SEARS

Claude Sears

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Oaks, in Oakland, Tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Claude Sears, 73, who died suddenly in that city Tuesday evening. He had been in ill health for some time.

Mr. Sears is survived by his wife, a son, Ray; five sisters, Mrs. Lena DuBois, of Winters, Mrs. Mamie Lennox, San Francisco, Mrs. Beryl Morrow, Santa Cruz; Mrs. Juanita Lee, of Berkeley, and Mrs. Gladys Smith, of Paradise; and one brother, Ray Sears, of Winters.

SEARS

Fielding Thomas Sears

Former Resident of Yolo

News of the death of F. T. Sears has been received in this city. It occurred in Mayfield, Washington, on the 27th of February. He was for many years a resident of Yolo county and was about 77 years of age. The deceased resided with his son George at the time of his death. He leaves a family of six sons, John, Albert, George, Robert, Bradford and Vivian. The only member of the family now living in this city is Bradford.

SEMORE

Alice "Midge" Semore

Alice "Midge" Semore of Woodland died Sept. 21, 2003. She was 63.

Born Jan. 22, 1940, in Santa Rosa, she graduated from Eureka High School in 1957. She was employed by the hotel industry for more than 30 years. She moved to Yolo County four years ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gladys Lingron, and her brother, Frank W. Lingron.

She is survived by three daughters, Tami Semore of Davis, Jeanette Baker and her husband David "Buck" of Woodland and Lynette Hjerpe and her husband Carl of Capay; a son, Darren Semore and his wife Terry of Oakdale; and five grandchildren, Jillian and Audrey Semore of Oakdale, Katie Rose and Jessica Baker of Woodland and Cooper Hjerpe of Capay.

Visitation and a funeral were held today at McNary's Chapel in Woodland, with burial at Monument Hill Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.

SEN

Lourminia "Mimi" Cariņo Sen

Lourminia "Mimi" Cariņo Sen, a 37-year resident of Davis, died May 13, 2005, after a 10-week battle with pancreatic cancer.

A celebration of life Mass will begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Church, 1275 B St. in Davis. A reception and program will follow.

She was born and raised in the Philippines and received a bachelor's degree in food technology from the University of the Philippines. She also earned a bachelor's degree in food science, a master's degree in food science/biochemistry from Oregon State University - where she met her husband Arun - and a Ph.D. in agricultural chemistry/biochemistry from UC Davis, where she was a National Institutes of Health Pre-doctoral Fellow.

She had an illustrious career conducting research at UC Davis and later in 1991 serving the state of California Department of Food and Agriculture's Center for Analytical Chemistry. In 1996, CDFA Secretary Ann Veneman presented her with the Outstanding Performance Award for her efficient management of the laboratory.

In 2001, Gov. Gray Davis appointed her the agricultural and environmental science adviser to the California Department of Food and Agriculture; she was the first person to be appointed to the position of science adviser. This year's State Science Day on May 25 will include a tribute to Sen to thank her for her dedication to science and the state of California.

She dedicated her life to her family and the community of Davis. While raising her two daughters, she was active in the Davis School Arts Foundation (president in 1987-88), Girl Scouts, Davis Ballet and, later, the Davis Art Center and Habitat for Humanity. However, her most extensive volunteer work was on the board of the International House of Davis.

Starting in 1986, she chaired the Philippines conference and eventually became the vice president in charge of programs. An excellent cook, she initiated the ethnic dinners and Thanksgiving dinners that brought people together from all over the world. During that period she also chaired the China conference, Japan conference, Sunday brunches and international teas.

Her volunteer work at I-House led to her being honored that year with the city's Brinley Award for outstanding contributions to an organization.

Mimi Sen was always opening her home to people from other countries. The Sen family has hosted more than 40 foreign exchange students. In one way or another, she was continually promoting respect and appreciation for all peoples and cultures - in her personal life, her volunteer life and her professional life.

Mimi is survived by her husband, Arun, and daughters, Anita and Monina; mother, Loida Cariņo; sisters, Monette, Eleanor and Marilu; and brother, Larry.

She also is survived by nieces and nephews, Papu, Cecilia, J.P., Piku, Christine, Toni, Chotu, Dominic, Anthony, Monica, Jay, Mac Mac and Marie; sisters-in-law, Tutun, Maya and Bing Bing; and brothers-in-law, Manju, Arturo, Socrates and Edwin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Laureano; brother, Josefino; and faithful dog, Sooner.

The Sen family has asked that any contributions in Mimi's name be given to the International House, 10 College Park, Davis, CA 95616.

SENO

Frank John Seno

Frank John Seno was born March 11, 1918 in Woodland, California.

He graduated from Woodland High School in 1936 and entered the Marine Corps in 1940 where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He saw action with Carlson's Raiders at Midway, Guadalcanal, Purvata and Bougainville.

After the war he moved to Odessa, Texas where he became President of the Odessa Junior Chamber of Commerce.

While there he became active in the Permian Playhouse and was awarded best supporting actor for his role in Mr. Roberts.

He moved to Modesto where he became a charter member of the S.O.S. Club serving on the Board of Directors for a number of years where he instigated and was general Chairman of the Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament in 1966 and 1967.

John and his wife Betty moved to Hawaii in 1968 and then to Fiji in 1970.

While there, they traveled extensively in the South Pacific, the Orient and Europe, before moving back to California in 1972.

He spent 32 years in Real Estate, was a member of the Elks, the Marine Raiders Association and the American Legion, serving as Commander of the Auburn Post.

An avid golfer, he made 3 hole-in ones in the 40 plus years he played the game.

He is survived by his wife Betty Seno, daughter Terri Tedford of Odessa, Texas, sons Robert of Ennis, Montana, and Tony of Ruidoso, N.M., stepdaughters Janet McCormick of Modesto, Ca., Pat Kaulukukui of Seaside, Ca., 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 1 brother, 3 sisters and 1 nephew.

A memorial service will held at 12:00 noon, Friday, April 2, 2004 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1528 Oakdale Road, Modesto with refreshments to follow.

Interment and Marine Honor Guard will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, at 2:15 p.m.

Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, Inc., 601 McHenry Avenue, Modesto or the American Legion, Modesto Post #74, 1001 S. Santa Cruz, Modesto, Ca. 95353.

SEPE

Dominick Anthony Sepe

Dominick Anthony Sepe died peacefully in his Woodland home Sunday, July 21, 2002, at age 75.

Born Feb. 14, 1927, in Ozone Park, Long Island (Queens Borough), N.Y., Mr. Sepe had been a Yolo County resident for the past 36 years. He was the son of the late Ferdinand and Joanna (Montana) Sepe, who had immigrated to the U.S. from Italy.

Graduating from high school, in 1945, in Queens, N.Y., Mr. Sepe went to work for Etched Products Corporation in Long Island, N.Y. In 1948, at the beginning of the Korean War, Dominick enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country as a first-generation American of Italian descent. After completing training and then advanced schooling as a military policeman, he was assigned to the U.S. occupied portion of Western Germany with the 508th Military Police Battalion. He was awarded the U.S. Forces Occupation Medal upon completion of his duties. He later returned to Garmisch, Germany where he was marriage. Central Motors of Woodland employed Mr. Sepe as a mechanic until the AMC dealership was closed due to the merger with Chrysler Corporation. Until his retirement, he continued serving as a mechanic for other dealers in Woodland.

Mr. Sepe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nelly Probst; sons, Robert Anthony Sepe and Alfred Francis Sepe, all of Woodland; grandchildren, Robert A. Sepe Jr. of Sacramento, Stacey Sepe, Christina Mitchell and husband Clint, and Nalene, Elaine and Jennifer Sepe, all of Woodland; and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jessica Mitchell, also of Woodland.

A funeral service will be scheduled at a later date, with interment to take place in Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. No visitation is scheduled.

Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.

SERENO

Jesus Sereno

Jesus Sereno died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Butte County at age 24.

Mr. Sereno was born Nov. 20, 1980 in Cueramaro, Guanajuato, Mexico to Santiago and Manuela Morales Sereno. He had been a Yolo County resident for 13 years. He worked as a laborer for Bision Construction.

Survivors include Mr. Sereno's son, Javier Jesus Sereno; his sisters, Alisia Sereno of Cueramaro, GTO, Mexico, Marisela Sereno of Oregon and Yolanda Sereno of Texas; his brother, Secundino Morales Sereno and his wife Glenda Sue of Woodland; his niece, Abbelina Sue Alacon of Woodland; his nephews, Santiago and Ramiro Sereno and Francisco Delgado of Woodland; his grandmother, Esther Sereno; his aunts, Francisca, Bertha and Juana Sereno; his uncles, Miguel and Francisco Sereno, all of Cueramaro, GTO, Mexico and his cousin Maria de Carmen Sereno of Woodland.

Services: A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Holy Rosary with interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

SERR

Nancy Wilson Serr

Nancy Wilson Serr died at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff on Sept. 6, 2005. She was 75.

A memorial service begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Red Bluff Presbyterian Church.

Born Oct. 10, 1929, in Woodland to Edward and Adelyn Wilson, she resided in Sacramento for a time before moving to Red Bluff in 1966. She worked as a freelance artist for 45 years, using media such as oil, watercolor, batik and pastel. She held her own art shows all over Northern California where she sold her work.

In he spare time, she enjoyed researching genealogy and her family's heritage.

She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church and local chapter of Children's Home Society, Red Bluff Art Association, Valley Art League, Tehama County Arts Council, the Nature Conservancy and the California Native Plant Society.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gene Serr of Red Bluff; son Davis W. Serr of Denver, Colo.; and son Jeffrey Serr and his wife Suzanne of Granada Hills.

She is further survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Arthritis Foundation, 3040 Explorer Drive, Suite 1, Sacramento, CA 95827; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
