Elaine Marie "Mom" Spitzer
Elaine Marie "Mom" Spitzer of Woodland died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005 at age 75.
Mrs. Spitzer was born May 4, 1930 in Butte, Mont. She had been a Yolo County resident for 40 years. She worked for 15 years as an insurance claims processor at Woodland Healthcare.
Survivors include Mrs. Spitzer's husband of 40 years, Ernie Spitzer; her daughter, Lisa Colvin; her sons, Jack Devine, Mike Devine and Greg Devine; her stepdaughters, Pamela Wolf, Debra Horness, Donna Spitzer and Julie Johns; her stepson, Rick Spitzer; her grandchildren, Anelise Colvin, Matt, Robyn and Sean Devine, Isaac, Jacob and Elle Wolf, Leah Johnston, Mark, David and Mary Horness, Rikki, Jesse and Cody Spitzer, Tami and Tony Johns, Donnie Bernash, Daniel and Devin Honeycutt; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Darlene Hylton; and her brothers, Allan, Aldan, Pete and Paul LeBeck and Arthur Galahan.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Spitzer's name be directed to Woodland Healthcare Oncology Department, 1321 Cottonwood Dr., Woodland 95695.
Services: A celebration of Mrs. Spitzer's life is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at John Rogers Hall, Yolo County Fairgrounds on Gum Avenue, Woodland. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
SPIVA
Thomas "Tom" Leroy Spiva
Thomas "Tom" Leroy Spiva died at his home in Esparto Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006 at age 78.
Mr. Spiva was born June 24, 1927 in Olustee, Okla. He had been a Yolo County resident for 48 years. He was a graduate of Olustee High School and Altus Junior College, both in Oklahoma. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946. After the war, he worked for Northrup King Seed Company from 1948 to 1958; owned Barber-Rowland Farm Supply in Esparto from 1958 to 1992; and after retiring became a consultant to Wilbur-Ellis Company and Agriform Farm Supply. He was an elder of Countryside Community Church in Esparto. He was a life member of Landmark-Buckeye Lodge No. 195 of Free and Accepted Masons, Esparto Lions, where he was also past president, Esparto VFW and Woodland Elks Lodge No. 1299. He also served as a trustee on the Esparto School Board and was a volunteer for the Yolo County Sheriff's Department STARS program.
Survivors include Mr. Spiva's wife of 58 years, Wanda G. Spiva of Esparto; his daughter, Carol Ann Spiva of Woodland; his sons, George P. Spiva of Esparto, Joseph L. Spiva and his wife Myrna of Winters and James T. Spiva; his grandchildren, Jeremy Johnston of Woodland, Jedediah Johnston of Winters, Benjamin Spiva of Lubbock, Texas, Amanda Spiva of Davis, Lela Spiva and Nathan Covington, both of Winters, and Tristan, Damon and Nicole Spiva all of Esparto; his great-grandchildren, Austin and Kambree Spiva of Lubbock, Texas; and his sisters, Nell Kimbell of Springfield, Mo. and Gwen Sanchez of San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pleasant L. and Mamie G. Spiva and his sister, Betty Simpson.
The family requests flowers for the service on Tuesday, Jan. 24 to be delivered before 11 a.m. to Heidrick Ag History Center, 126 Hays Lane, Woodland. For memorials in Mr. Spiva's name are to be directed to Woodland Christian School, Esparto Fire Department, Landmark-Buckeye Masonic Lodge No. 195 or Countryside Community Church.

SPRACKLEN
Dale R. Spracklen
Funeral services for Dale R. Spracklen, 78, of Vacaville, was held at 10 a.m., May 10, 1999 at McCune Garden Chapel. Burial followed at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Born March 10, 1921, in Tower Hill, Illinois, Mr. Spracklen died May 5, 1999, in Winters.
A longtime resident of Vacaville, he worked for Hastings Island in Rio Vista for 15 years and also worked for J&J Auto for 10 years. He was also a member of Veterans Association of San Jose.
He is survived by his daughters, E. Lois Mackie of San Jose, Peggy Ann Dahringer of Illinois; son, Ray of Winters; brother Wilmer of Pekin, Illinois; sister, Opel of Pekin; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

SPRECKELS
Dorothy Belle Endicott Spreckels
Dorothy Belle Endicott Spreckels died peacefully of old age in her Rumsey home Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at the age of 94. She was surrounded by her family.
Born in Myrtle Creek, Ore., Mrs. Spreckels resided in California most of her adult life. According to her family members, "she was inspired by many."
Mrs. Spreckels is survived by her daughter, Gretchen Ceteras, and son-in-law, John; grandchildren, Kristin Jakobsen Shaw, Nancy Jakobsen Vanderhoff, Paul Jakobsen, and Noah Ceteras; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph B. Spreckels, in 1974; and daughter, Delilah Jakobsen, in 1993.
A private burial service will be held at the family cemetery in Oakland, Ore.
SPRINGER
Benjamin "Ben" Springer
Benjamin "Ben" Springer of Stanwood, Wash., died Nov. 27, 2004, from injuries sustained in a helicopter crash. He was 39.
Born in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 14, 1965, he graduated from high school in Newport, Ore., in 1983. In 1987, he received a bachelor's degree from Life Bible College in California and was ordained with the Foursquare Church. He met his wife at LBC and they marriage in Woodburn, Ore., on June 28, 1986.
He was a pilot for 20 years and for the last seven years was a rescue helicopter pilot for Airlift Northwest. He was an active leader and member of Warm Beach Community Church in Stanwood, Wash.
His family says his passions in life were Christian missions, building, flying, karate and writing for magazines. He was very involved with his children and loved his wife dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carol; and his children, Emily, Abigail, Nathaniel and Elizabeth.
He is further survived by his father, Don Paul of Kauai, Hawaii; his mother, Marianne Springer of Davis; his sisters, Janet Peiffer of Rocklin and Judy Weitz of Kailua, Hawaii; brother, Kevin Springer of Fountain Valley; and grandmother Verna Springer of San Clemente.
A memorial service was Saturday, Dec. 4, in Arlington, Wash. Burial was in Davis on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund for his children is being established through Warm Beach Community Church, 9620 188th St. NW, Stanwood, WA 98292.
SPRINGER
Lois Avalena Springer
Lois Avalena Springer died in her sleep Thursday, May 9, 2002, at age 93.
Born Dec. 5, 1908, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Springer was residing at The Californian Retirement Residence, Woodland. She was the youngest of five children of the late Louisa A. (Sperry) and John Lorenzo Mitchell. Her family moved to Chico when she was five. She graduated from Chico State College and began teaching in Sterling when she was 19. Her father died when she was 15, and she cared for her mother from the time she started teaching until her mother died. Mrs. Springer continued her teaching in Maxwell, and then Woodland. In 1942, she marriage Alphe L. Springer, a widower, who had a daughter, Thama. Lois quit teaching for six years to have three sons, and then returned to teaching at Dingle School. For most of her 39 year teaching career she taught fourth grade. Her last years of teaching were at Maxwell School in Woodland. She taught over 1, 000 children during her career.
In 1948, she, her husband and sons moved from their rented house to a home they purchased on the edge of Woodland. They spent the next 15 years enlarging and improving the existing building, she was doing quadruple duty as mother, teacher, wife and construction worker.
Mrs. Springer is survived by her daughter, Thama Morris of Placerville; and sons, Lon Springer of Woodland, Fred Springer and wife Sandy of Franklin, Tenn., and Blair Springer and wife Debbie of Elk Grove.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Vina Jacobson and husband Roger of Sonora, Glenda Williams and husband Blake of Lincoln, David Morris of Placerville, Liam, Nathan and Locke Springer of Franklin, Tenn., Zack Springer and wife Marianne of Walnut Creek, Beja Springer of Sacramento, and Katey and Brian Surjan of Elk Grove; great-grandchildren, Rori Alves and husband Danny and Holy Jacobson of Sacramento, Kelly Garrett and husband Jim and Patrick Williams of Lincoln; and great-great-granddaughter, Deanna Jo Garrett of Lincoln; and numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.
There will be a private interment in the family plot at Mary's Cemetery near Yolo.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 16, at the Woodland Christian Church, 509 College St., Woodland.

SPRINKLE
Robert R. Sprinkle
Robert R. Sprinkle died April 28, 2003 in Davis. He was 96.
The son of a Methodist minister, Robert Lee Sprinkle, and his wife, Margaret, Robert R. Sprinkle was born Feb. 6, 1907, in Santa Ana. He spent most of his life working as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, living primarily in Stockton and, for about 20 years, in Davis. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and photography.
Sprinkle was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris.
He is survived by his daughter, Renee Ault of Davis; grandchildren, Joseph P. Ault of Redwood Valley and Lynne Ault Lear of Sacramento; great-grandchildren, Scott Ault of Redwood Valley, Tim Ault of Ukiah, Jennifer Lear of Sacramento, Julee Carden of Woodland and Jamee and Mark Lear, both of Davis; and great-great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Ault, both of Redwood Valley, and Evan and Jack Carden, both of Woodland.
Private graveside services were held Thursday.
