Mary Lawrence
Mary Lawrence died in Woodland, Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at age 80.
Miss Lawrence was born July 19, 1924 in Cordele, Ga. She had been a Yolo County resident for four years. She was a writer in the advertising, entertainment and legal professions.
Survivors include Miss Lawrence's sisters, Geraldine Brown of Los Angeles and Nellie Gordon of Daytona Beach, Fla. and her ex-husband, Tom Vukodinovich of Woodland. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lula; her father, Frank; her sisters, Thelma and Doris and her brothers, George, Frank and Raymond.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Miss Lawrence, no services are scheduled. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
LAWSON
Elizabeth Lawson
Mrs. Elizabeth Lawson, mother of Mrs. W.J. Price, died at the residence of her daughter, near Buckeye, on March 27th (1890), aged 78 years, nine months and twelve days. She was a member of the Baptist church of which she had been an earnest, consistent communicant for nearly forty years. She leaves five sons, two daughters and over one hundred grand and great grandchildren. Three of her children are on this coast; the balance reside in Missouri. The funeral took place from the lady's house in Cottonwood, her remains being interred in that place, and was conducted by Rev. T.R. Bowles, of this place.

John D. Lawson
LAWSON - In Woodland (Yolo Co.), July 13, 1917, John D. LAWSON, husband of Mrs. Jane Lawson, father of Mrs. Wallace BONDS, William H., Robert G. and Edward B. Lawson of Woodland, and James B. Lawson of Oakland, a native of Tennessee, aged 84 years, 11 months and 28 days.

LAZARO
Joseph Lazaro
Joseph Lazaro died following a four and one half years battle with cancer in East Plumas District Hospital Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at age 76.
Born Oct. 12, 1925, in Mankus Corner, Mr. Lazaro had been an Esparto residence for 30 years and had resided in Portola for the past eight years. He was a carpenter and was a member of Union Local 160. He had also operated the family apricot ranch and drying yard - "Lazaro Ranches." During World War II, he served as a radioman aboard the U.S.S. Robinson - DD562 from 1943 to 1946. He was a 45 years member of the V.F.W. of Woodland Post, 40 years member of Woodland Elks Lodge, four years member of American Legion Post No. 329, Portola; and also a member of Tin Can Sailors Association.
Mr. Lazaro is survived by his wife, Betty Lazaro of Portola; daughters, Evelyn Mihal of Sacramento, Roxanne Millhollin of Esparto, Dodie Truitt of Woodland and Althea Frankel of Kings Beach; daughter-in-law, Tina Mota of Sacramento; and sons, Joe III, also of Sacramento and Jerry Lazaro of Woodland.
He is also survived by his sisters, Connie Perrier of Colusa, Ramona Winters of Williams, Maryanna Husted of Apache Junction, Ariz., Rose Lazaro of Carson City, Nev., and Ann Roberts of Topeka, Kan.; brother, Tony of Carson City, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lazaro was preceded in death by his son, James Lazaro.
A graveside inurnment service in scheduled at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Esparto Cemetery. Meet at Esparto High School at 1:30 p.m.

HERR
Charles William Herr
Charles William Herr died in Woodland Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at age 85.
Born Jan. 18, 1918, in LaFayette, Ohio, Mr. Herr had been a resident of Knights Landing and Sutter County for 49 years. He served with the U.S. Army as a gunner during World War II. He worked as a licensed A&E mechanic in Yolo and Sutter counties and was a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilot Association, Experimental Aircraft Association and National Rifle Association. He was also a member of Gideons International and active in Gideon Bible Program.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Anna Mae (Sutterlin) Herr of Knights Landing; daughter, Annette Herr of Sacramento; sons, David William Herr and wife Sharon of Patterson, Paul Charles Herr and wife Christine of Pasco, Wash., and Jonathon Lee Herr and wife Mary Beth of Woodland; brothers, John, Wally and David Herr; sisters, Betty Herr, Gertrude Kraus and Margaret Kuglin; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Scott and Gertrude E. (Ball) Herr; and sister, Bernice Hensley.
The family requests memorials be directed to Gideons International, P.O. Box 773, Woodland, 95776. Arrangements are under the direction Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at First Baptist Church, 1616 West St., Woodland, with Pastor Mel Beals, officiating. No visitation prior to service. Private interment will be in Veteran's Section, Woodland Cemetery.
HERRERA
Jessie M. Herrera
Jessie M. Herrera of West Sacramento died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at age 86.
Mrs. Herrera was born Sept. 15, 1919 in Tucson, Ariz. She had been a West Sacramento resident for 42 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include Mrs. Herrera's children, Margaret, Marina, Pauline, Paul, Barbara, Ester and Anthony; her stepsons, Leonard and Richard; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard.
Services: Private entombment is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento. Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes is assisting the family with arrangements.
HESS
Helen Hess
Helen Hess died at Palm Gardens in Woodland on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at age 90.
Born Oct. 3, 1912, in Morton County, N.D., Mrs. Hess had been a Yolo County resident for 63 years. She was employed by Woolworth for 20 years as a clerk. She was a member of Esparto Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and former member of the American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son, Charles A. Hess of Woodland; daughter, Suellen Earnest and husband Bill Olympia of Washington; grandchildren, Jeffrey A. McAfee of Sacramento and Brent C. McAfee of Cummings, Ga., Patti Steban of Olympia, Wash., and Theresa Hirsh of Puyallup, Wash.; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Walton, Jenny Vannucci and Easter Eaton, all of Woodland; and brother, Herb Herrmann of Woodland. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Hess on July 22, 1998.
The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice; or the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at American Lutheran Church, Woodland.
SNEDEKER
Steve Snedeker
Steve Snedeker passed away on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 in Paradise. He was 59. Steve was born on Jan. 2, 1946 in Palo Alto to Virginia and Harold Snedeker. Steve grew up in Menlo Park and graduated from Menlo Atherton High School in 1963. After graduating from high school Steve attended Chico State. Steve received his bachelor's degree in 1967 in English, a teaching credential in 1972, and a master's degree in Corrections in 1976. He continued his educational studies at California State University, Sacramento, receiving his administrative services credential in 1988 and his second master's degree in Educational Administration in 1992. Steve served in the Navy Reserve in 1969.
Steve was employed as Principal of Fort Bragg High School for the past 10 years. Steve was Assistant Principal at Colusa High School (1994-96), Bilingual Resource Specialist for Butte County Office of Education (1982-1994), Teacher/English Language for Woodland Adult Education (1989-1993), Teacher/Counselor in Priest River, Idaho (1978-82), Teacher at Fouts Springs Boys Ranch in Stonyford (1972-1973), and an English Instructor at Chico State (1967-1969). Steve served in education for 38 years.
Steve was an outstanding educational leader. He was a valued member of his staff and an integral part of the school community. Steve was committed to all students, teachers and staff members he worked with. Steve's first and only consideration was always "what's best for the students." His character strengths were demonstrated in his keen intellect, a sense of humor, resourcefulness, work ethic and a commitment to improving public education. He was proud of his experience working with Hispanic students and their families and his ability to speak Spanish fluently, which served him well in working in public education.
Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 10 years, Debby. His two children, Darin and Kari Snedeker; five stepchildren, Paul Linton, Nicholas Driessel, Melissa Mallen, Rebecca Driessel, Jacob Driessel. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Snedeker; three brothers, Scott, Mark, and Eric Snedeker. His father, Harold preceded him in death in 1972. Steve was supported in life with many nieces, nephews, and relatives who will deeply miss him.
The family has asked that any donations may be made to Fort Bragg High School/ ESL program in memory of Steve. A public memorial is planned in Fort Bragg on Jan. 21, 2 p.m. at the Eagles Hall Building (210 North Corry St., Fort Bragg).
