Nola Tadlock Van Lew
Nola Tadlock Van Lew died in Woodland Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at age 97.
Born May 9, 1905, in the Tadlock Ranch in Citrona, Mrs. Van Lew was the daughter of the late Alice Gray Collett and Rilford G. Tadlock. Her father was born in 1839, who was originally from Virginia later Kentucky. He with his mother and siblings crossed the plains in a covered wagon at the age of 18 settling in Yolo County. Her mother was born in Missouri in 1857 and came to California in one of the early trains prior to bridges and trestles being built.
She was a 1923 Esparto High School graduate. On New Year's Eve of 1923, she marriage Lester B. Van Lew whose family pioneered in the Knights Landing area. She spent most of her entire life in Esparto as a homemaker and as a salesperson in the hardware department at Wyatt's General Store. According to her family members, "she enjoyed gardening, reading and assisting her husband on their ranch. Visiting with old friends was a source of great pleasure. In 1988 she moved to Woodland where she spent the rest of her days at St. John's/Stollwood Convalescent Hospital.
Mrs. Van Lew is survived by her daughter, Betty Mae Haines of Woodland; nieces, Jacqueline Santana of Vacaville; and Lucille Schuler of Grass Valley; goddaughter and great-niece, Terry Tadlock Garcia and numerous other great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Capay Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be directed to St. John's, 135 Woodland Ave., Woodland, 95695; or to charity of donors choice.

VAN SICKLEN
James H. Van Sicklen
James Harrold Van Sicklen died Jan. 3, 2001, at the University Retirement Center in Davis. Born Aug. 3, 1917, in Oakland, he was 83.
He grew up in Oakland and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1939. During World War II he served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
In 1947, he marriage Winifred Tinning. They made their home in Orinda for 49 years. He worked for the Atkins Kroll Co. and the Milligan Spica-California Equipment Co. until his retirement in 1983. After retiring, he earned a certificate in landscape design and was a board member and docent at the UC Botanical Gardens.
He moved to Davis in 1997 and lived in Covell Gardens until spring of 2000.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred; his brother, William Parker Van Sicklen; and his sister, Maryann Sadler.
He is survived by his children, Susan Calfee and her husband, Kent of Davis, Isabel Van Sicklen of Modesto and James Van Sicklen Jr. of Stockton; and four grandchildren, Corinne and David Calfee and Andrew and Charles Van Sicklen.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 640 Hawthorn Lane. Memorial donations may be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95616, or to UC Botanical Gardens, 200 Centennial Drive, Berkeley, CA 94720.
James H. VAN SICKLEN (1917-2001) (memorial service)
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday for James Harrold Van Sicklen.
The service will be at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 640 Hawthorn Lane.

HARBIT
Bonnie J. Harbit
Bonnie J. Harbit died on July 2, 2002, in her Davis home. She was 72 years old.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1929, in Newark, Ohio, and graduated from Newark High School.
After her marriage to Keith B. Harbit, she lived in Philidelphia, Pa., for many years where she worked as a data processor for Smith, Klein and French Laboratories.
The couple moved to Davis in 1986, giving her an opportunity to attend UC Davis, where she earned her bachelor's degree in religious studies.
She was a longtime volunteer for the Yolo County Library and the STEAC food closet, as well as an active member of the Davis United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband; sisters Betty McLaughlin and Flora McCrillis of Newark, Ohio; and her brother, Robert Hafer, of Newark, Ohio.
A private burial will be held at the Davis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that donations be made in her name to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
HARDER
Victoria Mildred (Vannucci) Harder
Victoria Mildred (Vannucci) Harder died at Alderson Convalescent Hospital on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006 at age 87.
Mrs. Harder was born Nov. 6, 1918 in Capay to Etalo J. and Bianca R. (Giambastiani) Vannucci. She had been a Yolo County resident her entire life. She worked as a postmistress in the Capay Post office until 1940. Also, she was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, where she worked for 40 years as a caretaker of the residence of the priests.
Survivors include Mrs. Harder's son, Clifford Harder Jr. and his wife Jean of Woodland; her grandchildren, Stephen Harder, David Harder, Sarah Grisso and her husband Brandon, Aimee Harder and Bryan Harder, all of Woodland; Barry Harder and his wife Diana and Melissa Harder of Washington state; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Della Motroni of Woodland; her brother, Paul V. Vannucci and his wife Joy of Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Clifford H. Harder Sr.; her parents; three sisters; and one brother.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Harder's name be directed to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Building Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services: A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland with Father John Boll officiating. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
VAN ZEE
Barbara Jean Van Zee
Barbara Jean Van Zee died in Emmanuel Care Center, Yuba City Thursday, March 25, 2004, at age 69.
Born Jan. 20, 1935, and a native of Woodland, Mrs. Van Zee had been a Yuba-Sutter area resident for 38 years. She worked for Marysville plumbing as retail clerk for three years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Marysville.
Survivors include her daughter, Lori Edmonson of Oakley; sons, Jerry and Stanley Van Zee, both of Woodland; sister, Beverly Hart of Modesto; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be directed to American Cancer Society, 618 5th St., Marysville, 95901. Arrangements are under the direction of Lipp & Sullivan of Marysville.
Services: A chapel service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Lipp and Sullivan Chapel, Marysville, with Rev. Robert Copsey of St. Joseph's Church of Marysville officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland.
WALTER
Grace Clarke Kelly Walter
Grace Clarke Kelly Walter died in Williams Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at age 90.
Born March 27, 1912, and a native of Woodland, Mrs. Walter was the daughter of the late Foster Noble and Mattie Belle Clarke. She was the youngest of the three children. She attended the Eureka Elementary School, the Woodland Holy Rosary Academy, Pierce High School in College City. She was marriage to Harry Callahan Kelly and has two daughters. Her second marriage was to William Walter. According to her family members, "she loved her many friends locally and in Fort Bragg. Her favorite charities were the College City Cemetery Support Group; The Sacramento valley Museum and the Williams and Arbuckle Fire Departments."
She was the first girl baby born at the then new Woodland Clinic, when it was located at Third and Cross streets.
Mrs. Walter is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Ornbaun and Bev Cox; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Mae Clarke Dawley; and brother, Wilson J. Clarke.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at College City Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Arbuckle Fire Hall.
