Laurelia Miller
Laurella "Lu" Maurine (Davis) Alderson Miller died on March 21, 2001, at Woodland Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. She was 72.
Family members described her as a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining. She also loved animals, particularly cats.
Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Hershey, Neb., she has lived in California since 1935. She worked as a dispatcher at Yolo County Communications in the 1960s. After her second marriage in 1970, she worked for a short time at Central Bank, then joined her husband as co-owner and operator of the Davis Telephone Answering Service until 1973.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Charles Richard "Dick" Miller of Woodland, and three daughters - Lynn Parrish and her husband David of Visalia, Sandra Alves and her husband Jack, and Dorah Medina and her husband Ray, of Woodland.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cecile Parrish, Alivia Alves and James Vorce, and a great-grandson, Joshua Vorce. Other survivors are a stepson, Edward Miller of Portland, Ore.; stepdaughters Linda Ogner of Woodland and Rita Miller of West Sacramento; stepgrandchildren Margaret, Blair and Emily Francisco of Sacramento; sister-in-law Avis Davis of Alameda; brothers-in-law John D. "Jack" Miller and Harold Olmo of Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Miller was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Mae (Detwiler) Davis; father, Fay Elwin Davis; son, Walter "Walt" Alderson; and brother, Kenneth Elwyn Davis.
No services were held, at the request of the family. Inurnment will be in the family plot at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Yolo County Sheriffs Department Animal Services, 41831 Gibson Road, Woodland, 95775.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of Sacramento.
MILLER
Malcom R. Miller
Dr. Malcolm R. Miller, professor emeritus at the UC San Francisco School of Medicine, died on June 12, 2002 from complications after suffering a stroke. Born on Dec. 31, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was 86 years old.
Dr. Miller had a long and distinguished career as both a professor of medicine and researcher. In the course of his career, he traveled widely and spent three years helping to establish medical schools in Africa.
He had a wide range of interests, including literature, classical music, botany and ornithology. Dr. Miller grew up in Seattle, Washington, where he became an Eagle Scout. He received his Bachelor's degree in science from the University of Washington in 1937, a master's degree in science from Harvard University in 1939, a PhD in zoology from UCLA in 1942 and his medical degree in 1945 from the UCSF School of Medicine.
Dr. Miller served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps medical research unit toward the end of World War II. He joined the medical faculty at Stanford University in 1949, where he worked for nine years before beginning his teaching career. During his career, he received two Guggenheim Research Fellowships and a Fulbright scholarship.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dr. Jeanne M. Miller of Kentfield; daughter Tammie Harrington of Winters; granddaughter Alexa Harrington and great granddaughter Maia Harper Harrington Reep, both of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Robert V. Miller and Norman P. Miller of Los Angeles.
He was preceded in death by his son, Guy Harrington.
At Dr. Miller’s request, there will be no memorial service.

MILLER
Marion P. Miller
Marion Pauline Miller of Davis died on April 28, 2002, in Davis. She was 87.
She was born in Scotia, N.Y., on Sept. 28, 1914, to Agnes and Einer Christensen. Her family moved to Oakland when she was 9 years old.
She graduated from Castlemont High School in 1931. At the age of 18, she moved to Hawaii, where she met Milton A. Miller. They marriage in 1941, and were marriage for 60 years until his death in 2001.
In 1941, the couple moved to San Diego, where their first son, Lauren, was born in 1943. They moved to Davis in 1944, when her husband joined the faculty of the zoology department at UC Davis. A second son, Richard, was born in 1947.
She was involved with health issues and did volunteer work with the Well Baby Clinic. She was a consummate homemaker and had an encyclopedic command of medical and nutritional information.
She loved travel and adventure, and her travels took her to Bermuda, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Scotland and Hawaii. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her generous and kind spirit and her joie de vivre.
She is survived by her sons, Lauren, of Vancouver, and Richard, of El Dorado.
Friends of Marion and Milton Miller are invited to a celebratory remembrance of both of their lives that will take place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the family home at 639 A St., Davis.
MILLER
Vicki Lee Miller
Vicki Lee Miller, age 63, passed away March 28, 2003 at Merle West Medical Center, Klamath Falls, Ore.
Vicki was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Los Angeles, the oldest daughter of John and Myrtia Morley.
Vicki enjoyed the great outdoors and her animals deeply. She loved horses since she was a child and was known for rescuing any kind of stray or troubled animal she found. She also enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables and was well known for her excellent cooking. Her favorite hobby was leather craft and she lived to sew, but she most enjoyed being horseback with her dog on a long day's ride.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Chet Porterfield of Macdoel; daughter and son-in-law, Shayla and Duane Kasel of Simi Valley; sister, Marcia Kimura of Woodland; parents John and Myrtia Morley of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Kady and Kara Porterfield of Macdoel, Shalya L. Kasel of Des Moines, Iowa, and Thomas Kasel of Simi Valley; nephew and wife J. and Ofelia Kimura of Woodland; and nephew, Dustin Kimura of Chico; and great-nieces and nephews.

MILLIGAN
Elmer Dan Milligan
Elmer Dan Milligan died in Woodland Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at age 85.
Mr. Milligan was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Woodland, and had been a Yolo County resident his entire life. He graduated from Woodland High School, served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was later employed by Cobbledick-Kibbe Glass in Sacramento.
Survivors include his wife. Lucy A. Milligan; sons E. Dan Milligan and his wife Pat, of Las Vegas, and Michael Milligan and wife Anita, of Woodland; four grandchildren, Dan E. Milligan of Fort Dick, Brandon Milligan of Las Vegas, and Bryan and Shawn Milligan, both of Woodland; three great-grandchildren, Cody and Aimee Milligan of Las Vegas, and Daniel Jacob Milligan of Crescent City; as well as a cousin, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Milligan was preceded in death by parents Irene and Elmer Milligan.
MILLS
Joy Kay Mills
Joy Kay Mills, a long time Winters resident, passed away while at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento on July 23, 2002.
Born Dec. 29, 1934 to Russell and Minnie Hicks in Yuba, OK she was 67 years old. Mrs. Mills was one of four children. She was marriage to Hugh B. Mills "Tiny" June 14, 1952 and the two resided in Richmond for a short time before moving to Lake Tahoe. In 1960, they moved to Winters to raise their two girls. For approximately 20 years, she was employed as a CNA for several of the area’s convalescent hospitals. Her longest tenure was at Alderson’s Convalescent Hospital in Woodland. She was well known and liked by her community and she was very devoted to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Mills was predeceased by her husband on January 1, 1981. She is survived by her daughters Pamela K. Gilliam of Burson, and Debra Walker of Winters, and grandchildren, Edward R. Mills of Winters, Charlotte Peifer of Lodi, and Mathew and Tiffany Walker of Winters, brother Billy R. Hicks of Davis and sisters Ellen Rutledge of Dixon and Esther Brewer of Winters. Three great grandchildren also survive her.
Friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service for Mrs. Hicks on Friday, Aug. 2, at the Capay Cemetery, located at Highway 16 in Capay at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel.
MILNE
Carl C. Milne
Carl Christian Milne died peacefully Sept. 9, 2002, with his family at his side. Born Jan. 9 1925, in Kansas City, Mo., he was 77 years old. His young life was spent in Nebraska and on cattle ranches in Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona with his parents, Renee and Frank Milne.
The Milne family moved to Richmond in 1942. He met his wife-to-be, Bernice Brown, in 1943 and the couple marriage in February 1944. They began their marriage life in San Jose and in 1959, moved to Nevada City. In the grocery business for 30 years, he is most remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and constantly beaming smile.
He enjoyed square dancing. When he did not have a construction project under way at home, he could be found lending a hand to friends and family members. He was a member of the Nevada City Masonic Lodge No. 13.
In 1975, he retired. He and his wife took to the road in their travel trailer to tour the United States. Eventually, they settled down in Davis in 1990 where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice; their daughter, Carla Knee and her husband Rick of Davis; his grandson, Rich Knee III and his wife Desma of Woodland; and two great-grandchildren, Vivian and Eli Knee of Woodland. He will be greatly missed by all.
