DeVITA

Mark Gordon DeVita

Mark Gordon DeVita died unexpectedly on April 4, 2006, at his West Sacramento home. Born March 12, 1960, in Bakersfield, he was 36 years old.

He attended Bakersfield area schools until the family moved to Fairfield, where he attended Armijo High School. A laborer in the transportation industry, he had been a Yolo County resident for the past 10 years.

He is survived by his brother, Dave DeVita and his wife Viola; his niece, Julie DeVita; and nephews, Nick DeVita and Bucky Seeley, all of Woodland; and nephew, Carl Seeley of Yuba City.

Private family services will be held, with interment at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland.

Evergreen Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

DEWEES

Linda Sue Dewees

Linda Sue Dewees died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at age 56.

Born Oct. 10, 1947, in Oklahoma, she grew up in Arbuckle and was a 1965 Pierce High School graduate. She had been a longtime Woodland resident and most recently resided in Orangevale. She was employed by Vision Service Plan for 20 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Julie Dock and husband Allan of Folsom; son, Riley James Dock and wife Cory Mitchell of Colusa; grandchildren, Riley James Dock Jr., Amanda Sue Dock, Wyatt Dock, Jasmine "Lill" Elizabeth Magures, Ryan Ann John and Andrea Swearinger; and great-grandchildren, Cameron Burrows and Rose Marie Burrows. Also surviving are her sisters, Shelby Wren and husband Bill, Alice Dewees, all of Woodland, and Debra Foss and husband Steven of Sacramento; nieces, Diana Perrine, Karen Duncan, Sandra Mueller; and nephews, Dana Wren and Jarret Foss.

Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Arbuckle Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service of Colusa.

DEWEESE

Tony DeWeese

Tony DeWeese, dies at home

Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 12, in Sunset Chapel of the Chimes in Sacramento, for Tony DeWeese, 39, who died here on Oct. 2, 1991.

Inurnment was in the Sunset Lawn Memorial Park, Sacramento.

He is survived by two children, Shawn and Tony DeWeese, Jr., by his mother, Dorothy DeWeese, of Winters; a brother, Edward Peters; and a sister, Marlene Cody.

He was a native of Sacramento.

BACON

Gayle Evelyn Bacon

Gayle Evelyn Bacon died Nov. 8, 2004. She was 54.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sierra Health Foundation, 1321 Garden Highway in Sacramento.

Born June 11, 1950, to Dorothy and Oscar Bacon, she joined the office staff of the anthropology department at UC Davis in 1972 and was the management services officer in that department at the time of her retirement in 2001.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Dorothy Flagg Bacon; sister, Beverly Bacon; and grandmother, Ann Flagg.

She is survived by her partner, Claudia McEnerney of Sacramento; her father, Oscar Bacon and his wife Barbara of Davis; her sister, Bonnie and her husband Stephen Krisiak of Elk Grove; her niece, Stephanie Krisiak of Sacramento; and many friends.

The family requests that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 910 17th St., NW, Suite 413, Washington D.C. 20006.

BACCEI

Ivan Baccei

Ivan Baccei was one of Woodland, California's most legendary story tellers, olive curers, fisherman and pranksters.

From his early escapades with brother Nelson on the Best Ranch and school days at Laugenour, he became one of Woodland High's outstanding sprinters (1941) - setting a relay record that stood until the late 50s.

It was then he wooed Elizabeth (Betsy) Kram who he wed on Feb. 29, 1944.

In W.W. II, he served in the Army in Ie Shima and Okinawa.

As co-owner of Baccei Plasterers, he was dubbed the "Dobber" and left his signature around Yolo County including the Best home, the Orrick building and Vince's Restaurant.

In the 70s he began weekending at Dillon Beach and fishing for salmon commercially aboard his trusty Dago Dingy II.

In recent years, he and his buddies cast their lines for trout on McCloud Res.

He capped the 2003 season with 30 and 31 pound salmon catches at Dillon.

He was active in the Willow Oak Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, and at the age of 72 was honored for his heroic rescue of a youth from a burning car.

He was a longtime Woodland Pedro leaguer, most recently playing for the Esparto Fire Department.

Since retirement, he has been pleasing the palettes of family and friends with his olives.

Ivan is survived by his wife Elizabeth and sister Betty Dunton; son Bruce and wife Barbara, daughter Judy and husband Bill Plumb, daughter Susan Grimsrud, 10 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A service celebrating Ivan Baccei's life will be held at Willow Oak Hall, Road 97, Woodland, Oct. 29, 2003, 3 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Willow Oak Fire Department or Yolo County Hospice.

BAERTSCHI

David Harry Baertschi

David Harry Baertschi died Aug. 19, 2005, after a nine-month struggle with bone cancer (Ewing's sarcoma), at the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He was 46.

Private memorial services were held on Aug. 27 at the Bryant & Moore Chapel in Concord. A second memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Winthrop Street Baptist Church, 39 Winthrop St., Taunton, Mass., where many of his relatives reside.

Born in Redwood City to Harry and Marjorie Baertschi on April 26, 1959, he spent his early years in Southern and Central California - first in Duarte, a small city in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, and then in Fresno where he attended school through two years at CSU Fresno.

He then transferred to UC Berkeley, majoring in Chinese linguistics and Mandarin. In 1985 he earned his bachelor's degree. After graduating, he continued to live and work in the Berkeley/Oakland area, and in 1988 he secured a job as a disability analyst with the state of California, where he served for more than 17 years.

His family said he was a man of many interests and accomplishments, and he was legendary for his love of family and devotion to friends. It was his own gentle nature, genuine kindness and sense of humor that drew all of his loved ones together.

He was godfather to two of his nieces, Rebekah and Hannah. Even during the later stages of his illness, he was concerned about his wife Mimi and son David, as well as other family members.

He appreciated music of all kinds and enjoyed playing the piano. He sketched and painted throughout his brief life. A member of the Sierra Club, his outdoor interests were hiking and camping with his family, brothers, friends or with his dog, Lucas. He also enjoyed kayaking; on most of these occasions, he had his camera with him, photographing Mount Diablo in all four seasons.

He is survived by his wife, Mimi Duong, and son David Ly of Concord; his parents, Harry and Marjorie Baertschi of Davis; his sister, Lois Capozziello and her husband Darell of Woodland and their children Hannah and Nathan; his brothers, Philip and his wife Shannon of San Diego and their children Laurel and Rebekah, and Mark and his wife Carola of Dominguez Hills and their son Anthony and their granddaughter Mikaela.

Further survivors are his mother-in-law Au Duong of Saigon, Vietnam; and sister-in-law Lien Ha and her husband Henry and their children Thai, Phillip and Amy of Oakland; and the extended Baertschi-Hodgson family in New York, New England, Minnesota, Indiana and Switzerland.

BAEZA

Ramon G. Baeza

Ramon G. Baeza, a longtime Davis resident, died June 10, 2002, in Sacramento. He was 77.

He was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Mexico to Guadalupe and Isabel Baeza. In 1932, he moved to Davis, where he worked in agriculture. He worked as a machine operator for Anderson farms for approximately 40 years before retiring.

He was marriage to Refugia C. Hernandez in 1945 and the couple had six children. He was described as a hard-working man who was devoted to his work and family. He will be greatly missed by his family and by all those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Salvador G. Baeza, and his son, Enrique H. Baeza.

He is survived by his wife, Refugia H. Baeza, and five children, Eluira H., Etigenia H., Isabel H. and Guadalupe H., all of Davis, and Ramon H. Baeza of Woodland.

He is further survived by two brothers, Fortino C. Baeza of Sacramento and Pedno C. Baeza of Idaho; and three sisters, Carmen G. Baeza of Mexico, Senorina G. Baeza of Utah and Maria G. Baeza of Mexico. Fourteen grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews further survive him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a vigil service today from 4 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. The service will be at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St.

A funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, 200 W. 14th St. Interment will follow at the Davis Cemetery.
