RODRIGUEZ-ALVAREZ

Amalia Rodriguez-Alvarez & Maria Rodriguez-Alvarez

Babies Amalia and Maria Rodriguez-Alvaez died at birth on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Davis.

Amalia and Maria are survived by parents, Juan and Amalia Rodriguez of Sacramento; paternal grandmother, Maria Castillo of Woodland; and maternal grandparents, Pedro and Amalia Alvarez of Woodland.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland.

RODRIGUEZ-SANDOVAL

Mary Lou Rodriguez-Sandoval (1 of 2)

Happy Birthday!! It's only been six months since your brief, but courageous battle with cancer took your life, but not your spirit from us. Mary Lou was born in Saragosa, Texas, the third of 12 children.

A 1970 Woodland High School graduate, she was employed 14 years with UC Davis until relocating to Azusa with her husband. She was employed by CalPoly Pomona since 1987.

Those who were lucky enough to know Mary Lou were truly privileged. She was the sweetest person to walk this earth, and was willing to help those in need. She is missed tremendously and is always in our thoughts, hearts and prayers.

Mary Lou is survived by her devoted husband, Joe; her mother, Pilar and stepfather, Epifanio Serrano; sons, Joe Raymond, Richard and wife Jacky; stepdaughter, Christina and husband Keith; grandchildren, Richard, David, Ciera, Andrew, Colleen, Anthony and Aliya; sisters, Estela, Pauline, RosaLee and husband Ramon, Rosemary, Amparo and husband Fernando, Lita and husband Javier, Terry and husband Raymond and Sylvia; brothers, Joe and wife Josie, Ross and wife Ana, and Enrique; 15 nieces; 13 nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews, godchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her father, Jose G. Rodriguez; grandparents, Adrian and Felicitas Navarrete; uncles, Benjamin Medina and Jesse Navarrete; niece Amanda Lindsay; and brother-in-law, Larry Harrison.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Mary Lou.

Mary Lou Rodriguez-Sandoval (2 of 2)

Mary Lou Rodriguez-Sandoval died at her home in Azusa Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at age 52.

Mrs. Rodriguez-Sandoval was born Aug. 19, 1952 in Saragosa, Texas. She was a 1970 Woodland High School graduate. She was employed for 14 years with UC Davis before relocating to Azusa with her husband. She was employed by CalPoly Pomona since 1987.

Survivors include Mrs. Rodriguez-Sandoval's husband, Joe; her sons, Joe Raymond, Richard and his wife Jacky; her stepdaughter, Christina and her husband Keith; her grandchildren, Richard, David, Ciera, Andrew, Colleen, Anthony and Aliya; her mother, Pilar and stepfather, Epifanio Serrano; her sisters, Estela, Pauline, RosaLee and her husband Ramon, Rosemary, Amparo and her husband Fernando, Lita and her husband Javier, Terry and her husband Raymond and Sylvia; her brothers, Joe and his wife Josie, Ross and his wife Ana, and Enrique; 15 nieces; 13 nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews, godchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Jose G. Rodriguez; her grandparents, Adrian and Felicitas Navarrete; her uncles, Benjamin Medina and Jesse Navarrete; her niece, Amanda Lindsay; and her brother-in-law, Larry Harrison.

The family requests that memorials in Mrs. Rodriguez-Sandoval's name be directed to The American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, 95815.

Services: Services will be scheduled at a later date.

ROECKL

Eric Roeckl

Eric Roeckl lost his battle with lung cancer and lymphoma and died early Jan. 14, 2006, at the Davis home he shared with his daughter Margaret, son-in-law Paul Navazio and four of his grandchildren. He was 81 years old.

A funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail in Napa. A memorial gathering will follow at 3 p.m. at the Heroes and Legends Bar and Grill at the Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield.

He moved to Davis in February 2004 after retiring to Napa in 1995. He raised his children on Long Island, N.Y., where he worked as an attorney, often as a sole practitioner doing general business law, family law and criminal defense work.

As a World War II veteran and co-pilot in the armed forces, he served his country faithfully and with distinction and was honorably discharged from duty in 1946.

He was an avid golfer, who worked as a marshal at both Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis and Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield. He was an active member of both Seniors in Retirement and the Silver Spray Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, having concluded serving as Worthy Patron in that organization in 2005.

His contributions to the many charitable, religious and fraternal organizations to which he belonged over the 81 years of his life are too numerous to recount.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marge Roeckl, and his three sons, Charles, John and Joseph.

He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Roeckl and Karen Baker; his brother, Otto Roeckl; his sister, Elizabeth Lamattina; and five grandchildren, John-Charles, Christina, Jessica and Margaret Roeckl-Navazio and Korleen Baker.

ROGERS

Abigail J. Rogers

A resident of Kailua-Kona, Abigail Josephine (Narrod) Rogers died on Sept. 14, 2002, from breast and bone cancer. She was 69.

Born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Pleasant Hill, Tenn., she was the youngest child of Floyd and Jimmie Mae Norrod. She was raised in Crossville, Tenn., and graduated from Cumberland County High School. She was the first in her family to receive a college degree which she earned from Tennessee Tech University.

After college, she taught at the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville and then lived with her sister, Flodine (Norrod) Sehl and family in Connecticut where she taught at Windsor Locks High School. In her 20s, she became a stewardess for Transocean Airlines and staffed flights to Europe and the Pacific Islands. This was an exciting time in her life. She was stationed out of Oakland where she met and marriage William B. Rogers. They were marriage for 42 years.

During their time together, they maintained homes in Pleasanton and Santa Cruz, Incline Village, Nevada and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. They raised one child, Tracy J. (Rogers) Beckwith in Santa Cruz. She was an extremely devoted mother and wife and was known for her southern hospitality, unique laugh, beauty and gentle nature.

She was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Jewell Garrett.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Rogers of Kona, Hawaii; her daughter Tracy Beckwith and her husband James; grandchildren Bryce, William, and Spencer of El Macero. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Philip Sehl of Wethersfield, Conn.; brother Paul Norrod of Crossville, Tenn.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Davis Community Church. The family has asked that donations be made in her honor to the UC Davis Cancer Center, 4501 X St., Sacramento, CA 95817.

Davis Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

ROGERS

Clarence Milburn "Mel" Rogers

Clarence Milburn "Mel" Rogers died in Woodland Sunday, June 15, 2003, at age 78.

Born Dec. 17, 1924, in Greybull, Wyo., Mr. Rogers had been a Yolo County resident for three years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo. for 30 years last working as maintenance supervisor. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He was an active member of the Catholic Church in Cheyenne.

Survivors include his son, William Rogers and wife Dawn of Wyoming; grandsons, Barry Rogers of Colorado and Allen Rogers of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister, Wanda Milligan of Modesto; brother, John Rogers and wife Verla of Reno, Nev.; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Stewart) Rogers; father, Thomas A. Rogers; mother, Hazel Rogers; stepmother, Mary Rogers and sister, Evelynn Rogers.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at McNary's Chapel of Woodland. Burial will be at Olivet Cemetery of Cheyenne, Wyo.

VILLEGAS

Mario Soto Villegas

Mario Soto Villegas, 88, died unexpectedly on April 8, 2006, at Woodland Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 12, 1918, in El Valle de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jesus and Maria (Ponce) Soto, she was a homemaker for more than 60 years, a resident of Yolo County and a member of Holy Rosary Church for the past 41 years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Roberto Villegas of Woodland; daughter, Angelica Ramirez and her husband Ted; sons, Ramon S. Villegas and his wife Rita, and Robert Villegas, all of Woodland; and sisters, Carmela Soto de Hernandez and Fermina Soto de Reyes, both of Mexico.

She also is survived by grandchildren, Brandon Tafoya-Ramirez, Irene and Robert A. Ramirez, Kathie L. Villegas, Brian K. Villegas, Ramon and Melissa Villegas, Robert, Elie and Faith M. Villegas, Gloria Angelica and Fernando Almanza, Robert William Villegas III, Cassidy Lyn Villegas, Jennifer Renee Day; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Melanie, Robert, Joseph, Priscila, Alexis, Angelica, Emilio, Ryan, Alysa, Andrea, Valerie, Kevin, Kaeli and Katelyn Rae; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Refugio Soto de Villegas, Josefina Soto de Chavez, Guadalupe Soto de Morales, Otilia Soto de Alvidrez and Aurelia Soto de Gandara; and a brother, Jesus Soto.

Private services will be held, with interment in El Jardin Cementerio, Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. The family requests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Evergreen Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

VINCK

Bernadine C. Vinck

Bernadine C. Vinck, a longtime resident of Albert Lea, Minn., died June 9, 2005, after a brief illness in Woodland. She was 98.

Born March 1, 1907, she lived on a farm near Bird Island, Minn., and was the eldest of eight siblings. She stayed home for three years to assist her mother, and at age 20 graduated with honors from St. Mary's High School in Bird Island. She then attended business school in Minneapolis and was later employed as a collection agent for Gately's Department Store.

In the 1930s, she met Clement Vinck, and they were later marriage in St. Helena's Church in Minneapolis on Thanksgiving Day 1934. They resided on Osceola Avenue in St. Paul, Minn., during their first years of marriage. Clement's employer, J.T. McMillan Meat Packing Co., was bought out by Wilson & Co. in 1937. They were then transferred to Albert Lea, where he served as foreman of the smoked meat department for the next 31 years.

In the late 1940s, they started up a small short-order cafe in Albert Lea called the Hyde Grill. Her business background came into play this time as the designated bookkeeper. They sold the Hyde Grill in 1950 and then went into the motel business, which they operated from 1954 into the early 1970s, with Bernie still doing the bookkeeping. During this time, she became an excellent bridge player, starting with the St. Theodore's bridge club and developing into duplicate bridge. Many bridge trophies made their way into her home, and these awards would accumulate into 200 master points.

She celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in October 1984 at St. Theodore's. Clement retired from Wilson's in 1968 and they spent their winters in Tucson, Ariz. Clement died in 1992 and Bernie remained in Albert Lea for a few years until joining her daughter, Audrey, near her home in Davis and then Woodland.

She is survived by her daughter, Audrey Vinck Hastings and husband Richard of Davis; son Paul Vinck and wife Roberta of Tomales; granddaughters Hilary Hastings of Makawao, Maui, Hawaii, Jocelyn Hastings of San Jose and Elena Vinck of Tomales.

Funeral services were held June 14 and she is interred in St. Theodore's Cemetery in Albert Lea alongside her husband, Clement P. Vinck, who died March 31, 1992.

Contributions in her memory may be given to The Californian Residential Care Home in Woodland.
