William F. "Bill" Singleton
William F. "Bill" Singleton passed away suddenly at Woodland Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002. He was born on January 27, 1917, in Ducor, to Claud F. and Annie Belle (Christmas) Singleton.
Mr. Singleton moved to Winters with his family in 1931 and graduated from Winters High School in 1935, where he was active in all sports. After studying agriculture at the University of California at Davis, he went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and then was drafted into the Army in 1942. He was trained as an aircraft mechanic and then served as a crew chief in the Army Air Corps on C-47s, becoming an instructor and serving at various air bases all over the United States. He marriage Marjorie (Herron) on July 21, 1943 while still active in the Army Air Corps. At the conclusion of World War II, "Bill" as honorably discharged from the military and returned to Yolo County to again work with his father, and became a partner in the family ranching business. He continued until his retirement in 1972, when he sold the ranch property in Winters and relocated to Woodland to enjoy his leisure time.
Bill loved being a "Call Aggie" and has always maintained a very active position in the community. He enjoyed working with the Future Farmers of America, the 4-H Club and was an active member of the Landmark Buckeye Masonic Lodge F & A M #195 of Esparto, for more than 50 years. His spare time was spent working in metal crafts, designing and fabricating equipment in his workshop for his friends to use in the farming business. anything to do with making some sort of equipment work better was a challenge to him. Bill and his wife were avid travelers, and spent time in Japan, Hawaii, Alaska and traveled all over the United States including trips to the East Coast. Nothing was more special to him than to be active with his friends and companions on the golf course at the Yolo Fliers Club. Bill could be seen most days enjoying the company of his lifelong friends and golfing partners either on the course or in the clubhouse, where he felt truly at home.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie; daughters Sue Enos and her husband Mike and Linda Cotner, all of Woodland; grandchildren Michael Cotner and wife Sarri, Lisa Schafer and significant other Ray Hernandez, all of Woodland. Bret Schafer and wife Tina of Placerville; great-grandchildren Alexandra Hernandez and Syndie Cotner of Woodland and Brianna and Samantha Schafer of Placerville and his sister Ruth Hartwig and her husband Kurt of Woodland.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 25, at the Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland. Chaplain Donna Waterman of Woodland Memorial Hospital officiated. No visitation was scheduled prior to the service. The Masonic Lodge rites were conducted in accordance with Mr. Singleton's wishes. Interment followed immediately at Monument Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Singleton's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
SIVERTS
Elnor N. Siverts
Elnor N. Siverts died May 29, 2000, at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital of a lung disease. Born Nov. 23, 1919, in Twin Falls, Idaho, she was 80.
She lived near the Madison-Dunnigan cutoff at Highway 505 for 35 years and was a homemaker and loving mother of five daughters, Sandy, Nancy, Jackie, Jan and Terri. She and her husband Jack sent the girls to Clover School and to Esparto schools.
She was a telephone switchboard operator during World War II and a receptionist at the Davis Community Hospital when it was located on County Road 99 in the 1960s. She was very active in the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Woodland Chapter. She loved gardening, shopping and was partial to dachshunds as her faithful companions.
After living in Yolo County for 35 years, she moved to Boise, Idaho, to care for her father until he died, and she then moved to West Point, where she lived for 11 years.
She lived at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital for the last 3 1/2 years, where she received excellent nursing care with lots of love and hugs. The nursing staff all grieved at the loss of Elnor and said she will truly be missed, and that she was 'a lovely lady, who always had good things to say about her 'girls.' '
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jan Lozow of Las Vegas.
She is survived by four daughters, Sandy Maynard and her husband Paul of West Point, Nancy Eckerly of Bemidji, Minn., Jackie Timothy and her husband Ron of Woodland and Terri Siverts; eight grandchildren, Brad and Mike Maynard, Sherrie Yarbough and her husband Ken, Sara Bicker and her husband Shawn of Las Vegas, Dustin and Brooke Timothy, David Siverts and Margaret Holmes; and six great grandchildren, Ashley and Erin Maynard, Cameron and Cooper Maynard, Kala and Kobie Yarbough.
She also is survived by her sister, Muriel Murphy and her husband of Toppenish, Wash.; and 10 nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1616 West St., Woodland. Senior Pastor Mel Beals will officiate. Interment will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park of Woodland.
All friends are encouraged to gather with the family at Ron and Jackie's residence for lunch and fellowship.
A reception will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in the patio area at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital. All residents and nursing staff are encouraged to come and celebrate her life with the family.
Memorials are requested to be sent to the St. John's Chapel Building Fund at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, 135 Woodland Ave., Woodland, CA 95695.

SKELLCHOCK
Bernard "Ben" Skellchock
Bernard "Ben" Skellchock died in Woodland Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at age 84.
Mr. Skellchock was born Feb. 5, 1921 in Philadelphia to the late John and Mary Skellchock. He had been a Yolo County resident for 56 years. He served in U.S. Army Air Forces in France, England and McClellan Air Force Base during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks. He and his wife, Wanda, operated the Yolo Theatre and the Sunset Drive-in Theatre during the '50s and '60s. He later worked for the Yolo County Fair.
Survivors include Mr. Skellchock's daughter, Sally Miller and her husband Glen of Oroville; his son, Robert Skellchock and his wife Gail of Woodland; his grandchildren, Julie Arp of Galt, Tiffany Brown of Hawaii and Derek Skellchock of Westminster, Colo.; six great-grandchildren and his brother, John Skellchock of Pinole. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Wanda.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Skellchock's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mr. Skellchock, services will be private. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
SLAUGHTER
Johnnie Slaughter
Johnnie Slaughter died in Guinda Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at age 93.
Born Oct. 11, 1910, in Kerens, Texas, Mr. Slaughter had been a Yolo County resident for 41 years. He attended Elm flat school, Bishop College and Marshall College. He was a farmer and restaurant entrepreneur.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Slaughter of Guinda; daughters, Minnie Cooper of Vallejo and Laurette Stovall of Inglewood; sons, Aldric Slaughter of Richmond, and Wardell Slaughter of Oakland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amanda Slaughter; and grandson, Randy.
Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Guinda Methodist Church, with a burial to follow at Capay Cemetery.
SLICHTER
Jeffrey L. Slichter
Jeffrey Lynn Slichter of Minneapolis, Minn., died June 9, 2000. He was 47.
Private services were held.
He was born in Oakland on Dec. 18, 1952, and lived in San Leandro and Davis. In 1985 he moved to Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia Slichter of Walnut Creek; three brothers, Paul Slichter of Livermore, his twin Chris Slichter, and Donald Slichter, both of Davis; and two sisters, Donna Ventura of Pleasanton and Marilou Crowell of Rogue River, Ore.
SLIFKA
Julia E. Slifka
Julia Edith Slifka died on Dec. 8, 1999. Born on July 3, 1911, she was 88.
She lived in Racine, Wis., with her husband, Andrew Slifka. She enjoyed family gatherings, maintained Slovak traditions, participated in many church activities, baked, bowled and spent evenings with friends playing cards.
The couple moved to Davis from Racine 3 1/2 years ago. Julia struggled with dementia for many years but even in her last year she still remembered her hymns and evening prayer. Her faith never wavered.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Rosalie Haluska, who immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia around the turn of the century. She is also was preceded in death by her in-laws, Andrew and Susanna Slifka, also immigrants from Czechoslovakia; three brothers, John, Steve and Martin; two sisters, Anna and Mary; and two sisters-in-law, Susan and Mary.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Andrew Slifka Sr. of Davis; brother, Joseph Haluska of Jefferson, Wis., and his wife LoRene; sister-in-law, Elizabeth King of Racine, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Jr. and Mavis Slifka of Littleton, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Rosalie and Larry Vanderhoef of Davis; and son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Janet Slifka of Ventura.
She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Dana Joi Savage and her husband Brian of Highland Ranch, Colo., Kim Eickmann and her husband Philip of Littleton, Colo., Andrew Slifka III of Longmont, Colo., Susan Vanderhoef of Richmond, Jonathan Vanderhoef and his wife Nicole Pence of Ithaca, N.Y., Kristi Slifka of Ventura and Cori Slifka of Seattle, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Nowlan Savage and Myles and Jules Eickmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Our Faith Lutheran Church, 1801 Oak Ave. in Davis.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pentecost Lutheran Church, 2213 Coolidge Ave., Racine, WI, 53403. This is where she was baptized, confirmed, marriage and where she remained a member. Donors may also send contributions to a charity of their choice.
SLIVKOV
Betty Heberling Slivkov
Betty Slivkov, 62, died Friday, April 4, 1986. She was a Yolo County court clerk for 13 years, and she lived in the Sacramento area since 1951.
Her children were listed as: Sharon Slivkoy, Robert R. Slivkoy, and Kris Manley. She had three grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held, and the family preferred memorials directed to The American Cancer Society or the Sacramento Mercy Hospice. The River City Funeral Chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
