Ralph was always the life of every party. He always made everyone laugh and made sure everyone was having a good time. He loved to joke around and play pranks on his family and friends.

Ralph enjoyed his job at Agriform, where he was employed for over 11 years. He loved the people he worked with and the people he met every day.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife (the girl next door) of nine years Krista Trujillo, daughters Karissa, 8, and Vanessa, 3, of Esparto. TUFTS

Warren G. Tufts

Yolo County native Warren Tufts died at the family home west of Winters on Aug. 13, 2003. He was 86.

Born in a little house on Third Street in Davis on May 15, 1917, he grew up attending schools here and, in 1940, graduated from UC Davis with a degree in agriculture. He was working for the California Tree Fruit Agreement when he met his first wife, Edna Mae (Eddie) Markofer of Elk Grove.

With the outbreak of World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served as an instructor teaching the reading of radar maps, then cutting-edge technology.

In 1946, he and his wife returned to the ranch west of Winters that his father, UCD pomology professor Warren P. Tufts, purchased in 1922. Over the years they acquired other properties and began growing apricots and peaches.

In 1958, frustrated with the marketing options available to them, the couple began packing and marketing their own fruit under the Tufts Ranch label. They developed worldwide markets and in time added other commodities, like pears, walnuts, kiwi and prunes.

His wife and business partner, Eddie, died in 1984.

Tufts developed many business relationships and personal friendships but his love for his family directed his life, especially in his later years. Outside of his loved ones, his dedication to business ranked second only to golf -- he remained an avid player into his 80s.

His many affiliations included being a charter member of the California Apricot Advisory Board, a member of the California Tree Fruit Agreement's peach committee, a board member of the California Grape and Tree Fruit League, the first chairman of the California Kiwifruit Administrative Committee, a judge of county exhibits at the State Fair for many years, and a member of the Winters Joint Unified School District board -- he served as president during the construction of Waggoner School.

In 1985, he marriage Bessie (Pauli) Adams Riegels and moved to Woodland.

He is survived by his wife Pauli of Woodland; sister Margaret Graham of Palm Desert; children Vicki Jacobs and her husband Tom, Sandy Vickrey and her husband John, and Stan Tufts and his wife Colleen, all of Winters; and grandchildren Jenni Jacobs, Chad, Jack and Devon Vickrey, Tyler Tufts and Patrick Ehrman, all of Winters, and Dillon, Graham and Ian Dougherty of Woodland.

He is also survived by his wife's children, Bill Adams of San Rafael and Jamie Dougherty and her husband Dan of Woodland.

Services are tentatively set for 4:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Winters.

Donations in Warren Tufts' name may be made to Yolo Hospice, the American Lung Association or the donor's charity of choice.
