JoAnn Scott
JoAnn Scott, 72, died at her Woodland home on Saturday, May 14, 2005.
Born July 18, 1932 to Henry and Harriet (Peters) Bachelder of San Leandro, Mrs. Scotts family moved during her early years to Rio Vista, where she graduated from Rio Vista High School in 1950. She attended Sacramento City College prior to beginning work with Yolo County, working at both the Yolo General Hospital and Yolo County Mental Health for more than 20 years. She had been a resident of Yolo County for the past 38 years.
Mrs. Scott is survived by a daughter, Pam Von Brandt of Woodland; sons, Gregory Scott of Seattle, Wash., and Robert Scott of Sacramento. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her husband, George Scott, preceded her in death as did her parents.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22 in Woodland. Assisting the family with arrangements is Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.
TABER
Betty Jean Taber
Betty Jean Taber died peacefully on the morning of May 9, 2005, of congestive heart failure, surrounded by family. She was 79.
A graveside service open to family and friends begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Capay Cemetery, followed by a community gathering at the Countryside Church social hall in Esparto. A memorial service is planned for the following week. Details will be announced at a later date.
Born March 14, 1926, she was the fourth child born to Alice and Paul Stephens. She grew up in Esparto where she attended elementary school and in high school served as student body president her senior year.
She also attended the Esparto Countryside Church where she met her future husband, Ray "Louie" Taber of the Capay Valley. After high school and until she marriage, she attended UC Davis where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
She marriage Ray Taber on Feb. 15, 1947, and after he finished university studies, they moved to Davis. She spent the 58 years since her wedding raising her four boys, caring for six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was said to be a person of deep spiritual faith and enjoyed many activities at the Davis Community Church, such as serving several sessions as an ordained elder, Church Women United, study circles and Delta Phi. She was an active bridge player.
Throughout her life in Davis, she volunteered in many organizations, including Cub Scouts, Little League, Suicide Prevention and the Sutter Davis Auxiliary. She was also involved with her husband's professional engineering associations in groups such as The Structurettes and ASFE. The ASFE connection led to a travel group, where she traveled to China, Greece, Italy and throughout the United States.
Her family said she enjoyed seeing new things with her boys and husband on countless trips around California and enjoyed "down time" at the family house in Santa Cruz. She also loved the San Francisco Giants and spent many springs in Arizona watching the team prepare for their season.
An active member of the Yolo County Historical Society and Yolo County Historical Museum, she was proud of her family's pioneer heritage in western Yolo County, which dated to the founding of the Oakdale Ranch by her grandfather, George D. Stephens, and great-uncle, John D. Stephens, in the early 1850's. Her maternal grandfather, James Edgar, was the first postmaster of Esparto. Her parents were part of the initial group that formed the Countryside Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Stephens.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Taber of Davis; four sons, Harmon Taber and his wife Greta of Capay, Andy Taber and his wife Kim of Davis, Frank Taber of Sacramento and Steve Taber and his wife Sharon of Woodland.
She is further survived by her brother, Paul Stephens Jr. and his wife Dolores of Esparto; her sister, Patricia Armstrong of Davis; grandchildren, Stephenie Carlson of Sacramento, Lucas Taber of San Diego, Miles Taber of Los Angeles, Ben Taber of Sacramento, Alex Taber of Woodland and Will Taber of Woodland; great-granddaughter Cassidy Carlson of Sacramento; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made as gifts to the Davis Community Church, the Esparto Countryside Church or the American Heart Association. Burial arrangements are being made through McNary's Chapel.

TAYLOR
Irene (Stone) Taylor
Irene (Stone) Taylor died in Woodland Friday, March 26, 2004, at age 93.
Born Feb. 23, 1911, in Colorado, Mrs. Taylor was a former resident of Woodland. Later moved to Reno, Nev. where she retired on March 25, 1967 after 22 years of service with Bell Telephone. She became a lifetime member of the Pioneers. She moved back to Woodland in 1985.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeraldine Sharp of Woodland; son, Edmund Stone of Reno, Nev.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Taylor; children, Fred Stone and Tom Stone; and grandson, Edmund Stone Jr.
The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: There will be a private family service.
TAYLOR
Lendel C. Taylor
Graveside rites held here for Lendel Taylor
Graveside services were held in the Winters Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday for Lendel Coleson Taylor, 81, of Sacramento, who died Oct. 8, in a Sacramento Hospital.
He was a retired State Police Officer and a third-generation Winters native. His father, George Taylor, who died in November 1948, was the sexton at the Winters Cemetery.
Lendel was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army as a military policeman. After retiring from the Army as a first sergeant, he worked for 20 years with the State Police, retiring for the second time in 1971 as a sergeant.
He was a member of the California State Police Association and a Sacramento resident for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Pauline, and sons, George Len and Samuel “Glen” Taylor, all of Sacramento, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rollin Haile Taylor.
SCOTT
Kenneth Dorsey Scott
Kenneth Dorsey Scott died Thursday, June 9, 2005 in Esparto at age 78.
Mr. Scott was born April 8, 1927 to Daniel Earl Scott and Irene Swauger in Walla Walla, Wash. He had been a Yolo County resident for about four years. He owned Scott's Furniture in John Day, Ore. with his Dad and older brother, Haskel. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he and his wife, Carol, served a LDS mission to Florida.
Survivors include Mr. Scott's wife of 58 years, Carol; two daughters; eight sons; 48 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and his sister, Susan Sintay.
Services: Viewing is scheduled from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 850 Pioneer Ave., Woodland. A funeral will follow the viewing at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the Canyon City Cemetery in Canyon City, Ore. Davis Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
SCOTT
Lorraine L. Scott
Lorraine L. Scott passed away on Jan. 31, 2000, at the Woodland Memorial Hospital. Born in Tulare County, on Aug. 17, 1917, she was 82 years old.
Mrs. Scott worked as a quality control inspector for 35 years at the International Paper Company. She was a graduate of San Jose High School, a member of Eastern Star in San Jose, and a 17-year resident of Esparto, where she was active with local food distribution. She loved birds, animals and nature.
Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, of 43 years, Elmer L. Scott of Esparto; brother, Leo E. Dressler and his wife, Rolene, of Sacramento; granddaughters, Candice Bickford of Fremont and Dawn Thompson of Los Banos; nephew James E. Dressler, of Esparto.
She was preceded in death by her son, Terrill Bickford.
Friends were invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Winters Cemetery.

Marjorie Arlene (Stoltz) Scott
Marjorie Arlene (Stoltz) Scott died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at age 86.
Mrs. Scott was born Sept. 27, 1918 in Sterling, Colo. She had been a Yolo County resident for 69 years. She retired from Pacific Bell after 35 years of service. She was a member of Christ Community Fellowship.
Survivors include Mrs. Scott's daughter, Karen Scott Mills and her husband Gary of Napa; her son, Glen Scott and his wife Marcia of Haines, Alaska; her grandchildren, Tara Dunphy and her husband Michael of Eugene, Ore., Katie Shoemaker and her husband Jamey of Denham Springs, La., Heather Lindsey and her husband Tim of Ashland, Ore. and Elizabeth Scott of Haines, Alaska; her sister, Dorothy Gould of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Lester Scott and her parents, Edwin and Gladys Stoltz.
