MARTINEZ

Christopher Ramirez Martinez (1st of 2 obituaries)

Chris Martinez, a life long resident of Winters, died unexpectedly of heart failure on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at his home in Winters. Born on Oct. 4, 1949, in Woodland, he was 55 years old.

Chris was raised in Winters and graduated from Winters High School. He worked on the family ranch in Winters for many years driving all over Northern California as a parts runner. He had made many friends in the towns that he went to get the parts needed for the ranch. Chris was described as an avid sports fan and never missed any sporting event at the Winters High School. He was also an avid fan of UC Davis Athletics. Chris never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was an Icon of the Winters Community and was well liked by all. Chris had a great sense of humor and was quick to make a teasing comment, often bringing laughter and joy to all he interacted with. He will be greatly missed by the Winters Community.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Cristobal and Isabel Martinez and his nephew, Christopher F. Martinez.

He is survived by his brothers, Joseph R. Martinez and his wife Shelly, Emilio R. Martinez and Antonio Martinez and his wife Frances, all of Winters. He is further survived by his niece, Rosemary Martinez of Clearlake and nephews, Joseph Martinez, Ryan Martinez, and Brett Martinez all of Winters.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Gateway Chapel located at 205 Main Street in Winters. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Chris' name to the Winters Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 367, Winters, 95694. The staff of Davis Funeral Chapel would like to extend our condolences to Chris' family, we considered him our friend. He was always quick to help us out by unloading flowers at the church or cemetery, and of course, straightening our ties. Funerals in Winters will not be the same without Chris. We miss you Chris.

Chris Ramirez Martinez died at his home in Winters Thursday, March 10, 2005 at age 55.

Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Gateway Chapel, 205 Main St., Winters. Davis Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MARTINEZ

Evelyn Martinez

Evelyn Martinez died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Friday, March 25, 2005 at age six months.

Miss Martinez was born September 20, 2004 to Marcela Loreto and Ramon Martinez.

Survivors include her parents Marcela Loreto and Ramon Martinez of Woodland; her brother, Marcos Martinez of Woodland; her grandparents Maria and Jose Loreto, and Maria Rodriguez and Pedro Martinez, all of Jalisco, Mexico, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family requests memorials in hers name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

MARTINEZ

Frank “EJ” Martinez

Frank “EJ” Martinez, was born on January 13, 1977, EJ was 28 years old when he died on June 9, 2005.

He is survived by his mother Phyllis Blair, father, Frank R. Martinez, Jr., fiance, Jennifer Diehl, sister, Deanna Allen, nieces and a nephew.

EJ loved motorcycles, camping, snowboarding, skateboarding, water and being outdoors. He had a heart of gold. There was no better way to spell “friend.”

Memorial services will be held at Vaca Hills Chapel on Wednesday, June 22, at 6 p.m.

MARTINEZ

Grayce Evelyn Martinez

Grayce Evelyn Martinez died at Alderson's Convalescent Hospital Monday, July 1, 2002, at age 91.

Born Aug. 25, 1911 in Minn., Mrs. Martinez was a resident of Yolo County for 59 years. She was the daughter of the late John and Lilly Thiers.

Mrs. Martinez worked at Alderson's Convalescent Hospital and then at the UC Davis Primate Center when she retired. She was a member and past president of the Fraternal order of Eagles #2345 in Woodland.

Mrs. Martinez is survived by children Jimmie Freeman of Davis, Laverne Ganz of Knights Landing and Val Ganz of Woodland; sisters Ida June Wedin of Minnesota, Etta Josephine Marks of Woodland, and Alpha Marie Hebert of Davis.

She was preceded in death by daughter Delores Simon, six brothers and three sisters.

Respecting her wishes no service will be held.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MARTINEZ

Juan Zamaniego Martinez, Sr.

Juan Zamaniego Martinez Sr. died at Woodland Memorial Hospital Sunday, June 1, 2003, at age 68.

Born Aug. 29, 1934, in Carrillo Perro, Nayarit, Mexico, Mr. Martinez had a Woodland resident for 15 years. He also resided at Robbins for 33 years. He was a retired farm laborer last worked for Gary Dettling Farms, Woodland. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Alicia B. Martinez of Woodland; sons, Francisco B. Martinez of Sacramento, Juan B. Martinez Jr. and George B. Martinez, both of Woodland; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Antonio B. Martinez. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Twin Cities of Yuba City.

Services: Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 6 at Chapel of the Twin Cities, 715 Shasta St., Yuba City. A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, also at Chapel of the Twin Cities, with Rev. Richard Galicia of House of Prayer Church, Woodland officiating. Burial will be at Sutter Cemetery.

Julia R. Martinez (1st of 2 obituaries)

Julia R. Martinez, age 87, died in Bend, Ore. Sept. 16, 2005 following a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 8, 1918 in Sacramento and attended Sacramento schools. On July 10, 1938, she was united in marriage to the late Joseph L. Martinez in Sacramento. She was a life-long resident of Woodland until her final years where she resided with her loving daughter Sylvia in Bend, Ore. She was a homemaker and community volunteer. She was an active member of Holy Rosary Church for 55 years, a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, P.T.A. and a hospital auxiliary Pink Lady. She raised seven children, Carl, Roy, Larry and Sylvia Martinez along with Hope, Eva and Ross Hurtado.

Julia is survived by her children, Carl and his wife Louise, Larry and his wife Janice, all of Woodland, Sylvia and her husband David Colton of Bend, Ore., Eva of Woodland and Ross and his wife Lisa of Dixon.

Also surviving are grandchildren Joey Martinez, Sandra Creamer, Eric Martinez, Kevin and Kelly Nusz, Roy, Brian, Kenny and Craig Martinez all of Woodland; Lauren and Zachary Colton of Bend, Ore.; and Anthony and Nicholas Hurtado of Dixon. She is also survived by her brothers Abel and Al, sisters Pat and Josie all from Sacramento and by numerous great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband Joseph, son Roy and daughter Hope, sisters Margaret Casias, Mickie Saucedo, Beatrice Martinez, grandson Stephen and great-granddaughter Cassie.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. at McNary's Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial for Julia is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at the intersection of Walnut and Court streets, Woodland. Interment will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, located at 35036 County Road 22. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Glaucoma Foundation in her memory.

Interment will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

MARTINEZ

Julie A. Martinez

Julie Ann Martinez died in her Esparto home Nov. 10, 2001, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on April 2, 1961, in Woodland, she was 40 years old.

She grew up in Winters and was a 1979 graduate of Winters High School. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Winters and St. Martin's Church in Esparto. She was very involved in her children's school and sports activities. She was described by her family as the "family social planner, " and whenever there was a family event, she was the one who planned it.

She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Carrion Martinez, in 1993.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Jesse M. Martinez of Esparto; her mother, Anna Rubio Martinez of Winters; and her children, Jonathan Martinez, Jenna Martinez, Megan Martinez, Erin Martinez and Ashlee Martinez, all of Esparto.

She is also survived by her brother, Danny Martinez of Winters; sister, Juanita Martinez of Winters; and nieces and nephews, Jerod Martinez of Winters, Joseph Martinez of Redding, Matthew Carrasco of Winters, Jordan Carrasco of Winters, Marcus Carrasco of Winters, Kristin Schroeder of Winters, Laini Nance of Burlingame, Melissa Martinez of Sacramento and Marcy Martinez of Sacramento.

Friends are invited for the evening vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Third and Main streets in Winters. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's, with burial to follow at the Winters Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made in her name to the City of Hope Cancer Research Center in Duarte. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.
