Merry Roselle Barnett
Merry Roselle Barnett, better known as Merry Grandma, died June 25, 2002, at Sierra Health Care with her family by her side. She was 93 years old.
She was born on Nov. 21, 1908, in Fresno. In 1978, she decided to move to Davis to take care of her first grandchild.
In April, she was diagnosed with Bile Duct Cancer. Until May 27, 2002, she remained living independently at her apartment. Thanks to Yolo Hospice and Sierra Health Care, she was able to remain comfortable throughout her last days.
She was a healthy, energetic and friendly woman who enjoyed walking every day and talking to all who lived in the community.
She absolutely loved to bake. There was never a day that she was not offering someone a fresh-baked cookie, a slice of her famous pumpkin pie or a loaf of her banana nut bread. Her baking was always from scratch and her special ingredient was her desire to make someone happy. She also enjoyed indoor plants, her favorite being the African violet. She was a member of the Violet Club of Davis and Woodland and won several awards for the violets she grew.
When she wasn't working on plants, she could be found taking care of her grandchildren. She was extremely involved in their lives.
She was a member of the Davis Rebecca's Lodge Saratoga Senior Center. Attending or watching church services was also a favorite weekly activity.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Corrigan and her husband Dan of Davis; her granddaughter, Angela Stevenson and her husband James of Davis; her grandson, D.J. Corrigan of Davis; her great-granddaughter, Alexis Stevenson of Davis and, of course, "Kitty, " her best friend the black cat.
The family invites anyone who would like to participate in the celebration of her life. The service will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1850 Hanover Drive, in the recreation room.
A private service will be July 27 at Saint Andrews Memorial Garden in Saratoga, where she will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Yolo County Hospice.
BARRETT
Hildred M. Barrett
Hildred M. Barrett died at West Sacramento Monday, March 24, 2003, at age 81.
Born April 18, 1921, in Oakhill, Kan., Mrs. Barrett had resided in West Sacramento for many years.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis Buchmiller, Beverly Lewin, Marsha McGuire, and Gary Barrett; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers.
The family requests memorials be directed to American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the direction of East Lawn Mortuary Sierra Hills.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 28, at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. There will be a services at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, also at East Lawn. Burial will follow the services.

Joaquin "Joe" Barrios
Joaquin "Joe" Barrios died at Rossmoor Care Center in Walnut Creek on Monday, March 27, 2006 at age 89.
Mr. Barrios was born March 20, 1917 in Madison to Vitaviano and Rose (Manjon) Barrios. He grew up in Madison.
He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1940 until his retirement in 1973.
At Mare Island, he worked in Shop 72 as a rigger, shop planner and equipment specialist.
Survivors include Mr. Barrios' daughter, Linda Walmer Riley and her husband Dan of Brentwood; his granddaughter, Charalynn Walmer Macedo and her husband Tony of Livermore; his grandson, Clark Walmer and his wife Jill of Brentwood; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Trini Steele of Daly City; and his brother, Fred Barrios of Vallejo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie O'Bryant Barrios.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Barrios' name be directed to the Northern California Alzheimer's Association, 530 Bercut Dr., Suite A, Sacramento, 95814.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland.
A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30 at Kraft Bros. Chapel, with Pastor Herb Pedigo officiating.
A private graveside committal will be scheduled at a later date. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.
BARRIOS
Louie Barrios
Louie Barrios passed away after a long illness at the age of 85.
Louie was born in Esparto June 21, 1919, the first day of summer.
He met his wife of 55 years, Martha "Dolly" at an outdoor dance in Madison.
He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for a short time, also for the Vallejo School District and retiring from the Greater Vallejo Recreation Department.
His hobbies and interests were gardening, baseball, fishing, hunting and camping.
Baseball was his favorite sport, playing first and third base on various teams.
He later went on to coach women's softball teams.
He was a big fan of the S.F. Giants.
He is survived by his children, Louie Jr. of Salinas, Leida of Vacaville, Ken of Roseville and Reno of Forestville. Brothers, Fred and Joe; sister, Trini. Including 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly; brothers, Gus and Tom and sister, Justa Lopez.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Feb. 12 at noon at Capay Cemetery in Esparto.
A gathering for friends and family will be held following the service at Community Hall in Esparto.
McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wayne Barrios, Sr.
Wayne Barrios Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Yolo, Ca. on Thursday, May 22, 2003, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Woodland, on June 4, 1942 to Tom and Connie (Espigares) Barrios, both of whom predecease him.
Wayne had been operating Barrios Farms, Inc. since his father's death, as a second-generation farmer. He enjoyed being around people whether it is family or friends. He will be remembered as a good-hearted person who had a love for cars and animals. Wayne lived everyday to the fullest, hardly ever getting out of the "fast lane." Many Woodlanders remember Wayne as "bringing the Christmas Spirit" to town each year with his marvelous and grandiose Christmas displays at his home on Monte Vista Drive, which was often the "talk of the town for weeks."
His sons, Wayne T. Barrios Jr. and wife Amy of Woodland, and Bryan Barrios and wife Julie of Sacramento, and his daughter Wendy Barrios of Central Pointe, Ore., survive Mr. Barrios. Grandchildren include Tom and Brigget Barrios of Sacramento, and Amanda and Kaylen Cox of Central Pointe, Ore. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins who were a big part of Wayne's life, and his 'shotgun' riding 'best friend' - "Teddy."
A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Mary's Cemetery, County Road 98 & 15, Woodland. Fr. John Boll of Holy Rosary Catholic Church will be officiating. No visitation is scheduled prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Barrios name be made to the Yolo County SPCA, P.O. Box 510, Davis, Ca., 95617; or Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, Ca. 95617.

BARROW
Elizabeth Nelson Barrow
Elizabeth Nelson Barrow of Davis died unexpectedly on May 29, 2002, in Davis. She was 75.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1926, in Artesia, N.M. After high school, she attended a secondary school for girls in Lubbock, Texas.
In 1944, she was crowned Miss Roswell in New Mexico. She also volunteered as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II.
Her interests included her family and her children. Her family has this personal message to impart: "In every heart she touched, in every life she changed, in every thought she inspired, her love lives on. Forever."
She is survived by her brother Renold Nelson of Davis; sister Marjorie Graham of Davis; her two sons Ronald Barrow of Rancho Murietta and Thomas Barrow of Santa Clara; and her two daughters Janice Roche of Sacramento and Elizabeth Sue McDermott of Davis.
She is also survived by grandchildren Brett and Shane Barrow, Jennifer Perkins, Edward and Alissa Bernacchi, and Tara and Michael McDermott. She is further survived by great-grandchildren Ian and Sophia Perkins, and James and Nathan Barrow.
An open casket viewing will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St., Davis. A graveside service will begin at noon Tuesday at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Road, Davis. Following this service will be a gathering for all at the Davis Community Church Fireside Room, 412 C St., Davis.

BARRY
Alexander Barry
Alexander Barry died peacefully in his home Feb. 18, 2005, from complications related to emphysema. He was 91.
Friends and family are invited to a reception at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Barry home, 924 Lake Blvd. in Davis.
Born on March 5, 1913, to Eugene and Rachael Barry in Ayer, Mass., he earned his bachelor's degree in 1934, master's degree in 1937, and doctorate degree in 1938, all from Harvard University.
In 1939, he marriage Kathleen Miller from Providence, R.I., and they moved to Ann Arbor, Mich. where he took a job as professor of anatomy at the University of Michigan. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served as a captain during World War II specializing in high-altitude training. After the war, he returned to the University of Michigan and later was appointed associate dean of the medical school there.
In 1968, he moved his family to Davis to serve as associate dean of student affairs at the UC Davis School of Medicine until his retirement in 1980.
His family described him as an avid fisherman and camper, traveling throughout the Western states for much of his retirement.
He was a prolific and creative woodcarver and was famous for his tall tales and gentle disposition.
He is survived by two children, Alexander E. Barry and his wife Linda of Neodesha, Kan.; and Jane B. Neilson and her husband Timothy of San Jose.
He is further survived by four grandchildren, Kathleen Gutierrez of San Jose; Mark Barry of Lawrence, Kan.; and Elizabeth Clerk and Matt Neilson of San Jose.
