, Colorado, to Henry and Jennie Scadden. He was delivered in the bedroom of their ranch house by a local country doctor. On the ranch, the family raised cattle, and used some for milk. Once a week, they would take the cream and sell it to the creamery in Trinidad, Colorado. Bob learned to work hard at a young age. He attended a one-room school house right next to the ranch until the eighth grade. He graduated high school in Trinidad at the age of 16. After six months of college, Bob joined the U. S. Army. While stationed in Fairfield, he met the love of his life, Shirley Kay Westbrook. They were marriage Dec. 22, 1961. They had a daughter and a son. He worked for U.C. Davis for 37 years and then retired. He also worked part-time for Pisani's service station for approximately 35 years. He resided in Winters for 41 years. Bob was a very hardworking man all his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his humorous sarcasm, his friendly attitude and his never-ending smile. He was also known for being there for those who needed him. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Scadden, of Winters; daughter Sherry Caskey and son-in-law Dennis Caskey, of Winters; son Robert D. Scadden, of Woodland; sister Alice Louderback and brother-in-law Odell Louderback, of Colorado; granddaughters Jennifer, Melissa and Kristy Spurling, of Winters and Destiny Scadden, of Oregon; grandson Keith Caskey, of Winters, and many more relatives. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the whole community, but always in our hearts. We love you Bob, Dad, Papa and Pops. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Winters, 512 First Street, on Monday, Jan. 3. The viewing will be at 10 a.m., the funeral at 11 a.m. A Graveside service will be held at the Winters Cemetery immediately following the funeral. A reception will follow at First Baptist Church.
SCARLETT
Leland Wilson 'Lee' Scarlett
Leland W. "Lee" Scarlett died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Walnut Creek at age 84. He died from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Born June 17, 1917, in Woodland, Mr. Scarlett was the son of Leland Wilson Scarlett and Stella (Guile) Scarlett. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1935 where he was a cheerleader and active in music. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He also attended San Francisco State University's School of Hotel Management. During his college years, he played clarinet and drums in his own band, performing in various California resorts. He spent many years in the hospitality industry managing hotels and restaurants in Oregon and California. In later years, he became a real estate broker in the Walnut Creek area and finally in Livermore. He was a member of the Elks Club in Woodland and a lifetime Rotarian affiliated with the Rotary Club of Livermore. He enjoyed golf, big bands and the sociability of the Men's Club of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakland.
Mr. Scarlett is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Scarlett; children, Linda Wingard of Winters, Isabel Harrison of Concord, the Rev. Stephen Scarlett of Irvine, Sandy Milano of Walnut Creek and Scott Scarlett of Antioch; siblings, Patricia Scarlett and Peggy Eichorn of Davis and Daniel Scarlett of Santa Rosa; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Leland Wilson Scarlett Jr., in 1972; and brother, James Scarlett.
Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oakland, with a burial to follow at 2 p.m. in Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum.

SCHACHERBAUER
John Schacherbauer
Longtime Yolo County resident John Schacherbauer died June 22, 2003, at home, surrounded by friends and family. He was 72.
He was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Altoona, Penn., to Mary and George Schacherbauer. He joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1951 and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base.
In December 1954, he marriage Janis Jordan. The couple made their home in Vacaville until 1960, when the Schacherbauers moved to Davis as the new owners of the Standard station at 980 Olive Drive, later Johnny's Chevron. The business added a private towing service in 1963, and eventually became a AAA contract station with towing and auto repair that continue today at Johnny's Service Center.
When the gas station was removed and replaced by Caffino, the Schacherbauers opened a garage at another site on Olive Drive. Most recently, he was involved in planning a second location for Johnny's and overseeing other rental properties.
Schacherbauer and his wife moved to Woodland in 1991 to be near family. He soon took on a second career there as a Realtor with John Lynch and Associates.
Friends remember him as a giving person -- one area he donated time to was as a reserve police officer in Davis. Family members said they will remember him as a loving husband, family man and friend to people from all walks of life. They also said he was a quiet, caring person who encouraged others, was hard working and honest, and combined integrity, compassion and knowledge.
Schacherbauer is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janis; son Rick James and his wife Barbara; son John David and his wife Patty; son Robert Jordan and his wife Beverly; grandchildren Carlos Purvis, Michael James and Matthew, Megan, Michael Jordan, Ryan and Robert Schacherbauer; siblings George, Leo and MaryAnn, all of Pekin, Ill.; those he thought of as his adopted children: Jill Goodhart, Rick Magner, Karl Rudert, John McKnight, Joe Callori, among others; and close friends, including Floyd and Chris Richmond, Al and Margaret Rinaldo and Eulonda Nardiello.
A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Christian Church Disciples of Christ at 509 College St. in Woodland.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, Yolo Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
SCHAEFFER
Peter Moritz Schaeffer
Peter Moritz Schaeffer, a professor of German at UC Davis, died June 28, 2003, in Sacramento. He was 73.
A native of Breslau, Germany, he was born May 14, 1930. He studied both theology and literature, receiving his licentiate in theology from the University of Ottawa in 1959 and his doctorate from the department of Germanic languages and literatures at Princeton University in 1970.
He taught at Princeton from 1970-74, then at UC Berkeley from 1974-76 before joining the UCD department of German and Russian in 1976.
Schaeffer's dedication to his students received special recognition when he was presented with UCD's Outstanding Adviser Award in 1989 and Outstanding Mentor Award in 1996. A passionate teacher, he gave selflessly of his time, electing yearly to teach, on an overload basis, courses in religious studies, classic and medieval studies, in addition to his course load in German, a colleague said.
He was also an accomplished pianist who offered annual concerts on the UCD campus. He often treated his students, friends and colleagues to his playing in his Davis home.
He is survived by his wife Maria Kallai, sisters Susanne Manovill and Irene Stockton, sons Stephen and Raymond Kallai and their families, nephews David and Philip Manovill and their families, and nieces Jessica and Carlisle and their families.
A memorial service is planned for November on the UCD campus.
SCHAFER
Priscilla June Schafer
Priscilla June Schafer died unexpectedly following an open-heart surgery at Sutter Memorial Hospital Thursday, May 15, 2003, at age 62.
Born Aug. 1, 1940, in Redding, Mrs. Schafer was the daughter of Ida Mae Parker and the late Daniel Parker. She marriage Ronald Schafer in July 12, 1969. She worked at Woodland Clinic for 17 years, and 11 years for UCD Medical Center until her retirement in April 2001. She was an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She also served as host family to visiting Japanese exchange students for seven years, and a volunteer with Woodland Fire Department bicycle program for two years.
Survivors include her husband of over 33 years, Ronald Schafer; children, Cordellia (Corkey) Mapalo and her husband Alan, Pauletta (Leetta) Feuerstein and her husband Mark, and Lloyd (Dino) Pyle; grandchildren, Robert Mapalo and his wife Anne, Stephanie Gomez, Christopher Mapalo, Daniel Feuerstein, Amy Feuerstein; and great-grandchildren, Christian Gomez, Richard Abston, and Abby Mapalo, all of Woodland; mother, Ida Mae Parker; brothers, Daniel Parker and wife Beverly, and Charlie Parker; and sisters, Pat Wright and husband Jack, and Pauletta Haley and husband Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodland. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church.
SCHANTZ
SUDDEN DEATH - Mrs. Schantz, wife of J.P. Schantz, the well known farmer, who lives a few miles north of Winters, was taken ill yesterday, and died in about an hour. Apoplexy was the cause. She was a large healthy woman, and her sudden death will be a sorrowful surprise to her many friends.

SCHAUPP
Clarence Leslie Schaupp
Clarence L. Schaupp died at his residence in "Hungry Hollow, " on Friday, June 21, 2002, at the age of 74. A native of Woodland, Mr. Schaupp was born on June 10, 1928, to the late Charles and Lillian (Schlotz) Schaupp, who were both Yolo County natives.
A lifelong resident of the Esparto area, Mr. Schaupp attended UC Berkeley, receiving a degree in chemical engineering. After graduation, he went on to serve in the Korean War as a first lieutenant in an ordinance battalion. Upon returning home he marriage Mary Anne Flesher, his wife of 49 years, at the Esparto Countryside Community Church, where he was an active member for 45 years. During his youth he was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Woodland.
Mr. Schaupp was a third generation farmer in Yolo County, and had been a member of the Yolo County Farm Bureau for more than 50 years, where he had also served as a director. Mr. Schaupp was also a former director of the Yolo County Soil Conservation District. A "lover" of magic, Mr. Schaupp was a life member of the Oakland Magic Circle having performed as "Clarence the Magician" for more than 40 years. He did shows for the Boy Scouts of America, nursing homes and convalescent hospitals as well as a number of charitable organizations, entertaining everyone with his "wizardry and sense of humor, " according to family members.
An active member of Lions Clubs International for 42 years, Mr. Schaupp was a charter member of the Esparto Lions Club and also the past president of the club. He obtained a perfect attendance record for all his years as member. He was also awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship for his work and dedication to Lions Clubs International.
He is survived by his wife Mary Anne Schaupp; two sons, Charles E. Schaupp of Esparto and Robert J. Schaupp and his wife Linda of Woodland; two daughters, Leslie A. Blair and husband James of Cool, and Nancy L. Link and husband Samuel of American Canyon. He is also survived by grandsons, Stephen Schaupp of Woodland, Christopher Blair of Cool; and granddaughters, Jennifer Schaupp of Woodland, Jessica Blair of Cool, and Nicole Link of American Canyon. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Corwin and husband Art, as well as by niece Zoe Corwin, all of Olympia, Wash.
A visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 24, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A funeral service is scheduled at the Countryside Community Church 26479 Grafton St., Esparto, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, with interment to follow at the Capay Cemetery in Esparto. Pastors Pamela Anderson and Marlowe Link will be officiating. All friends and relatives are invited to attend the services.
The family requests that memorial contributions in Mr. Schaupp's name be made to the Countryside Community Church Memorial Fund, the Lions Club Scholarship Fund or to Yolo Hospice.
