Thomas V. Gonzales
Thomas V. Gonzales died July 23, 2004, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 77.
He was born Jan. 26, 1927, to Thomas and Beatrice Valenzuela Gonzales in Brawley. A resident of Yolo County for the last 60 years, he was a master mechanic working for various automotive agencies in Woodland and Davis for many years, as well as for Contadina and Hunt-Wesson Foods. He was also an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Woodland.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Woodland; daughter, Linda Roach and her husband Albert of Paradise; son, Thomas Gonzales Jr. of Woodland; brothers, Hector Gonzales of Brawley and Henry Gonzales of Los Angeles; sisters, Lupe Villanueva of Los Angeles and Rosie Romero of Hanford; grandchildren, Stacy Gonzales of Woodland, Dana Wright of Paradise, Gloria Margaret Cooper of Daly City and Thomas Roach of Woodland; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 506 Cottonwood St. in Woodland. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22 in Woodland.
Remembrances may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel in Woodland.
GOODE
Clair Paul Goode
Clair Paul Goode died at The Californian Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at age 96.
Born March 13, 1907, in Clarksburg, W. Va., Mr. Goode had been a Yolo County resident for over 55 years. He completed high school. He was a member of Yolo Horseman's Association, and Cattleman's Association. He worked as brand inspector for the State of California Agricultural Department for over 40 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Goode of Woodland; foster son, John Romankiw, also of Woodland; grandchildren, Susan Stevens of Ojai, Ca., and Dan Goode of Hanford.
The family requests memorials be directed to Citizens Who Care. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Truckee Cemetery.
JOHNSON
Emmaline Melissa Smith Johnson
Emmaline Melissa Smith, 93, wife of Ira C. Johnson, died at the home of her brother J. Oscar Smith, in Winters, Cal., on Feb. 5, 1953.
She was the daughter of George W. Smith and Mary Lash born in Kentland Newton Co., Ind., on August 27, 1859 and later moved with her family to Clyde, Kansas in 1869.
Emma was united in marriage to Ira C. Johnson on May 8, 1881. He passed away on March 12, 1913. After the death of her husband Emma spent her winters in California and her brothers and in the spring traveled to her home in Clinton, Ill.
Emma was one of 8 children, 4 boys, Levi, Albert, Harry and Oscar, also 3 sisters, Francis, Rhoda and Minnie.
She was a life long member of the Methodist Church, and funeral services will be held at the Herington Reeser Funeral Home at 2 o'clock on Feb. 9, 1953 at Clinton, Ill. With Rev. K. O. Knox of Clinton, Ill. in charge of the service.
Oscar Smith and his son Herbert accompany the body to Clinton, Ill. for services and burial.
MALONEY
John Henry Maloney
John Henry Maloney died in Vaca Valley Hospital Thursday, Dec. 8, 2000, at age 75.
Born March 21, 1925, in Duluth, Minnesota, to the late Leo and Florence Maloney, Mr. Maloney was a resident of Solano County for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a grounds maintenance person at UC Davis. He was a member of the Vacaville Veterans of Foreign Wars, the D.A.V. and the U.S. Calvary Association.
Mr. Maloney is survived by his wife, Mary Maloney of Woodland; brother, Don Maloney of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; niece, Kathy Maloney and nephew, Danny Maloney, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A vigil service was held at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at McNary's Chapel, Woodland. A graveside services was held Tuesday, dec. 12, at 2 p.m., at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
McNary's Chapel of Woodland assisted the family with arrangements.
MOORE
Ernest J. Moore
Ernest J. Moore died peacefully after a short illness, on Nov. 18, 2005, at his home in Palo Alto. He was 86 years old.
A memorial service begins at 4 p.m. Monday at the Palo Alto Unitarian Church, 505 E. Charleston Road in Palo Alto, with a reception to follow.
Born in Germany, he spent a happy childhood and early adolescence there until his family fled the Hitler regime in 1934. He subsequently lived in Belgium and England, where he earned his bachelor's degree at the University of London. He and his family then emigrated to San Francisco in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army Intelligence as one of the “Richie Boys” during World War II and participated in the landing at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After his return, he received his doctorate degree in electrical engineering at UC Berkeley, at that time only the 10th successful candidate for this degree in that department.
He moved to Palo Alto in 1950 where he worked for SRI International in Menlo Park for 34 years, ending his career there as vice president. He then became the president of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology for several years, retiring at age 70. He served on the institute's board of trustees until his death. He was a member of the Palo Alto Unitarian Church for more than 50 years, and served as president of its board of trustees for two terms.
His family described him as a man with many interests, including skiing until age 83, hiking, the study of French and a wide range of literature, especially history. He was known in his neighborhood for his walks with his dachshund, Emma.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ursula Moore; his three daughters, Barbara Ellis and her husband Jim of Danville; Ginni Davis and her husband Mark of Davis; and Jacqueline Moore and her husband Steven Dantzker of Berkeley; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Eric, Alicia, Ben, Jacqueline, Jeffrey, Nick, Scott and Lizzy; three daughters by choice, Kathy Jessen of Oakland; Carolyn Couls of San Rafael; Clarkie Conant of Menlo Park and her son, Nathan; and one son, by choice, Richard Andrews of Santa Cruz; his sister, Ruth Schrag of San Francisco; and his late brother Frank's wife, Cecile Moore of Tucson, Ariz.
He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.

NEEL
Edwin E. Neel
Edwin E. “Ed” Neel, 81, a 12-year Wenatchee resident, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at Central Washington Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born on April 25, 1919 in Woodland, to Dewey and Mabel (Rockwell) Neel. He was raised and received his early education at Winters, prior to attending high school at Vacaville. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1937.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1939 and served in the Eastern and Middle Eastern operations during the early stages of World War II. He was promoted to tech sergeant and had been serving as crew chief and flight engineer aboard B-24 bombers. In the summer of 1943, he returned stateside to Winters, on leave and there he was marriage to his sweetheart, Dorothy I. Martin on July 18, 1943. Throughout the remainder of World War II, he received several assignments and projects. He had graduated from Officer Candidate School and was maintenance officer for the B-29 Training Squad at Randolph Field, Texas at the end of World War II. In April of 1951, he was promoted to captain and in April of 1953 assigned to chief of heavy aircraft maintenance at March AFB, where he was in charge of maintenance of the B-36, B-29, B-50 and B-52s. He was also a project officer for the B-52 around-the-world flight. In September of 1960, he was assigned duty as reliability and maintainability officer of Minuteman Missiles at Offutt, Nebraska and while there was promoted to Lt. Colonel.
He retired in September of 1964 and then returned to Winters. He served the community as a school board member, city council member, was the mayor for two terms and had served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and the County Chamber. He also served as a church elder and a volunteer fireman. The Neels remained in Winters, until moving to Wenatchee in April 1989. They have since remained in Wenatchee.
Edwin was a member of Central Christian Church and Wenatchee V.R.W. Post 3617. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, a 32nd Degree and a Scottish Rite Mason.
He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and gardening. He was a good builder, enjoyed his workshop and working on engines.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy I Neel, Wenatchee; three children and their spouses, Lt. Col., U.S.A.F., Retired, Edwin E. Neel, Jr., and his wife Cheryl of Sterling, Virginia; Karen and her husband, Lt. Col., U.S.A.F., Retired, Robert Brown of Oakton, Virginia, and Allen and Donna Neel of Nampa, Idaho; one sister, Virginia Yarberry, Willets; and four grandchildren, Scott Neel, Alexandra, Virginia; Laura Brown and Timothy Brown, both of Oakton, Virginia, and Sean Neel, Nampa, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside inurnment services were held in Evergreen Memorial Park on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Kleinfeldt officiating.
Friends who wish may make memorial donations in his name to the Central Christian Church Memorial Fund.
NEIDERHEISER
Orpha M. Neiderheiser
Orpha Marian Neiderheiser died at the Woodland Memorial Hospital on Nov. 13, 2001. Born in Omaha, Neb., on July 22, 1911, to the late Marion N. and Maren C. Lipps, she was 90 years old.
She was a Yolo County resident for 22 years. She was a secretary for 20 years, working for the American Baptist Convention. She was also a homemaker who loved to cook and decorate. She also enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Christ Community Fellowship Church in Woodland.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Stabler and her husband Walter of Woodland; daughter-in-law, Sharon L. Neiderheiser of Omaha, Neb.; and grandchildren, Kathy Williams and her husband Walt and Bob Neiderheiser of Omaha, Neb., Karen Nelson and her husband Dick of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Patty Neiderheiser of Sunnyvale, Tom Stabler and his wife Pam of Placerville, Jim Stabler and his wife Cheri, Roger Stabler and his wife Gloria and Paul Stabler and his wife Carman, all of Woodland. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Neiderheiser, in 1994 and son, Robert Neiderheiser Jr., in 1991.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
