Maybelle Stallings Harris
Maybelle Stallings Harris died at Alderson Convalescent Hospital in Woodland Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at age 84.
Mrs. Harris was born May 2, 1920 in Parma, Mo. to the late James and Annie Stallings Meeks and been a Yolo County resident for 10 years. She worked for the Milk Farm Restaurant and later as a clerk at the Dixon 5 & 10 variety store. She and her husband Johnnie were foster parents from 1961 to 1976, helping 68 children.
Survivors include Mrs. Harris' daughter, Shirley Minosh of Woodland, son Marvin Harris of Phoenix, grandchildren Michelle Minosh of Woodland, Julie Rohrer of Phoenix, Christy Hornbeck and her husband Todd of Bend, Ore. and John Harris and his wife Katalee of Payson, Ariz. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Nathan, Matthew, Rachel and Andrew Harris all of Payson, Ariz.; Austin and Kate Lynn Rohrer of Phoenix and Anna Hornbeck of Bend, Ore., brother-in-law Orville Seegraves of Winters and numerous nieces, nephews and foster children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Harris, brothers Paul, Everett, Ples "Mike" Stallings, and sister Gaynelle Stallings Sobba.
Memorials in Mrs. Harris' name may be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 at Woodland Christian Center, 441 California St., Woodland. McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
HARRIS
Robert Floyd Harris
Robert Floyd Harris, a long time resident of Santa Barbara and prominent Southern California attorney, died on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at age 60.
Born July 24, 1942, and a native of Woodland, Mr. Harris grew up in Knights Landing, and was an active member of both the Boy Scouts of America and the Methodist Youth Fellowship. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1959 and completed his undergraduate education at UC Davis. In 1968 he received a law degree from UC Los Angeles. After attending Officer Candidate School in Baltimore, Md., and the Army Language School in Monterey, he served as captain with the Military Intelligence Service of the United States Army in Korea.
Mr. Harris began his practice of law in Santa Barbara with the firm of Archbald & Spray in 1972. In 1983 he co-founded the firm now known as Bauer, Harris, Clinkenbeard and Ramsey. He was an active member of both the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (Board of directors 1985-1990, 1995-2000) and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
He marriage Susan Jean Cambridge of Strongsville, Ohio in 1972. Together, they raised their children in Santa Barbara. With a passionate interest for nature and wilderness conservation, he was active with Ducks Unlimited and Earthwatch. According to his family members, "he enjoyed backpacking, camping, fishing and hunting. He participated with his son, in a mountain lion conservation/research project in Southern Idaho for two winters. Both his children often joined him on backpacking trips through the Beartooth Ranges of Montana and Wyoming. His special interest was Yosemite where he enjoyed many summers with his family since early childhood."
He is survived by his wife, Susan Harris; children, Matthew and Elizabeth; sister, Sharon Harris Cramer of Roseville; brother, William B. Harris of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces and nephews and many cousins.
A memorial service was held in the Sunken Gardens of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse followed by a church service at Monticito Covenant Church.
HARRIS
Sylvia J. Harris
Sylvia Jean Harris, a 44-year resident of Davis, died Feb. 19, 2001, in Davis. She was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Oakland to Harry and Sylvia Hazel Sale. She was 84.
She graduated from Berkeley High School in 1935 and met her husband, Charles, when she was a "soda jerk" in an Owl Drugstore. They were marriage in June 1939. While her husband was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, she worked at the Alameda Naval Air Station.
In Davis, she was a homemaker, but spent numerous hours helping with PTA, school activities and Eastern Star. She was a den mother and an adviser for Rainbow Girls.
She was preceded in death by her son Edward and brother Bill Sale.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; daughter, Sandra and her husband Mike; grandchildren, Michele, Scott, Shannon and Marnie Horn of Truckee; daughter-in-law, Mary Harris of Sacramento; two brothers, Harry Sale and his wife Lena of Richmond, and Edward Sale and his wife Virginia of Pennsylvania; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and an extended family in Atwater.
She was known as the "cookie lady" of 12th Street.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Club Room at the Veterans' Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St. in Davis.

HARRIS Jr.
William J. Harris Jr.
William "Bill" Jodie Harris Jr. of Ocean View, Hawaii, died after a lengthy illness on June 7, 2002, in Stockton. He was 79.
He was born on July 4, 1922, in Mayfield, Ky. After serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, he moved to Davis, and it was here that he chose to settle and raise his family. Upon retiring in 1986, he made Ocean View his home.
He started out in the Davis and Sacramento areas working as a carpenter on projects such as the University Avenue Apartments and Cruess Hall on the UC Davis campus.
He then acquired his general contractor's license and began building custom homes, known as "Harris Built Homes." Many of these homes and duplexes are around the north-central part of Davis.
He then went to work for the state as a building inspector. It was in this capacity that he oversaw the construction on Davis High School, Holmes and Emerson junior high schools, and North Davis, Birch Lane and Pioneer elementary schools.
As the building of schools in the area slowed down in the mid-'70s, he went to work for Davis Joint Unified School District as director of maintenance, grounds and transportation.
Upon his retirement in 1986, he moved to the Big Island of Hawaii and lived in his motor home while he fulfilled a lifelong dream of designing and building his own home in paradise. It was here that he lived until last July, when he returned to California due to health problems.
During his time in Davis, he served as both an elder and a deacon at Davis Community Church, where he was active in Mariner's Groups and helped lead youth groups. He was also active in Lions Club, Paws and Taws Square Dancing Club and the Deep See'rs SCUBA Dive Club.
He participated in Scouting and 4-H groups with his children. Some of his happy memories included kite-flying, camping, fishing, sailing, backpacking, water skiing and cross-country skiing with his family and friends.
After moving to Hawaii, he was a member of the Ocean View Community Church. He traveled to foreign places such as Japan, Russia, China, Hong Kong and Norway, and usually took in a Lion's Club Convention while he was there. He also traveled with the American Red Cross to help out with disaster relief. During his time in Hawaii, he spent many happy hours playing pool and other games with his friends at the senior center there.
He will be missed by his survivors, including his wife, Virginia "Ginger" of Ocean View; son, James of Davis and his wife Virginia; daughter, Marti Fredericks and her husband Craig of Stockton; daughter, Mary Kay Pray and her husband Billy of Alturas; stepson, Bruce Wilson of Chicago; stepdaughter, Marta Sykes and her husband Ned of Sacramento; and grandchildren, Mark Adkins of San Lorenzo, Stephanie Harris of Santa Barbara, Michael Harris of Chico, Courtney Miller and Jodie Fredericks of Stockton, and Jason and Sheila Pray of Alturas.
He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Davis Community Church, 412 C St.
HARRIS Sr.
Melvin L. Harris Sr.
Melvin Lewis Harris Sr. died on Dec. 10, 1999, at his Woodland residence. Born on March 13, 1938, in Arkansas, he was 61.
He was a Yolo County resident for 53 years.
He is survived by his son, Melvin L. Harris Jr. of Moss Landing; granddaughter, Melissa Harris of Sacramento; two brothers, Gaines and Bob Harris, both of Woodland; sister, Gladys French of Woodland; seven nieces and two nephews, Debbie Yeager, Tom French and Robert Harris Jr., all of Woodland, Nadina French of Napa, Patricia Marocchi of Rome, N.Y., Theresa Lozier of Chico, and Wanda Ellen, Claudia Berson and Debbie Berson, all of Arkansas; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service Thursday at 3 p.m. at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland.

HARRISON
David Andrew Harrison
David Andrew Harrison died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at age 64.
Born Dec. 22, 1937, in Woodland, Mr. Harrison was the son of Eleta Harrison Burr of Woodland and the late Richard Wayde Harrison of Woodland. He lived in Woodland all his life. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1956. After high school he worked for PG&E and later became a plumber. He was a plumber for 30 years and owned and operated Harrison Plumbing. He later worked at UCD Physical Plant until back surgery forced him into early retirement. He was a member of Plumber's Local 447, Woodland BPOE No. 1299, Carlton Club, Downieville Chapter of E Clampus Vitus, and the Woodland Methodist Church. His greatest enjoyment was his family. He was loved by many.
Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Lois Harrison; daughter, Paula Wolfe and husband Jeremy and granddaughter, Catherine Wolfe of Larkspur; daughter, Erin Harrison of San Diego and daughter, Jennifer Harrison of Woodland.
He is also survived by his mother, Eleta Harrison Burr; brothers, Richard Harrison and wife Lucy and Ronald Harrison and wife Janet; and sister, Janet Stanley, all of Woodland. Also survived by his wife's children, Michael and Robert Cristler, Hattie and Joe Souza, Joseph and Becki Cristler, Tony Cristler, Annie and Richard Doyle and his wife's eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. Services to be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at the Woodland Methodist Church, corner of North and Second streets.
The family requests memorials be directed to charity of the donor's choice.

HARRISON
Janet Marlynn Harrison
Janet Marlynn Harrison died in the Woodland Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at age 54.
Born July 1, 1948, in Paso Robles, Mrs. Harrison was a Yolo County resident for the past 37 years.
She worked at the Woodland Clinic for 18 years as a receptionist.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She was an avid reader and loved to sew and garden.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Harrison of Woodland; children, Barbra Sosa and husband, Ramon, of Woodland, and Jason Harrison and wife, Christine, of Oregon; grandchildren, Samantha, Alexis, Hayley Garcia and Jonathan Mijares, all of Woodland, and Charlene Harrison of Oregon.
Other survivors include her father, Joseph Lewey; brother, Doug Lewey and wife, Chris, of Zamora; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her mother, Barbra Lewey.
A memorial mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Holy Rosary Church in Woodland.
The family would prefer memorials be directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
