BLAKEMORE

Claudia Faye Blakemore

Claudia Faye Blakemore died at her Dixon home on March 15, 2004, following a long battle with cancer. She was 50.

She was born March 26, 1953, to Lt. Col. David Sudbury and his wife, Gloria. She moved with her family to Loomis in 1966 after her father's retirement. In 1971, she graduated from Del Oro High School with honors. She later earned her associate's degree from Yuba Community College.

She had lived in Solano County for the past 24 years. She was employed by Steiner Real Estate for several years before going to work for Valley Administrators of Sacramento until December 2003. She was very active in local sports, including as a Little League supporter for more than 17 years.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Allen W. Blakemore of Dixon; sons, Chris Reich and Troy Blakemore of Sacramento; mother, Gloria Sudbury of Medford, Ore.; sister, Mimi Sudbury of Dixon; brother, David Sudbury of Davis; and nephew, Andrew Sudbury of Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that contributions be made in her memory to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 105 S. Second St., Dixon, CA 95620.

Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.

BLAKENEY

Wynona "Winnie" Weiser Blakeney

Wynona "Winnie" Weiser Blakeney passed away on Aug. 12, 2002, in Sacramento. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Dec. 6, 1909, she was 92 years old.

She marriage Harold Kinney in 1928 and moved from Illinois to California in 1940. She marriage her childhood friend, Robert A. Blakeney in 1972 and moved back to Decatur, Illinois. After her second husband passed away, she moved to Winters in 1994, where she lived for seven years.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kinney Chance, of Elverta; Granddaughter Patty Havens and husband Dacey, of Winters; grandson David Chance and wife Candace, of Oregon City, Oregon; great-grandchildren Barbara Havens, of Concord, Amy and Katie Havens, of Winters and Stephanie and Tyler Chance, of Oregon; great-great-grandson Marquise Vega and sister, Betty Weiser, of California.

A memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. A second memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m., in Dacatur, Illinois.

BLANCHARD

Christine H. Blanchard

Christine H. Blanchard, died at the University Retirement Community Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at age 97.

Mrs. Blanchard was born Oct. 26, 1907 in New York City. She had been a Davis resident for 54 years. She was educated in private schools in New York, then graduated from Smith College as a history major. She also attended Simmons College, where she earned her master's degree in medical social work. After moving to Davis, she was involved in volunteering with community services. First she was active in the Davis Parent Nursery School, and then she served on the Davis School Board from 1962 to 1974. One of her achievements was starting the day care center for the children of migrant farm workers at Cuidad del Sol, just outside Davis.

She was among the founders of The Episcopal Church of St. Martin, was a charter member and first president of the Yolo Family Service Agency, served on the Davis Human Relations Council, was chairwoman of the Yolo County Grand Jury, was a founder the Yolo County chapter of Planned Parenthood, helped create the Economic Opportunity Commission of Davis, and was active in STEAC.

Among her citations, she received the Yolo County Bar Association's Liberty Bell award for community service, and she was named Davis Citizen of the Year in 1970. She was also given a lifetime membership in the PTA. She was recently was reelected to the Democratic Central Committee of Yolo County.

Survivors include Mrs. Blanchard's daughter, Christine H. Ramm and her husband Edward; her son, Richard C. Blanchard and his wife Hermie; her grandchildren, Michelle C. Blanchard, R. Craig Blanchard, Kelly Mortensen, James Ramm and Travis Bogarda; and her great-grandchildren, Dominic Pittman, Neiko Pittman, Malieya Pittman and Hayden Mortensen. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard Blanchard and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bogard.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Blanchard's name be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617; Yolo Family Services, 455 First St., Woodland, 95695; or STEAC, P.O. Box 1047, Davis, 95617.

Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at The Episcopal Church of St. Martin, 640 Hawthorn Lane, Davis. The Neptune Society is assisting the family with arrangements.

GOBERT

Rose Ruiz Gobert

Rose Ruiz Gobert was born in San Lorenzo on May 12, 1923. She grew up in Winters before moving to Saratoga and then Capitola. She died on February 1, 2005.

Mrs. Gobert was one of 15 children and always loved to go home to Winters and Woodland to see her sisters, brothers, and many relatives.

Rose was a hairdresser for 50 years and owned her own shop, Rose’s for Beauty. She was an active and long time member of the Azule Women’s Club, the Italian Catholic Federation, and the Young Ladies’ Institute.

Mrs. Gobert loved the simple things in life - dancing, gardening, painting, writing, walks on the beach, and family and friends.

She wrote columns for the Cupertino Courier and the Saratoga News. She had short stories published in the Santa Cruz Sentinel and her hometown paper, the Winters Express. She also wrote four books.

She is survived by her three children, Dottie, Joe, and Cindy. Cremation and private services were held at Davis Memorial Chapel in Watsonville. Mass was held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Capitola on February 7.

GOETTE

Elsie Goette

Elsie was born February 12, 1910 in Woodland to Marie (Storz) and Frederick Goette.

She grew up in the Willow Oak area on Road 97a north of Woodland.

Elsie attended elementary school in Yolo and then high school in Woodland.

Elsie volunteered at Woodland Memorial Hospital until Dr. Railback recommended that she attend nursing school in San Francisco.

After four years in San Francisco she moved back to Woodland and started working at the same hospital she volunteered.

She worked at Woodland Memorial until the age of 70.

Elsie never marriage stating that "men were too much trouble and she was too busy at the hospital."

On her days off Elsie would visit with her sister Erna and friends.

Elsie always had a car load of women she would pick up on Sunday morning to take to church and then to lunch afterward.

She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland until her move to Chico in April of 1999.

Elsie lived with and was cared for by her nephew, Ken Chase and wife Becky until her death on Monday, July 7th, 2003.

Ken and Becky would like to acknowledge and praise Mary, Bertha and Elizabeth for their selfless care for Aunt Elsie and the staff of Butte Home Health and Hospice for being there when things were tough.

Elsie is survived by her brother, Carl Goette who lives at the Courtyard in Chico; three nephews, Ken Chase, John Chase, Carl Goette; five nieces, Patty Kriegl, Cindy Jones, Karleen Gross, Carolyn Voss, and Linda Dysart.

Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland on Saturday, July 19, 2003, at 10 a.m.

GOFF

Opal Blanche Goff

Mrs. Opal Goff passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2000 in Yuba City. Born on Dec. 25, 1910, in Wichita, Kansas, she as 89 years old.

Mrs. Goff was raised in Wichita. She moved to Winters in 1965. While living in Winters, she was an active member of Calvary Assembly of God Church (now known as New Life Family Church), where she was instrumental in the building of the church annex. In 1995, Mrs. Goff moved to Yuba City to be near her son.

Mrs. Goff is survived by her son Charles A. Goff of Yuba City, and daughter-in-law Dorothy Goff of Lodi. She also leaves her sisters Christina Yarbrough of Wichita, Kansas and Katheryn Garcia of Cannon City, Colorado; four granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Goff was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Goff in June 1980, her sons Archie A. Goff in March 1986, and Kenneth Goff in August 1954, her daughter-in-law Beverly Goff and one daughter.

Friends were invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, July 5 at 10 a.m., at the Winters Cemetery. Pastor Al Calderone of the New Life Family Church presided. Arrangements were under the direction of Smith’s Colonial Chapel in Winters.

TREJO

Helen Galaviz Trejo

Helen Galaviz Trejo died on Dec. 23, 2005, at her Knights Landing residence. She was 81.

Graveside services begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Knights Landing Cemetery on County Road 102 in Knights Landing.

Born in Chico on Nov. 23, 1924, to Bonificio and Elena Trejo, she grew up in Hamilton until moving to Yolo County where she lived for the past 65 years. A homemaker for her adult life, she was a member of Comitte Mexicano de Beneficia No. 2 for the past 60 years, and Victory Praise Church for the last 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Trejo; a son, Dario Trejo; two sisters, Guillerma Andrade and Margaret Galaviz; and her brothers, Domingo and Manuel Galaviz.

She is survived by her daughters, Felicia Brooks, Mary Helen Trejo, and Ofilia Payan and her husband Steven, all of Knights Landing; a son, Anthony Trejo of Yuba City; and her sisters, Mary McLean of Woodland and Frances Hernandez of Stockton.

She is further survived by nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to the Diabetes Association.

Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
