Claudine Basinger
Claudine Basinger died on Oct. 26, 2005, at University Retirement Community in Davis. She was 70.
Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Davis Cemetery.
Born on Nov. 25, 1934, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Jack and Pairlee Seals, she moved with her family to California, settling first in Richmond, then in Sacramento where she graduated from Grant Union High School. She then moved with her family to Davis where she met and marriage Melvin Basinger.
She spent her working years in banking and as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed and was known for her beautiful handiwork and her love for cats. Through the years she spent many hours stitching beautiful wall hangings for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time fishing on the Sacramento River and Delta with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bertie Seals.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Melvin Basinger; her son, Richard W. Basinger; and two granddaughters, Amber and Krystle.
In addition to her immediate family, she will be greatly missed by her extended family and numerous friends in the area.
BASINGER
Elvin David Basinger
Elvin David Basinger passed away on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 in Davis at the age of 84. Born in Victorville on Nov. 17, 1920, he was one of 12 children born to Sylvester David and Emma Basinger. He has been a resident of Davis, Winters, and Esparto for the past 58 years and retired from the Pacific Gas and Electric company following 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Verna, who died in 1995. He is survived by his children and their spouses James and Janice Basinger of Gabbs, Nevada, Mary (Midge) Holmes of Elk Grove, and David and Lynda Basinger of Denham Springs, Louisiana; his brother and sister-in-law Charles and Joanne Basinger of Fairfield; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A visitation was held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 4-8 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Davis. A funeral service was held at the Davis Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, followed by interment at the Winters Cemetery.
BASS
Hugh L. "Sam" Bass, Jr.
Hugh L. "Sam" Bass Jr. of Belmont, Nev. died in Reno, Nev. Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at age 60.
Mr. Bass was born Nov. 26, 1944 in Turlock. He had been a Yolo County resident for 10 years. He graduated from Roseville High School in 1962, and later served two years in the U.S. Army. He worked as an installer for 41 years with Lucent Technologies (Western Electric). He was a member of Landmark-Buckeye Masonic Lodge, Esparto Grafton Chapter OES and many other Masonic affiliated groups. He was also a member of Snowshoe Thompson Chapter ECV.
Survivors include Mr. Bass' wife of 11 years, Jann; his daughters, Julie of Enterprise, Ala., Kris of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Erinn and Sami of Elk Grove; his stepchildren, Randi of Hawthorne and Thomas of San Diego; his grandchildren, Brianne, Brittany, Dylan, Phillip, Caitlin, Jalena and Megan; his sister, Kathleen (Gidget) Harlow of Keno, Ore.; and his brother, Roger Bass of Citrus Heights. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Wanita Bass and his sister, Sharon Bass.
The family requests that memorials in Mr. Bass' name be directed to the Nevada State Railroad Museum or the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD).
Services: A celebration of life was held in Belmont, Nev. on Sept. 1, 2005. A memorial will be held in Esparto at the Countryside Community Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, officiated by the Rev. Pamela Anderson. His ashes will be scattered in Belmont, Nev. Truckee Meadows Mortuary of Reno, Nev. is assisting the family with arrangements.
BASSETT
Barbara Elaine Phelps Bassett (1st of 2 obituaries)
Barbara Elaine Phelps Bassett died at her home in Woodland on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at age 77.
Mrs. Bassett was born Feb. 18, 1929 in Warsaw, Ind. She had been a Yolo County resident for 28 years. She graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Ind. For 25 years, she worked as a real estate broker.
Survivors include Mrs. Bassett's sons, Randy, Craig and Terry, all of Woodland; and her grandchildren, Brian, Casey, Michael, Stephen and Shannon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lester Bassett; her son, Kelan Bassett; her parents, Devon and Dorothy Phelps; and her brother, Richard Phelps.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Bassett's name be directed to Yolo Wayfarer Center, 201 Fourth St., Woodland, 95695.
Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 7 at Woodland Cemetery, 800 West St., Woodland. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Barbara Elaine Phelps Bassett (2nd of 2 obits.)
Barbara Elaine Phelps Bassett, 77, passed away at home, with her loving family beside her, on March 28, 2006, after a courageous and painful battle with cancer. Born Feb. 18, 1929 in Warsaw, Ind., and spending much of her childhood in North Webster, Ind., Barbara went to James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Ind. She marriage Lester Bassett on New Year's Eve, 1947. Barbara and Lester were blessed with four marvelous sons. They moved to Santa Clara in 1962 and made their home in Woodland in 1978.
For 18 years, Barbara and Lester lovingly took care of their third born, Kelan, who passed away in January 1998. Then Lester became ill and Barbara faithfully cared for him over the next 4 1/2 years. In all, Barbara spent the last 22 1/2 years of her life lovingly caring for her family. Barbara held a real estate broker's license and took pride in her writings and paintings. She had an affinity of taking care of disadvantaged people, and was known to anonymously donate blankets, food coupons and gift bags directly to the homeless.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Devon and Dorothy Phelps, from North Webster, Ind., by her brother, Richard Phelps also of North Webster, and by her son, Kelan. She is survived by three sons and their wives: Randy and Debbie Bassett, Craig and Norma Bassett and Terry and Kathleen Bassett; plus five grandchildren including Brian Bassett ( marriage to Kim) of Sacramento, Casey Shipman of Pioneer, Michael and Stephen Bassett of Woodland and Shannon Cox of Woodland. She is also survived by Lee Lowe, her faithful friend and attendant; Patricia Bassett, sister-in-law; and nephews Dean and David Bassett.
Barbara loved nature. Raccoons, birds, otters and other creatures of God were drawn toward her. She once took in an injured bird that was so drawn to her that it would fly in the wilds and then return to her, forcing her to nail a tree branch onto her living room wall. She always saw the good in people and went of her way to help a person in need.
The Bassett family asks that donations be made to the Yolo Wayfarer Center in Barbara's memory.

BATCHELOR
Thelma M. Batchelor
Thelma Morrow Batchelor died Oct. 14, 2002, after a two-week hospitalization following a series of severe strokes. She was 73 years old.
Born Oct. 4, 1929 in Santa Monica to Arthur and Genevieve Morrow, she later graduated from Venice High School in 1947.
She proudly worked for the Rocketdyne division of Rockwell International for more than 30 years as an electrical assembly supervisor and data analysis technician. She marriage Donald Batchelor in 1948 and raised two children, Ann and Mark.
She was a kind and generous mother, wife, friend, sister, aunt, co-worker and neighbor. She supported Donald in his career as a teacher and principal in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. After Donald's death in 1993, she moved to Sedona, Ariz., and later Davis, to be an involved, loving grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Hudak and her husband Werner, and granddaughter Ingrid Hudak, all of Richland, Wis.; her son, Mark Batchelor and his wife Sandy, and grandchildren Lily and Jake Batchelor, all of Davis; and her sister, June Pritchard and her husband William of Westlake Village.
A memorial/celebration of her life and a gathering of loved ones will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. at Hyatt Westlake Plaza Bella Terraza Garden Patio, 880 S. Westlake Blvd. in Westlake Village.

Joyce Ann Bates
Joyce Ann Bates died in Woodland Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at age 68.
Mrs. Bates was born Dec. 1, 1936 in Colusa. She had been a Yolo County resident for 50 years.
Survivors include Mrs. Bates' children, Chuck Elkins of Woodland, Cindy Rohl of Montague, Julie Elkins of Marysville and Stephanie Varadi of Beaverton, Ore.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Ruth Walker of Woodland and her brother, James Walker of Woodland.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Bates' name be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617. Services: An open house to celebrate Joyce's life is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 at 1 West Beamer St., Woodland. Interment will be private at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland. ANCHONDO
Asuncion M. Anchondo
Asuncion Morales Anchondo died on Dec. 13, 1999, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. Born on May 13, 1920, in El Paso, Texas, 79.
Anchondo has been a resident of Yolo County for the past 55 years. She worked at Contadina for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Armando Vasquez Anchondo; son, Jesse ``Chewy' Anchondo; and granddaughter, Theresa Elaine Anchondo.
She is survived by her three sons, Jose Armando Anchondo of Woodland, Tony Anchando of Sacramento and his wife Irene, and Art Anchondo of Woodland; two daughters, Carmen Bally of El Sobrante and her husband Edmund, and Dolores Tafoya of Yolo and her husband Edward; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Lucio Morales of Portland, Ore.
Friends are invited to attend a vigil service Thursday at 7 p.m. at McNary's Chapel in Woodland. A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
