Carl F. Poppe
Carl F. Poppe died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 in the early evening hours while at University Retirement Community in Davis. Born Nov. 2, 1911, in Winters he was 90 years old.
Mr. Poppe worked for Standard Oil Company of California as a welder for 31 years. He was also a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Air Force.
Mr. Poppe was marriage to Juanita Thompson for over 50 years. She preceded him in death April 25, 1996 at the age of 81. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spent his retirement years traveling throughout the United States, Alaska and Canada. Mr. Poppe belonged to the Elk's Club in Berkeley and the Berkeley Sons in Retirement.
Mr. Poppe was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Edith Poppe, his wife Juanita, and his brother William H. Poppe.
Two nieces, Barbara Barlow of Utah and Linda Scheive of Sacramento survive him.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept., 27, 2002 at the Winters Cemetery, 415 Cemetery Drive, Winters. Memorial contributions may be made in Carl F. Poppe's name to the Winters Health Care Foundation at 7 Main St., Winters, 95694.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.
PORTELLO
Pasqua L. Portello
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Pasqua Laurienti Portello will be held Tuesday in Davis. She died June 11, 2000. Born Feb. 9, 1915, in Manfredonia, Italy, she was 85.
She entered the United States at Ellis Island, N.Y., in 1921 to be reunited with her parents in San Francisco. She was a graduate of Bayview Elementary School, and of Galileo High School (Class of 1933). Pasqua marriage William Portello Sr. in November 1933.
Pasqua and her family moved to Arbuckle in 1937, and she lived on a ranch there for more than 60 years. During that span of time, the Portellos raised livestock and grew almonds and walnuts on their ranch. She was moving to her new home in Davis at the time of her death.
She loved opera and Italian music, and was an enthusiastic traveler. She continued to learn and take classes (particularly woodworking) until recently. Noted for her independence and speedy driving, she was also a frank and outspoken commentator on many subjects.
Proud to be an Italian-American, she shared her love of cooking (particularly biscotti), singing and sewing with her children and grandchildren, whose activities she also lovingly and enthusiastically attended. Her fun-loving ways, her jokes and her pranks reflected her view of life as a circus, and her role as a clown (Pagliacci).
She is survived by her sister, Mattia of Yakima, Wash.; her son, Les Portello and his wife Alison of Davis; her daughter, Vernette Marsh of Davis; nine grandchildren, William Portello, Joey Van Slyke, Charles Marsh, Bernadette Marsh, Leslie Marsh, Stephen Marsh, Antoinette LaKriz, Joseph Marsh and Annamarie Marsh and their families. She is also survived by her dear friend, Mrs. Leobelle Monroe of Arbuckle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Portello; her brother, Nick Laurienti; and her son-in-law, Floyd Marsh.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Newman Chapel, 514 C St. in Davis.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation in her name to a charity of their choice, to the Davis Senior Center or to the Italian Cultural Society, P.O. Box 189427, Sacramento, CA 95818.

Victor Allen Porter Jr.
Victor Allen Porter Jr. died unexpectedly Saturday, July 20, 2002, at age 10.
Born Sept. 16, 1991, in Richmond, Victor was the son of Linda D. James and the late Victor Allen Porter Sr. He had been a Dunnigan resident for the past eight years. He attended Arbuckle Elementary School and would have entered the sixth grade in the fall. He played Little League Baseball. He was a member of Arbuckle School band and played the trumpet.
Victor is survived by his mother, Linda James of Oakland; sisters, Victoria Porter and Tanisha Porter, both of Dunnigan, Lashona Ingraham, and Terisha Johnson, both of Oakland; brothers, Michael Porter of Dunnigan, William McCoy and Kenneth Lewis, both of Oakland; paternal grandparents, Geraldine Johnson and husband Eddie of Dunnigan; and numerous aunts; uncles; cousins and friends.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland, with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. in Greater Second Baptist Church, Woodland.
McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
PORTER
Vincent Gerald Porter
Vincent Gerald Porter died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, a drowning victim of the Sacramento River. He was 44.
Born in Oakland on July 21, 1960, to Ulysses and Geraldine (Thomas) Porter, he attended El Cerrito High School. Employed as a landscape contractor, Porter was a Sacramento resident for the past 20 years.
He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Johnson of Dunnigan; sisters, Veronica Keeton and Crystal Porter of Richmond; brothers, Ronald Porter of El Sobrante and Virgil Porter of Richmond; and an aunt, Ellen Tolliver of Washington, D.C.
Preceding him in death were his father, Ulysses Porter; twin brother, Victor Porter; brother, Donald Porter; and nephew, Victor Porter Jr.
Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory. Assisting the family is Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.

Clarence George Porteus
Retired Contractor Dies After Short Illness Here
Funeral services for Clarence George Porteus, who died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at his Woodland home, 166 Oak Street, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McNary funeral home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. He was 72.
Mr. Porteus was a native of New York State. He came to Woodland as a boy with his parents the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Porteus. He attended the local schools. As a young man, he entered the business of a building contractor in Woodland and he followed that occupation until his retirement in 1941. Since that time his attention has been occupied with his small farm and other property interests.
On June 17, 1896, Mr. Porteus was marriage to Rose Nethercott who survives him. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary June 17, 1946
The deceased was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. He had many friends throughout the community.
Surviving relatives include the wife, Mrs. Rose Porteus at the family home; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Porteus Krebs, Stockton, and three grandchildren, Charles Krebs Jr., Mary Jane and Robert Krebs, all of Stockton. A sister, Mrs. Eva J. Jackson, died in 1943.

PORTEUS
Rose Porteus
Mrs. Rose Porteus, 82, died in Woodland Clinic hospital yesterday afternoon, where she was taken after being stricken in her home that morning.
Mrs. Porteus, a native of Greenville, Ill., had lived in Woodland most of her life. She was the widow of Clarence Porteus, who died in 1947. Her home was at 166 Oak Street.
The daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Nethercott, Mrs. Porteus came to Woodland with her parents when she was 17. Before that the family had lived in Red Bluff.
She attended Hesperian college and marriage Clarence Porteus June 17, 1896.
Member of a large family, Mrs. Porteus was the last of nine children.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Krebs, of Stockton, three Grandchildren, Charles H. Krebs, Oakland; Mary Janey Krebs, Stockton, and Robert Krebs, Stockton, and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Porteus was a member of the Methodist Church, and was active in the church circle.
Funeral services will be held at the McNary funeral home at 10 a. m. Monday. Burial will be in the family plot in Woodland cemetery.
