Kinuye Matsumoto
Kinuye Matsumoto of Woodland died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 at age of 90.
Mrs. Matsumoto was born May 15, 1915 in Stockton. She had been a resident of Woodland for 63 years.
Survivors include Mrs. Matsumoto's daughter, Mary Nakai and her husband Ken; her son, Arvin Matsumoto and his wife Terry; her daughter-in-law, Suzie Matsumoto; her granddaughters, Kathy and her husband Tad, Lynn and her husband Doug, Diane, Noreen and her husband Courtney, Julie and her husband Gavin.; her grandsons, Randy and his wife Michelle and Craig and his wife Deb; her great-grandchildren, Spencer, Briana, Romi, Aimee and Kelli; great-great-grandson Elijah; and her brothers, Katashi and Frank Nakayama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kikuichi; her newborn son, Tadashi; her son, Tom; and her sister, Midori Hagio.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Matsumoto's name may be made to the Buddhist Church of Sacramento, 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento 95814; Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617; or Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, 135 Woodland Ave., Woodland, 95695.
Services: Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10 at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento, 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
MATTA
Josephine Jaime Matta
Josephine Jaime Matta died Sunday, Feb. 20 at Alderson Convalescent Home at age 100.
Mrs. Matta was born Jan. 3, 1905 in Marfa, Texas to the late Regino and Andrea Jaime. She had been a Yolo County resident for 60 years. She was employed by Contadina for 20 years along with being a seamstress, cook and homemaker for 81 years.
Survivors include Mrs. Matta's daughters, Nellie Garcia, Elva "Vera" Gonzales and her husband Benny, Dorothy Bautista, all of Woodland, Lucy Lopez and her husband Raul of Avinal, Dina Leon and her husband Frank and Betty Matta all of Sacramento; her sons, Felix Matta Jr. of Upper Lake, Robert Matta and his wife Sue of Woodland and Amos Franco of Sacramento; her daughter-in-law, Trini Matta; her granddaughter, Patsy; 71 grandchildren; 136 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild and her sisters, Virginia O'Sullivan of Folsom, Lucy Medina of El Paso, Texas and Chelo Salgado of Marfa, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 1/2 years, Felix Matta Sr.; her daughters, Mary Galvan, Corina Matta and Lorena Garcia and her sons, Alex Matta, Benny Matta and Manuel Matta.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Matta's name be directed to the Red Cross of Yolo County, 120 Court St., Woodland 95695 for tsunami relief.
Services: A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 24 at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday, Feb. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland with interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. A reception to follow at Holy Rosary Parish Hall. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
MATTHEWS
Ilene Jeanette Means Matthews
Ilene Jeanette Means Matthews died at the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the age of 54. She was born in Alameda on April 13, 1947 to the late Lawrence and Zelda Means.
Mrs. Matthews was a resident of Dillon Beach for the past 14 years. She was a member of the Woodland High School Class of 1965 and received her Associate Arts degree from American River College. Mrs. Matthews was the assistant manager at the Faculty Club in Davis for eight years until 1988.
Mrs. Matthews and her husband moved to Dillon Beach in 1989 and she opened her own deli "Country Delight" in Tomales. Mrs. Matthews loved living at the beach according to her family. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by her husband of 21 years Thomas Matthews of Dillon Beach. Daughters, Tammy Guidi of Vacaville, Kerry Sherard and Melissa Guidi, both of Woodland. Grandchildren, Eric Pearson and Jayce Pearson both of Vacaville, Ryan Kuehnau, Alex Kuehnau, Dylan Pascual and Cody Montoya, all of Woodland and Courtney Pearson of Illinois. Sisters, Janene Ramos and Erin Means Reynoso, both of Winters. Brother Mike Means of Woodland. Nephew Jacob Means of Reno. Nieces, Jenny Rodriguez, Lisa Ruport, Ilene and Allie Reynoso all of Winters.
Visitation will be held at McNary's Chapel from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002 at McNary's Chapel.
Interment will follow the service at Monument Hill Memorial Park.
The family would prefer memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-1905 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

MATTOS
Paul Manuel Mattos
Paul Manuel Mattos died peacefully at his Davis home Oct. 6, 2004. He was 74.
Born in Sacramento on June 6, 1930, to Manuel and Rose Mattos, he was raised in Richmond where he met and marriage Darlene Clute in 1950.
In 1956, they moved to Davis where he worked as a bartender in his family's bar, The Club. He later moved to Winters where he lived for 20 years before returning to Davis. He worked at UC Davis in radiation safety for about 25 years, retiring in 1983.
He spent his retirement years tinkering in his garage, restoring antique cars and antique children's pedal cars.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Mattos, in September 1990. He was also preceded in death by his son and best friend, Robert Mattos, in December 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Darlene Mattos; his sons, Michael Mattos and his wife Jan, David Mattos and his wife Susan, Edward Mattos and James Mattos, all of Davis; daughter, Karen Mattos Long of Winters; and sister, Adeline Beesley of Richmond.
He is further survived by his grandchildren, Christina, Amanda, Angela, Jennifer, Stacy, Austin, Melissa, Kristen and Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler, Emmy, Joshua, Manuel.
At his request, there will be no services.
MAUL
Chester L. Maul
Chester Lloyd Maul died Nov. 23, 2000. Born Nov. 21, 1909, in Kansas City, Kan., he was 91.
He was a lifelong educator, world traveler, music lover, philosopher, political activist and veteran. He worked his way through William Jewell College and teaching college. After teaching elementary school in Kansas City and in Redlands, he earned a master's degree in psychology at Stanford University. He began work as an industrial psychologist but was called to war as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy.
After peace was declared, he marriage his sweetheart, Clella, and returned to California where he worked as a VA psychologist and college counselor and then continued his graduate work at Stanford. He served as director for testing and guidance in the San Mateo schools and taught psychology classes at the College of San Mateo.
He was an avid world traveler. His travels began when he left home during the Depression, riding the rails and looking west for work. He signed on a tramp steamer heading for Alaska. He explored Europe with his family for a year in 1961 when he coordinated testing and guidance in the Air Force schools.
He prided himself on having visited every continent - even Antarctica on a flight with Sir Edmund Hilary. In retirement he continued his adventures in many exotic locations including Bali, Nepal, Russia, Africa and China, right after it opened to public travel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clella Maul.
He is survived by his loving companion, Rahea Hirst of Davis; his two sons, Terry Maul of Riverside and David Maul and his wife Beverley of Davis; his three grandchildren, Brian Maul and his wife Jaime of Claremont, Corrine Maul of Davis and Andy Maul of Berkeley.
A private memorial service will be held Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Davis School Arts Foundation, music scholarship fund, PO Box 4093, Davis, CA 95617.
MAURER-WILLS
Elizabeth A. Maurer-Wills
Elizabeth A. Maurer-Wills died Jan. 31, 2005, at the University Retirement Community in Davis. She was 91.
Born Feb. 3, 1913, in Rock Stream, N.Y., she graduated from Watkins Glen High School in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Elmira Business College in Elmira, N.Y. She taught Sunday school for many years starting at the age of 12 at the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen, N.Y.
After her marriage to Dr. Frank W. Maurer on Dec. 31, 1936, they resided for the most part in Newton Highlands, Mass., where she was president of the Women's Association of the Newton Highlands Congregational Church. The Maurers moved to Pacific Palisades in 1961 where she volunteered to take calls for Hotline, a suicide crisis center, and was on the board of the YWCA in Los Angeles, working with housing for the Job Corps.
In 1978 she moved to Davis and became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis where she was an active member and was instrumental in arranging fund-raising concerts to help support Habitat for Humanity.
Her family says she enjoyed gardening, reading, visiting with her many friends and family, and playing the piano for residents of University Retirement Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank W. Maurer Sr. of Pacific Palisades, who died in December 1970; her son, John C. Maurer of Santa Monica; and her sister, Georgia Sanders of Ithaca, N.Y.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. J. Henry Wills of Davis; her son, Dr. Frank W. Maurer Jr. and his wife Professor Lenora Timm of Davis; her daughter, Susan M. Costley and her husband James Costley of Modesto; and her brother, William K. Mourey and his wife Emily of Watkins Glen N.Y.
She is further survived by her grandson, Pierre Maurer and his wife Tracy of Lagunitas; grandson Basil Maurer of Davis; and two-great grandsons, Chance and Jayden Maurer of Lagunitas.
A service will be announced at a later date.

MAURICE
Benjamin Ali Maurice
Benjamin Ali Maurice died at Sutter Davis Hospital Dec. 22, 2005. He was 64.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at the Davis Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 10, 1941, to Mauvo and Rozina (Talebi) Faki in Sudan. He was a student for the past 25 years, earning a master’s degree and doctorate from UC Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Coletta Maurice of Davis; daughters Rozina Maurice of Davis and Angela Maurice of Seattle; son Adrian Maurice of Davis; and sisters Jugba Maurice Faki and Suo Maurice Faki and brothers Tadebe Maurice Faki, Ba’ase Maurice Faki and Andrea Maurice Faki, all of Sudan.
