Alfredo Escobedo Serrano
Alfredo Escobedo Serrano died unexpectedly at Sacramento's UC Davis Medical Center Friday, June 27, 2003 at age 19. Born Nov. 15, 1983, in Buenavista, Jalisco, Mexico, he had been a resident of Yolo County for the past five years. He graduated from Cache Creek High School and had recently completed his training in Construction Technology. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Survivors include his parents, Alfredo Escobedo Lopez of Orcutt, Ca. and Isaura Escobedo Serrano of Woodland; brothers, Israel, Milton and Misael Escobedo, all of Woodland; maternal grandparents, Ramiro and Irene Serrano; paternal grandparents, Manuel and Josefina Escobedo, all of Jalisco, Mexico; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorials may be directed to: Alfredo Escobedo Memorial Fund, Account No. 2016092108, Wells Fargo Bank, 444 Court St., Woodland, 95695. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
Services: A rosary is scheduled to be recited at 7 p.m., today, Wednesday. A prayer vigil will be held at the same time. Both will be held at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A funeral Mass is scheduled to be said at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 5075 Harp Road, Santa Maria, with Father John Mayhew officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Santa Maria Cemetery.
SERRANO
Jose Serrano
Mr. Jose Serrano, a 53-year resident of Winters, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Mercy General Hospital, in Sacramento. Born on Sept. 14, 1928, he was 76 years old.
Mr. Serrano came to Winters from Spain where he had served in the military. He worked for a short time as a sheep herder and then went to work for Basic Foods in Vacaville. He retired from American Home Foods in Vacaville as a machine operator. His pastimes included gardening, bicycle riding and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maria Serrano, of Winters; children Jose Serrano and his wife, Christina, of Folsom, and Beatrice Jordan, of Winters; also, grandchildren Jonathon and Jennifer Jordan, of Winters and Austin, Katelyn and Ethan Serrano, all of Folsom; he is also survived by his sisters Joaquina Serrano Martinez, of Spain, and Isabel Ramos, of Winters.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, at Third and Main streets in Winters. The Funeral Mass will be on Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Winters Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
SERRANO
Yolanda Valencia Serrano
Yolanda Valencia Serrano passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 at her home in Winters. Born in Aquila, Michoacan, Mexico on December 5, 1949, she was 50 years old.
Yolanda worked as a sorter for Mariani Nut Company for 15 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Woodland and loved to sew, garden and cook. She loved spending time with her friends and family, and caring for her birds.
Mrs. Serrano is survived by her children, John G. Garibay of Sacramento, Marisol Yandel of Atwater, and Rosalia Garibay and Miguel A. Garibay, both of Winters; brother, Manuel Valencia of Michoacan, Mexico; sisters, Hermelinda Valencia, Luz Maria Valencia and Norma Valencia, all of Michoacan, Mexico and Lupe Valencia of Costa Mesa; 2 grandsons, Adam and Isaac Yandel of Atwater; father, Manuel Valencia of Winters; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held on Thursday, Jan. 13, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m., all held at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, with concluding services at the Winters Cemetery.

SEVILLA
Joseph C. Sevilla
Willows resident Jose C. Sevilla passed away in Willows on June 14, 1999. Born in Jalisco, Mexico on Nov. 19, 1929, he was 69 years old.
A former Winters resident, Mr. Sevilla worked as a senior agricultural field technician for UC Davis at the Wolfskill Experimental Orchard for 16 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira; daughters Diana Sevilla of Winters and Carmen George of West Sacramento; grandchildren, Jose Hernandez of Vacaville and Jessica Hernandez of Winters, Charles George, Santos Calamaco of West Sacramento and Becky Le Bard of Rio Linda; brother Angel Sevilla of Guadalajara, Mexico, and sisters, Josefina Mero and Maria Sevilla of Los Angeles and Aurora Sevilla of Tiajuana, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Elena Sevilla.
A rosary was held for Mr. Sevilla on June 16 and funeral services were held on June 17 at Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville.
SEVILLA
Maria E. Sevilla
Funeral services were held at Imperial Beach, March 30, for Maria Elena Sevilla, 34. Born Dec. 15, 1957, in Fairfield, she died March 28, 1992 at Kaiser Permanent Hospital in San Diego after a long illness. Miss Sevilla was a graduate of Winters High School and had been a clerical employee for the state of California for the past 15 years. She made her home at Imperial Beach for the last six years.
She is survived by her parents, Jose and Elvira Sevilla of Winters; sisters, Diane Sevilla of Winters, and Carmen George of West Sacramento. Also surviving are a niece and nephew, Jose and Jessica Hernandez of Winters, and grandfather, Jose Cueva of Vacaville.
SHAFFER
Rose Cecilia Shaffer
Rose Cecilia Shaffer died peacefully in San Rafael on Thursday, March 14, 2002, at age 94.
Born Oct. 28, 1907 in St. Louis, Mrs. Shaffer lived in Woodland from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s.
Mrs. Shaffer dedicated her life to her family.
Mrs. Shaffer is survived by her children Sister Patricia Shaffer, Rosemary Battaglia, John Shaffer and Carolyn Shaffer.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five sisters.
Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, who died in 1990 and her son Charles who died in 1964.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 21, at the Nazareth Chapel in San Rafael.
Interment is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Woodland.
SHACKLETT
Comer Drake Shacklett
Comer Drake Shacklett died Nov. 1, 2004, at his home in Davis after a long illness. Born Nov. 24, 1920, in Alexandria, Va., he was 84.
Interment will be at the Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City where a memorial service will be held at a later date.
He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a doctorate in physical organic chemistry in 1952. He marriage Juanita Purvis in 1958 and they had one daughter, Barbara, who is an assistant professor at the UC Davis School of Medicine.
In 1964, the family moved to Westfield, N.J. He was employed as a researcher in the Photo Products Department of E.I. DuPont de Nemours in Parlin, N.J. for 35 years. His research group developed photosensitive emulsions for photography and mammography films, and he held several patents. He retired from DuPont in 1986 and moved to Davis in June 2004.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Ruth Epperly, of Nashville, Tenn., and a brother, James C. Shacklett Jr., of Marietta, Ga.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Shacklett; daughter, Barbara Shacklett, and son-in-law Jean-Jacques Lambert, all of Davis.
