Lois Maye Shumway
Lois Maye Shumway of Orland died on Dec. 23, 2005, in Chico. She was 78 years old.
She was born to Arthur and Hazel (Smith) Hendrickson in Sacramento on July 31, 1927. She was raised in Davis, graduated from Davis High School in 1944, and then graduated from the Junior College of College of the Pacific. She was marriage to Merlin A. Shumway for 18 years.
Before her retirement in 1985, she was an integral part of the Ambulatory Division of the Large Animal Clinic of the UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She moved to Orland in 1994.
"Lo's laugh delighted all who heard it," her family says. "Despite many hardships, she exuded an uplifted sparkle to those around her. It was really fun to be in her presence."
She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Hendrickson; daughter, Jeanne Ackerman; and granddaughter Bailey Shumway.
She is survived by her son, Clint Shumway of Oroville; sister, Jean Conway of Orland; nephew, Gregg Conway of Red Bluff; niece, Linda McHenry of Davis; and grandsons Joshua Ackerman, Ryan Ackerman and Shea Shumway.
At her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Orland Fire Department, Orland Senior Nutrition Program or to a charity of the donor's choice.
ROBINSON
Benjamin Rowland Robinson, Jr.
Dr. Benjamin Rowland Robinson Jr., died June 15, 2003, at the University Retirement Community in Davis. He was 84.
The son of Benjamin Rowland Robinson Sr. and Julia Oldsen Robinson, he was born on Jan. 6, 1919, in Worcester, Mass. He grew up there, the middle child of five, and graduated from the University of Rhode Island, and Yale Medical School. He met his wife, Rose, while working at New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.
He served in the Army twice, reaching the rank of captain, as well as in the National Guard Reserves. He was stationed in Oklahoma, Washington and Germany.
Robinson and his family moved to Woodland in 1951. He was a physician with the Woodland Clinic Medical Group for more than 30 years. He served as chief of staff of the Woodland Memorial Hospital, and was chairman of the Building Committee for the Woodland Clinic at its current location. He was also a member of the Yolo County Medical Society and Yolo Investors.
Robinson was a sports enthusiast, enjoying sailing, fishing, duck hunting, snow skiing, camping. He loved living near Lake Tahoe, where the family spent many happy vacations. He and his wife belonged to the Yolo Fliers Club, were avid golfers and took part in several bridge clubs.
He was an accomplished in stained glass art, his family said, and loved music. He was concert master while at Yale University, where he was first chair violinist. While stationed in Germany, he took up the zither and continued to play both zither and piano for many years.
Robinson was very fond of his cars, including an Austin Healy, a Porsche, and his beloved SuperSport El Camino, which he called "a thing of beauty and a joy forever."
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and physician, his family said, and adored his wife, fondly known as Choopie. The couple lived in Woodland for nearly 50 years, moving to the University Retirement Community in Davis in 2000.
Robinson was the husband of the late Rose Cavalieri Robinson and the father of the late Judy Robinson Campos McKeehan. His brother, George Robinson, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters: Robin Martha Earl of Nashville, Tenn., Kathy Robinson of Davis, and Kim Noonan of Danville; six grandchildren: Paul Campos of Orinda, Kelly McKeehan of Pleasanton, Taylor, Alexa and Jenna Noonan of Danville, and John Jared Earl of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Helen Herrick of Exeter, N.H., Marjorie Sweet of E. Corinth, Vt., and Virginia Gough of Ruskin, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, at the University Retirement Community, 1515 Shasta Drive, Davis, in the auditorium, with reception to follow in the activity room next to the auditorium.

ROBINSON
Betty J. Robinson
Betty Jane Robinson died peacefully on April 20, 2002, in Woodland after a struggle with cancer. Born Nov. 24, 1924, in San Francisco, she was 77 years old.
A woman of strong convictions and great intellect, she will be missed by friends and family whom she loved.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley, studying chemistry and Russian. She went on to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she developed lifelong friendships.
After graduation, she settled in Davis, working in the pomology department at UC Davis. During that time, she took a sabbatical and lived and worked in Holland.
After retiring, she attended the UC Berkeley Library School, earning a master's degree in librarianship.
When she was younger, she was active in the Sierra Club, organizing and participating in hikes and backpacking trips. Later, she became involved in the Unitarian Church, where she sang in the choir and participated on the board. She catalogued the church library's books and put the records on computer disks.
She was also passionate about fighting injustices and supported several organizations that worked with those causes.
She is survived by her brother, Leonard Robinson of Los Altos Hills, and her sister, Margaret Barrett of Reno, as well as seven nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a memorial service Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road in rural West Davis.
Donations in her memory may be directed to the Unitarian Church.
ROBINSON
Elmer Robinson
Elmer Robinson died in Alderson Convalescent Hospital, Woodland, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2002, at age 88.
Born June 1, 1915, a native of Woodland, Mr. Robinson was the son of the late Charles and Alma (Frances) Robinson. He served in the U.S. Army at Guada Canal during the Pacific Theatre of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Alma (Evans) Robinson of Woodland; sisters, Rhoda Fish and Olive Puerner; and brother, David Robinson of Woodland.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia (Ginny) Robinson; sisters, Lucy Dole, Bessie Barlow, Emma Pierce, Florence Robinson, Louise Lewis, and Maybell Altpeter; and brothers, Frank, Charles, Raymond, George, Edward, and James Robinson.
No visitation is scheduled.
A graveside service is scheduled at 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, with The Reverend Henry Scherer presiding. Military honors will be held with interment at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

Ethel "Bernice" Robinson
Ethel "Bernice" Robinson of Woodland died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005 at age 84.
Mrs. Robinson was born Dec. 5, 1920 in Auburn, Ind. She had been a Yolo County resident for 55 years. She attended a private Lutheran high school. She was a homemaker for 50 years, a volunteer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Christmas charity and a member of the Knights Landing Garden Club and Sewing Bee Club. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 50 years.
Survivors include Mrs. Robinson's brother, Alva Crabill of Auburn, Ind.; her nephew, Everett Shull and his wife Claudette of Woodland and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Elmer Robinson; her daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Robinson; her parents, James H. Shull and Hulda J. Duchow; her sisters, Ruthella Shull and Gertrude Eckellberry; her brothers, Everett Shull, Henry Shull and Robert Shull and her grandparents, George Eli Shull and Francis Feaglar.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Robinson's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services: A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 625 W. Gibson Road, Woodland with the Reverend Hank Scherer officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral at noon at Monument Hill Memorial Park. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lois Rachel Robinson
Lois Rachel Robinson died March 21, 2003, at her home in Davis. Born on Oct. 5, 1916, in Alliance, Neb., to Nellie Hamil Wells and Virgil Emerald Wells, she was 86 years old.
The family had a homestead cattle ranch near Alliance. She was the salutatorian of her class at Gonzales High School in Gonzales. She attended the UC Berkeley, and later completed work on her bachelor's degree. She also did work at Cal State Sacramento.
She and her husband, retired Lt. Col. Russell H. Robinson, were marriage 65 years. The couple began their marriage life in 1938 in Davis, where he was attending the university. She became a resident of the Davis area in 1950, teaching third and fourth grade at North Davis Elementary from 1960 until the spring of 1973.
She loved adventure. Her husband was a pilot and she learned how to fly so she could be his co-pilot when they traveled in their private aircraft. He built a 34-foot sloop in their yard in Willowbank, which they sailed out of San Francisco Bay in 1978.
Over a period of two years, the couple sailed down the west coast of Mexico and Central America and passed through the Panama Canal. They visited Colombia and many Caribbean islands, and sailed up the east coast of Central America and Mexico to Florida.
They later built a second home on Long Island in the Bahamas, splitting time each year between Davis and Long Island. The couple also sailed from the Bahamas to Chesapeake Bay and back.
She wrote and published a two-volume book, "New Set of Wings, " for friends and family about her odysseys at sea. In travels by air and sea, she set foot on four continents, Hawaii and New Zealand.
She is survived by her husband, Robby Robinson; sister, Doris Bernard of Portland, Ore.; and children, Beth Kraft of Sacramento, Judy Clark of Livermore, Russell E. Robinson of Palo Cedro, Dorothy Nylen of Dayton, Nev., and Robert T. Robinson of Sacramento. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held in her home in Davis.
UNDERWOOD-MOSELEY
Magelin Louise Underwood-Moseley
Magelin Louise Underwood-Moseley died at Sutter Davis Hospital Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at age 89.
Born March 17, 1914, in El Paso, Texas, Ms. Moseley had been a Yolo County resident for 38 years. She taught at Madison Elementary School, Washington Junior High and John Muir High School, all in Pasadena. She helped run the family store in Pasadena. She was a missionary in Tennessee and worked for the State of California for several years, before going back to school to get her teaching credential. She taught music at the Head Start program in Woodland.
Survivors include her brother, Ralph Underwood of Bakersfield; sisters, Edith Shields of Sacramento, Shirley Underwood of Manhattan Beach, and Marilyn Tumey of Southern California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Aaron Underwood; mother, Ruth Underwood; sister, Lois Jahn, and Mary Wilson; and brothers, Raymond and Donald Underwood.
The family requests memorials be directed to Head Start program of Woodland. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: A burial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 28, Woodland Cemetery officiated by Rev. Elmer Prout.
