Kathleen Ann (Harris) von Bargen
Kathleen Ann (Harris) von Bargen died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at age 52.
Born March 17, 1950, in Chico, Mrs. von Bargen has been a resident of Woodland for the last 21 years. She worked for Bank of America for 19 years and was employed at branches in Orland, Chico, Woodland and Sacramento. Her hobbies included stained glass, quilting, sewing and crocheting.
Mrs. von Bargen is survived by her daughter, Lorene Leathers and husband Curt of Woodland; parents, Charles and Mildred Harris Sr. of Orland; sisters, Leslie Black and husband Ken of North Highlands and Karla Bambauer and husband Lewis of Orland; brother, Charles Harris Jr. and wife Terri of Orland; granddaughters, Morgan and Brooke Leathers of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Orland.
McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with local arrangements and graveside services are conducted by F. D. Sweet and Sons Funeral Home of Orland.
VON BEHREN
Ruth L. Von Behren
Ruth L. Von Behren died unexpectedly at her Davis home June 2, 2003. She was 70.
Born April 10, 1933 in Dubuque, Iowa, she one of Adolph and Elva Lechner's six children. She obtained her doctorate in medieval history and belonged to the Yolo County Historical Society. Her business career consisted of education, working as a contract manager for the State Health and Welfare Services Department and as an adult day care specialist, and, for the last 20 years, working for Onlok Senior Health Services in San Francisco.
Ruth will be greatly missed by all who knew her, her family said.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jerry Von Behren and her brother Paul Lechner. She is survived daughters Debi Lasker and husband Lester and Lu Ann Boys and husband Robert, as well as grandchildren Matthew, Alaina, Deanna and Marie Boys and Tom and Katie Lasker, all of Davis, brother Ludy Lechner of Guttenberg, Iowa, and sisters Lois Meier of Summer, Iowa, Eunice Reinhardt of Flanagan, Ill., and Naomi Vonesh of Fort Wayne, Ind.
A graveside service is set for Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Road in Davis. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
VULLIET
Judith Loveland Vulliet
Judith Loveland Vulliet died at home in the arms of her husband on the morning of Oct. 14, 2004, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 59.
A celebration of her life will begin with a potluck buffet from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Freedom From Hunger, 1644 DaVinci Court in Davis. Dress will be casual, with Hawaiian and floral prints preferred.
Born in Silver Spring, Md., on June 24, 1945, she graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring in 1963. She then served with the Peace Corps in Costa Rica for four years.
Upon returning to the United States, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Colorado, Denver. She then worked at Colorado State University in student personnel while simultaneously earning her M. Ed.; there she met and marriage her husband. She went on to five years as the assistant director of student placement at Texas A&M University.
Coming to Davis in 1988, she began a decade of work in several capacities for the nonprofit Freedom From Hunger, where she dedicated herself to its mission of empowering women in developing countries with innovative economic and educational self-help programs. She left Freedom From Hunger to earn her K-12 teacher certification from National University.
Upon graduation, she worked as a bilingual teacher at Anderson Elementary and C.A. Jacobs Middle schools in Dixon. Her unending passion for helping people brought her back to Freedom From Hunger to work as a volunteer on a variety of tasks when her cancer-associated fatigue prohibited full-time classroom teaching.
She was highly regarded for her enthusiasm for life and optimism. She touched the lives of many. Her warmth and integrity, good sense of humor, and a refusal to take herself too seriously were treasured by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Thomas Mengel.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Richard Vulliet; her sons, Robert, and Philip and his wife Lisa, granddaughter Hailey and mother Joan Loveland Mengel, all of Davis; and sister, Nancy Mengel Rosensweig, brother J. Thomas Mengel and his wife Alida, and nephews Gregory and J.T. Mengel, all of Denver.

STAFFORD
Phyllis Marguerite Stafford
Phyllis Marguerite Stafford died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at age of 80. Born in Woodland, Ca. on May 11, 1922, to Earl and Marie Anderson. She attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Woodland High School in 1940.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and past member of Delta Theta Tau, Native Daughters and Legion Auxiliary. She was employed by Yolo County Superintendent of schools for 28 years, retiring in 1982 and was an active and dedicated community volunteer.
Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Anderson Jr. and husband Howard M. Stafford. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michael and Carol Alexander of Yuba City; grandchildren, Michele Alexander of Yuba City and Michael & Laura Alexander of Sacramento; great-granddaughter, Bobbie Joleen Alexander of Sacramento; and her sister, Marilyn Moore and husband Edward of Woodland.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. at McNary's Chapel in Woodland.
The family requests memorials be directed to American Cancer Society; the Food Closet; or to donor's choice.
STAFFORD
Reva E. Stafford
Reva Stafford passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2003 at Emerald Gardens in Sacramento. Born on November 14, 1923 in Winters to Elmer and Mabel Bruhn (a pioneer family of Winters), she was 80 years old. Mrs. Stafford was a long time resident of Winters before moving to Sacramento 27 years ago. She was preceded in death by her son David Stafford and her brothers Meredeth and Gordon Bruhn. She is survived by her children Susan Klem of Ohio, and Janice Van Duyne of California. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 10 a.m. at the Winters Cemetery, 415 Cemetery Drive in Winters. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Georgette Louise Staib
Georgette Louise Staib died in Davis Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005 at age 87.
Mrs. Staib was born Jan. 29, 1918 in Lindsborg, Kan. She had been a Yolo County resident for 45 years. She was a member of Alpha Iota Sorority, a docent for the Crocker Art Museum and a supporter of Summer House.
Survivors include Mrs. Staib's daughter, Lana Sorensen and her husband Lance of Selah, Wash.; her stepson, Rolf Staib; her grandchildren, Erika Mentink and her husband Jim of Portland, Maine, Ryan Sorensen and his wife Stephanie of Tijuana, Mexico and T.J. Sorensen and his wife Michelle of Portland, Oregon; her sister, Alice Howard of Flagler Beach, Fla.; and her cousin, Jean O'Connell and her husband Jerry of San Francisco. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Conrad Staib; her son, Eric Staib; and her cousin, Beth Feeney.

Georgette Staib of Davis passed away at her home on Nov. 10, 2005.
Georgette was born Jan. 29, 1918 and raised in Lindsborg, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo. She moved west as a young adult working in the war industry on the Manhattan Project during WWII. She then lived and worked in the San Francisco area as a legal secretary and met her future husband Conrad Staib. They were marriage and settled near Woodland in 1960.
Georgette was a 70 year member of the Alpha Iota Sorority, Oakland chapter, a long time docent for the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, and more recently a member of the Red Hat Society at University Retirement Center where she resided. She was involved with many other organizations and charities during her lifetime.
Georgette's love and concern for the handicapped was very evident in the giving of her time, energy and resources to Summerhouse in Woodland and the Yolo Employment Services.
Georgette was preceded in death by her husband Conrad, her son Eric, and her cousin Beth Feeney.
Georgette is survived by her daughter Lana Sorensen and husband Lance of Selah, Wash.; her grandchildren Erika Mentink and husband Jim of Auburn, Maine, Ryan Sorensen and wife Stephanie of Tijuana, Mexico, and T.J. Sorensen and wife Michelle of Portland, Ore.; her cousin Jean O'Connell, husband Jerry and their children Erin, Jim and Kerry of Belmont, Calif.; her sister Alice Howard of Flagler Beach, Fla.; her niece Ann Evans of Flagler Beach, Fla.; her nephew John Howard of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her stepson Rolf Staib; her devoted caregivers April Trueblood of Davis and Shirley Whysong of Woodland; and all her friends at URC and in Yolo County.
A memorial service in honor of Georgette will be held at University Retirement Center, 1515 Shasta Drive, Davis on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m.
STAKER
James Denzel Staker
James Denzel Staker, 41, of Merced, was born on March 9, 1963 and passed away Saturday Aug. 21, 2004 at the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, from injuries sustained in an accident on Aug. 20, 2004.
Throughout Jim's life he has been driven to achieve scholastically. At graduation from high school, he received a scholastic scholarship. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Accounting. He worked at Touché Ross Accounting firm where he was able to obtain his CPA. While working full time as CFO and later as general manager of Conaway Ranch and Water District No. 2035 in Woodland, he earned his MBA from UC Davis.
He continued his career in agricultural water two and a half years ago when he accepted the position as General Manager of Henry Miller Reclamation District, No. 2131, and San Luis Canal Company in Dos Palos. In this capacity he served as a director on the San Joaquin River Task Force, San Joaquin River Resource Management Coalition, and San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors, San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority. Jim helped shepherd the continued development of Reclamation District No. 2131 to assure its growth and progress. He had enormous vitality, energy and vision as they faced varied, complex political issues challenging the San Joaquin Valley agricultural farmlands. Jim was greatly admired by his Board of Directors, co-workers, landowners and constituents. He was dedicated to making sure that the farmers of his district had the necessary water and means to produce the best crops for this "bread basket" of California.
Jim has served as a leader in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and in his past community, Woodland, where he ran for city council and owned and operated a pumpkin patch with his wife Darla. He's worked with city, county and state officials and legislators many times for the benefit of his community and work related issues. He has been affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of CPAs. Jim has always loved nature and the great outdoors. His latest passion has been scuba diving where he has spent many happy hours in the waters off California and nearby islands where he has hunted a variety of fish and crustaceans and has developed a love of underwater photography.
Jim's most important priority was his family. He was a devoted and compassionate father, supporting his children emotionally in all of their extra-curricular activities. He loved attending their sports activities and fought for their victories. Jim loved his wife - they shared and lived their dreams together, never missing a day without the words spoken - I Love You. He was a loving friend to his father, mother and sisters.
Jim is survived by his wife, Darla, 38 and his children, Kaylan, 12, and Austin, 9 of Merced; his parents Fred J. and Mary G. Staker of Roseville; three sisters - Jessica Hackwell of Yuma, Ariz., Julia Fardos and Jennifer Pointer of Roseville.
A visitation has been scheduled for Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel, 1490 B St., Merced. Funeral services will be held in Merced at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1080 Yosemite Ave., Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. His interment will be Monday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Newcastle Cemetery, 850 Taylor Road, Newcastle.
