SIMMONS

Cephus Odell Simmons (1st of 2 obits.)

Cephus Odell Simmons died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 in Lancaster at age 83.

Mr. Simmons was born April 5, 1922 in Esparto. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945; he was a life member of VFW Post 7283 in Lancaster and American Legion and Moose in Rosemont and Military Order of Cootie. In addition he was a past member of Thilomalhean Masonic Lodge No. 2 and served two years as Master.

Survivors include Mr. Simmons' wife, Patricia; his daughters, April Simmons and Anna Woods; his sons, Michael and Stephen; his stepchildren, Frona Scott, Teresa Sellers, Andre and Jack Orejel; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Evalena Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Canzanetta Simmons; his son, Corwin; his brother, Alfred; and his nephew, Brian.

Services: Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes. Interment will follow at Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cephus Odell Simmons (2nd of 2 obits.)

Cephus Odell Simmons entered into rest on Dec. 9, 2005 in Lancaster at the age of 83. Cephus was born April 5, 1922 in Esparto. Cephus is survived by his loving wife Patricia, sister Evalena Lee, sons Michael and Stephen, daughters April Simmons and Anna Woods, step-children Frona Scott, Teresa Sellers, Andre and Jack Orejel. Cephus is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Canzanetta Simmons, son Corwin, brother Alfred and nephew Brian. The family invites friends to attend visitation on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. and services on Friday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento. Interment will follow in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

SIMMONS

Mary Bado Simmons

Mary Bado Simmons of El Macero died in her sleep on Feb. 15, 2006. She was 99.

Born Oct. 28, 1907, in the Czech Republic, she was the daughter of Marie Holecek. Mary's only daughter, Sonicka, died many years ago in tragic circumstances.

She is survived by Vera, Gerry, Oliver, Sebastian, Vaclav and Milos.

SIMON

Mary Louise Simon

Mary Louise Simon died at UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at age 76.

Born March 20, 1926, in their family home on Saunders Way, Woodland, Mrs. Simon had been a Yolo County resident for 71 years. She attended Dingle Elementary School, and Woodland High School. She was active in the Woodland High School Tennis Club. She worked for the Yolo County tax collector's office at the Courthouse. She loved to spend time outside. Her hobbies included gardening.

Mrs. Simon is survived by her son, David Simon and wife Lorie; and grandson, Shawn Simon; daughter, Diane Bingham and husband Steve; grandson Matt Bingham and granddaughter, Rachel Bingham. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael R. Simon; mother, Gertrude Von Dorsten; father, Henry Von Dorsten; sister, Helen Schroeder; brother, Edward Von Dorsten; brother-in-law, Kenneth Schroeder and sister-in-law, Beverly Von Dorsten.

There will be a gathering with family and friends, call Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.

SIMON

Thomas 'Tom' Simon

Thomas 'Tom' Simon died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in Hays, Kansas, at age 48.

He was born Dec. 22, 1953 in Miskolc, Hungry.

Mr. Simon spent the first three years of his life in Hungary and when he came to the United States he lived in Cleveland, Ohio and then in Monterey. He came to Woodland in 1966 with his family and attended Dingle Elementary and Woodland High.

He went to work for Western Geophysical Co. and worked there for 17 years. He then went to Paragon Geophysical Co. and worked on the road until he settled in Hays, Kansas.

According to family members, "he was a kind and gentle soul" and "whoever had the privilege to meet him liked him, " saying "he was easy to like but difficult to know."

Mr. Simon is survived by parents Stephen and Margaret Simon of Woodland son Miles S. Simon of Florida, sister Eva Lowe and husband Gary, of San Leandro, and brother Gabe and wife Yumi, of Guam.

He is also survived by uncle George Gyuris and wife Agnes and their children, all of Hungary.

A memorial mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Holy Rosary Church in Woodland.

Family requests memorials be directed to the Holy Rosary Church Building Fund.

Kraft Bros. Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

SIMONS

Carlene Joy Simons

Carlene Joy Simons died Monday, March 28, 2005 at age 67.

Mrs. Simons was born May 4, 1937 in Woodland to the late Carl and Marie Emily Silva Summ. She had lived in Yolo County for 57 years. She worked at the Woodland Hotel as a hairdresser for more than 20 years. As a youth she participated in several local beauty pageants, being sponsored by the Woodland Fire Department.

Survivors include Mrs. Simons' children, John Simons of Georgetown, Jeremy Simons of Greenwood, Michele Elmore and Melinda Wriedt both of Placerville, Mary Chandler of Visalia and Marcella Stark of Mather; 11 grandchildren; her brother, Robert Summ; her cousin, Jeannie Powell and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Simons' name be directed to Canine Companions for Independence, P.O. Box 446, Santa Rosa, 95402.

Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Simons, a private funeral service for family members will be held. Interment will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

SINGH

Subran Singh

Mr. Subran Singh passed away on July 1, 2004. His children were at his bedside in the Intensive Care unit at Sacramento General Hospital. Born on Oct. 3, 1924 in the Fiji Islands, Mr. Singh brought his entire family to Winters in 1966. He always felt that this was one of his greatest accomplishments in life. He worked at American Home foods for 25 years and eventually retired in 1991. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jagindar K. Singh. Mr. Singh leaves behind his seven children, Alice Singh of Winters, Meet Lea of Hilmar, Carol Culver of El Dorado Hills, Janis Prasad of Sacramento, Sarjeet, Kandy and John Singh of Winters. Also, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. Mr. Singh will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who cherished his family. Funeral service and witness cremation were held on July 7, at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Mortuary.

SINGLETON

Jean Singleton

Jean Singleton, 78, of Winters passed away in a Davis hospital after a brief illness on Feb. 10, 2002. She was born in Sacramento, On April 16, 1923 and lived in Winters for the past 26 years. She was primarily a housewife, but from 1979-1984 she worked part-time at UC Davis.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe Singleton of Winters; sons, Patrick Singleton of Benicia and Jeff Singleton of Winters; grandson Andrew Singleton.

At her request no services will be held. Inurnment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Sacramento. The family prefers donations to the Winters Library Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia.
