Catherine M. Blizzard
Catherine M. Blizzard of Yuba City died March 15, 2001, at Fremont-Rideout Hospital. She was 87.
She was born in Chicago, Ill. She was a resident of Summerfield Assisted Living since 1998, after residing in Davis, where she was employed as a librarian with UC Davis from 1962 until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the Beta Phi Mu International Library Society.
During World War II, she served as a naval lieutenant in the armed forces and in 1978 she joined the Sacramento EX-Waves, where she enjoyed different offices of historian, secretary-treasurer for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Blizzard.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Alex Stelter of Santa Rosa; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friends Earl and Bridget Richey. Burial arrangements at sea are under the care of Neptune Society of Sacramento.
BLODGETT
William "Bill" Edward Blodgett
William "Bill" Edward Blodgett, a former Davis High English teacher, died unexpectedly on Aug. 12, 2004, of an aneurysm. He was 74.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1930, in Oak Park, Ill., and moved to California in 1956 after earning a master's degree at the University of Chicago and marrying.
He began teaching at Davis High in 1961 and retired in 1992.
Family members say many will remember his wry sense of amusement at human comedy and his generous nature.
He is survived by his wife Harriet Blodgett of Davis, his son Bruce Blodgett of Santa Cruz, grandsons Kevin and Kyle Blodgett, and brother Robert Blodgett of Northfield, Ill.
A memorial gathering and buffet is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Aug. 29 at the Veterans' Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St.
BLOOM
Richard Henry Bloom
Richard Henry Bloom died on Feb. 11, 1995, in Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 87 years old.
A native of Capay Valley, he was a farmer most of his life and he was very community-minded. He was a member and director of Capay Valley Farm Bureau and was the president and director of the Capay Valley Soil Conservation District for 14 years.
Bloom was a past master of Masonic Landmark-Buckeye Lodge no. 195 and received a 50-year pin. He was also constable of Guinda Township for 35 years and he worked with, and served as captain of the Capay Valley Fire Department for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha (Mar) Bloom of Brooks; his son, Richard N. Bloom and his wife Betty of Mendocino; his grandchildren, Richard (Mike) Bloom and his wife Debbie of Brooks, Erica Levings and her husband Steve of Carlin, NV, and Crystal Burton and her husband Ray of Esparto.
Bloom is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Allen Bloom, Adam Levings, and Katie and Shane Burton; his sister Mildred Little and her husband Larry of Belle Mead, NJ; his brother, C. Delmas Bloom and his wife Muriel of Fair Oaks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services are planned. Inurnment will be in the Capay Cemetery.

BLUETT
Thomas Gary Bluett
Davis native Thomas Gary Bluett died Jan. 17, 2004, in Hillsboro, Ore. He was 42.
Born July 12, 1961, in Sacramento, he grew up in Davis, attending St. James School, Holmes Junior High School and Davis High School.
He loved fishing, photography and playing guitar. He was a printer by trade, working for Times Litho in Forest Grove, Ore.
He is survived by his daughters, Erika and Ashley Bluett of Queensbury, N.Y.; parents, Gordon and Joy Bluett of Davis; brothers, Michael Bluett of Las Vegas, Nev., and Daniel Bluett of Davis; sisters, Kathryn Bluett of Sacramento and Diane Guilbault and her husband Jim of Antelope; nephews, Craig and Eric Bluett of Sparks, Nev., and Justin, Shawn and Brandon Guilbault of Antelope; niece, Madelyn Guilbault of Antelope; paternal grandmother, Florence Hagberg of Turlock; and special companion, Shirley Verhoef of Hillsboro.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Church, 1275 B St. in Davis.
The family requests that donations in his memory be sent to Washington County Hospice, 427 SE Eighth St., Hillsboro, OR 97123-4519, or to the American Cancer Society.
BLUM
Joseph R. Blum
Joseph R. Blum of Davis died suddenly on April 7, 2004, in Sacramento. He was 64.
Born Jan. 16, 1940, in Billings, Mont., he had a lifelong career working toward conservation of fish, wildlife and the environment. It was important to him that these resources be managed so his children, grandchildren and future generations could enjoy them, his family said.
"He has certainly left his mark and the world is a better place because he was here, " his family said.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, of Davis; son, Caleb Michael Blum and his wife, Monica, of Seattle; daughter, Michele Permenter and her husband, Don, of Davis; grandchildren Logan Joseph Permenter and Avery Permenter of Davis, and Caleb Blum of Seattle.
A memorial will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16 at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge in Washington. Family will be present beginning at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Friends of Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, 100 Round Farm Road, Olympia, WA 98516.
BEECHER
Marian I. Beecher
Marian Beecher died of congestive heart failure on Dec. 12, 1999. Born on Jan. 5, 1920, in Castor Center, Ontario, she was 79.
After spending most of her life on the East Coast, she moved to Davis in July to be close to family. She lived in Covell Gardens.
Marian was known to her family, friends and acquaintances for her sweet and cheerful demeanor.
Her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends will sorely miss her.
Survivors include her brother, Ross Johnson; her sister, Helen Marquart; her three children, Susan Sandoval, Ross Beecher and Douglas Beecher; her six grandchildren, Marian Sandoval, Marlene Cardinale, and Denise, Evan, Michael and Alex Beecher; and two great-grandchildren, Cody and Chelsea Jackson.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, in Sanborn, N.Y.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Daniel Irving Beeghly
Daniel Irving Beeghly passed away unexpectedly at his mother's home in Woodland, at the age of 61, on Aug. 22, 2004. He was born Sept. 6, 1942 to Irving and Rowena Stadtmuller Beeghly. A third generation Californian, he was the grandson of Daniel and Rowena Stadtmuller, and great-grandson of Albert Augustus Merritt and his wife Harriett Jane Bullard.
Upon graduation from Woodland High School in 1960, Dan entered UC Davis graduating with a degree in mathematics in 1964. He then earned a master's degree in mathematics at University of California at Berkeley. Dan marriage Pamela Schlocker of San Carlos in 1967 and together they moved to Dearborn, Mich. where he was employed by the Ford Motor Company, Computer Division for over 30 years. Dan retired in 1999 and has lived in Sacramento for the last two years. Dan was a kind and sensitive man who will be missed by all who knew him.
His wife Pamela, his mother Rowena, who is 96, his sister Barbara Reyn and brother-in-law William of Redwood City survive Dan. Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Woodland. Donations in Dan's memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity, the League to Save Lake Tahoe, St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Woodland or to a charity of the donor's choice.
